        위장관 간질종양의 임상 및 병리학적 고찰

        Background & Aims: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) constitutes primary nonepithelial neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract and includes most tumors previously designated as leiomyomas/leiomyosarcomas. GIST is pathologically divided into benign, borderline and malignanct tumor. This study was carried out to delineate the clinical and pathologic features of GIST and to establish the features predicting malignancy. Methods: Clinicopathologic data of 84 patients who had GIST from 1995 to 1999 were reviewed. Results: The subjects were 42 men and 42 women, and their mean age was 59.3±13.2 years. We located fifty-two tumors in the stomach, 28 tumors in the small intestine and 4 tumors in the colorectum years. Histopathology revealed benign tumors in 23 of the 84 patients, borderline tumors in 22, malignant tumors in 39. The average size of tumors was 6.23 cm in diameter (range, 0.6-26 cm). Metastasis was noted in 15.5% of the patients at diagnosis. On endoscopy, ulceration was more common in malignancy. Endsonographic findings except size were not significant statistically. On contrast enhanced computed tomography, malignancy showed more irregular shape and variable attenuation than benign lesions, which seemed to be valuable factor. Conclusions: The variables predicting malignancy were large tumor size (≥5 cm), location of the colorectum, palpable abdominal mass, ulceration on endoscopy, and less uniformity in shape and variable attenuation on computed tomography.

        Molecular analysis of TMC1 gene in the Korean patients with nonsyndromic hearing loss

        Hereditary nonsyndromic hearing loss (NSHL) is a highly heterogeneous disorder in humans. Mutations of the transmembrane channel‐like (TMC1) gene have been identified as the genetic cause for both autosomal recessive (DFNB7/11)and autosomal dominant (DFNA36) nonsyndromic hearing loss. To evaluate the spectrum and frequency of mutation(s)caused by TMC1 gene in the Korean population, we have performed sequencing analysis of the PCR products amplified from genomic DNA of each proband in 193 unrelated families showing 30 autosomal dominant and 163 autosomal recessive inheritance patterns. As a result, we identified eight different novel sequence variations for the first time in this study,respectively. However, none of these showed co‐segregation of phenotype in the families. Therefore, our study suggests that the TMC1 gene is not the cause of nonsyndromic hearing loss in the Korean population.

        새만금 간척지 첨단온실 에너지 설계를 위한 풍환경 및 온실 피복재의 영향 분석

        본 연구에서는 새만금과 같은 간척지를 활용하여 대규모 첨단온실단지를 조성하는 경우 간척지의 환경적 특수성 중 높은 풍속에 따른 유리 단열재의 에너지 효율을 평가하였다. 현장에서 주로 사용되는 온실 단열재 중 4가지에 대한 평가 결과, 최대 37.4%의 에너지 차이를 보여, 온실 피복재의 선정이 중요함을 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 일반적인 내륙에서의 온실을 설계하는 것과 달리, 간척지에서는 내재해성 온실규격을 따라 시설을 설계하여야 하며, 에너지 소비량은 높아진 풍속과 재질을 고려하여 산정되어야 한다. 본 연구의 결과는 에너지 효율성을 온실 피복재의 종류와 풍속에 따라서 제시하고 있으며, 이는 대규모 첨단온실 조성 시 에너지 소비량을 예측하고, 이를 바탕으로 신재생에너지원을 포함하는 에너지 설계에 활용될 수 있다. The external weather conditions including temperature and wind speed in the Saemangeum reclaimed land is different from that of the inland, affecting the internal environment of the greenhouse. Therefore, it is important to select an appropriate covering material considering the insulation effect according to the type and characteristics of the covering material considering the weather condition in the Saemangeum reclaimed land. A hexahedral insulation chamber was designed to evaluate the insulation efficiency of each glass-clad material in the outside weather condition in reclaimed land. In order to evaluate the insulation effect of each covering material, a radiator was installed and real-time power consumption was monitored. 16-mm PC (polycarbonate), 16-mm PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), 4-mm greenhouse glass, and 16-mm double-layered glass were used as the covering materials of the chamber. In order to understand the effect of the external wind directions, the windward and downwind insulation properties were evaluated. As a result of comparing the thermal insulation effect of each greenhouse cover material to single-layer glass, the thermal insulation effect of double-layer glass was 16.9% higher, while PMMA and PC were 62.5% and 131.2% higher respectively. On average the wind speed on the windward side was 53.1% higher than that on the lee-wind side, and the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the chamber at the wind ward side was found to be 52.0% larger than that on the lee ward side. During the experiment period, the overall heating operation time for PC was 39.2% lower compared to other insulation materials. Showing highest energy efficiency, and compared to PC, single-layer glass power consumption was 37.4% higher.

        Validation of the oxford classification of iga nephropathy: A Single-Center Study in Korean Adults

        Background/Aims: The recently published Oxford classification of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) proposed a split system for histological grading, based on prognostic pathological features. This new classification system must be validated in a variety of cohorts. We investigated whether these pathological features were applicable to an adult Korean population. Methods: In total, 69 adult Korean patients with IgAN were analyzed using the Oxford classification system at Soonchunhyang University Hospital, Seoul, Korea. All cases were categorized according to Lee`s classification. Renal biopsies from all patients were scored by a pathologist who was blinded to the clinical data for pathological variables. Inclusion criteria were age greater than 18 years and at least 36 months of follow-up. We excluded cases with secondary IgAN, diabetic nephropathy combined other glomerulopathies, less than 36 months of follow-up, and those that progressed rapidly. Results: The median age of the patients was 34 years (range, 27 to 45). Mean arterial blood pressure was 97 ± 10 mmHg at the time of biopsy. The median follow-up period was 85 months (range, 60 to 114). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed significant prognostic predictions for M, E, and T lesions. A Cox proportional hazard regression analysis also revealed prognostic predictions for E and T lesions. Conclusions: Using the Oxford classification in IgAN, E, and T lesions predicted renal outcome in Korean adults after taking clinical variables into account.

        판상형 충전제의 함량과 배향에 따른 PP복합체의 열팽창계수 영향 연구

        두 가지의 종횡비(ρα=a1/a3 and ρβ=a1/a2)에 의해 특징지어진 3차원 타원체(a1 > a2 > a3)를 사용하여 polypropylene 복합체의 판상형 충전제 함량과 방향이 열팽창률에 미치는 영향에 대해 실험적인 연구를 수행하였다. 측정된 실험적인 값은 Lee와 그의 연구자들이 제안한 이론적인 모델에 의한 계산 값과 비교분석되었다. 판상형충전제로는 운모와 탈크가 사용되었다. 실험 결과로 운모의 경우 종횡비는 ρα= 13.5, ρβ= 1.8이 사용되 어, 20 wt% 함량일때 α11/αm는 약 0.56으로 감소하였으나, α33/αm는 오히려 1.018로 증가함을 보였다. 탈크의 경우의 종횡비는 ρα=3.7, ρβ= 1.4이었고 α11/αm는 0.63으로 감소하였다. 결국 운모와 탈크 모두 그 함량증가에 따라 종단방향과 횡단방향에서 열팽창률은 감소하였으나 수직방향에서는 초기 낮은 충전제 함량에서는 오히려 증가하는 경향을 보였다. Experimental study was performed regarding the effects of disc-like filler orientation and contents on the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of polypropylene composites using the three dimensional ellipsoids (a1 > a2 > a3) analyzed by two aspect ratios(ρα=a1/a3 and ρβ=a1/a2). Measured data were compared with the theoretical approaches proposed by Lee et al. Mica and talc were useed as disk-like fillers in the composites. As experimental results, α11/αm decreased down to ca. 0.56 with mica content of 20 wt% and the aspect ratios, ρα=13.5, ρβ=1.8. However, α33/αm increased to more than 1. In the case of talc, α11/αm decreased to ca. 0.63 with 20 wt% and ρα=3.7, ρβ=1.4. Finally, the longitudinal CTEs (α11) of polypropylene composites decreased as filler contents increased, but normal CTE (α33) increased in the low filler contents like the theory.

      • Novel Methylation Biomarker for Non-invasive Diagnostics in Lung Cancer

        To identify aberrantly hypermethylated DNA in lung cancer cells we established a genome-wide analysis for hypermethylation sites, namely Methyl DNA Isolation and Amplification (MeDIA) coupled-CpG microarray analysis. In the comprehensive methyaltion profiling analysis between human lung cancer, A549 cells and normal NHBE cells, we observed that several clusters of genes show a significant level of aberrancy in CpG island methylation pattern in cancer cells compared to normal cells. We further identified PCDHGA12 gene as a new marker of non-invasive diagnostics for lung cancer based on followings. 1) Transcription of PCDHGA12 gene is reactivated after treatment of A549 cells with demethylating agent. 2) Bisulfide clonal-sequencing reveals that CpG island of PCDHGA12 shows a distinctive differential methylation between two cell lines. 3) Pyrosequencing-based quantitative methylation assay for such region in tumor and non-tumorous tissues from lung cancer patients shows aberrant hypermethylation in 37 (92%) of the 40 tumor tissues. In clinical validation by pyrosequencingin induced-sputum of lung cancer patients (n=87) and healthy controls (n=51), we observed aberrant hypermethylation incident at significantly elevated level in samples derived from lung cancer patients. According to the optimal threshold calculated by ROC curve analysis, sensitivity and specificity of PCDHGA12 was 86.2% and 82.4%, respectively. PCDHGA12 methylation status could be a potential methylation biomarker alone or combined with others for the screen and the detection of relapse of lung cancer.

        Effect of Directors’ Transactional/Transformational Leadership and Organizational Culture on Kindergartens’ Cultural Competences

        This study examines the effects of directors` leadership and organizational culture on teachers` perceptions of kindergartens` cultural competences. The study`s participants included 162 early childhood teachers who responded to the Multiple Leadership Questionnaire and the Principals` Transformational Leadership Questionnaire, which were both developed by Bass and later revised by Hwang. Song`s Organizational Culture scale was used to measure cultural competence, and Chung and Lee`s Cultural Competence of Early Childhood Institution scale was used to assess the level of cultural competence among early childhood institutions specifically. The collected data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient, hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. The results revealed meaningful statistical correlations between directors` transactional/ transformational leadership, kindergartens` organizational cultures, and kindergartens` cultural competences. Furthermore, analysis of the influence of independent variables such as directors` transactional/transformational leadership and organizational culture on kindergartens` cultural competences produced an explanation power of 41.3%.
