The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of shoe weight on cardiorespiratory response and energy economy to walking exercise with added shoe weight, and to verify the shoe weight and walking economy. Subjects were composed of eight middle-aged women and performed 3 day a week, during 8weeks, and on an average 30 minute a day. The findings of this study were as follows. 1. V˙O₂ and V˙O₂/kg were significantly increased 300㎖/min(η²=27.9. p<.05) and /kg/min(η² =40.7%, p<.01) respectively. HR was significantly increased 14beats(η²=14.9%, p<.01) and energy expenditure were significantly increased 2Cal/min(η²=51.9%, p<.0l) and 130Cal/h(η²= 53.3%, p<.001) respectively. This results suggest that there are influenced by diet shoe(1200g) than common shoe(400g) in the increase of energy expenditure as well as the increase of cardiorespiratory function and confirmed the previous studies that additional body weight affects cardiorespiratory function and energy expenditure. Especially, shoe weight as additional weight method is easy to use and is things necessary for daily life. Therefore it may be useful for the people who can't take exercise because of lack of exercise time and place.
