The purpose of this case study is to present a case of oculolmotor nerve palsy due to midbrain infarction improved by acupuncture and herb medicine. Oculomotor nerve palsy is a disorder associated with dysfunction in the third cranial nerve, which causes eye movement disorder, diplopia and ptosis. The patient, who was diagnosed with Benedikt's Syndrome(Red Nucleus Syndrome), was given oriental medical treatment. Benetikt's Syndrome has the various symptoms of weakness on one side(contralateral) and eye movement disorder, ptosis, diplopia(ipsilateral) etc., but research on Benetikt's Syndrome or midbrain infarction is scant. Results of this study suggest a role for conservative therapy with herb medicine and acupuncture to treat oculomotor nerve palsy(eye movement disorder, ptosis, diplopia, etc., ipsilateral) and right motor weakness(contralateral) due to midbrain infarction. Further research into oriental medical treatment for such disorders will be forthcoming.

Although only a small portion of patients with hypertension have renal hypertension, studies regarding renal hypertension may provide insight into the pathophysiology of essential hypertension. An increased vascular reactivity to vasoconstrictor substances has been observed both in clinical hypertension and in animal models of hypertension. This study was designed to evaluate the contractile and relaxing responses of the contralateral renal artery in renovascular hypertension and to provide an explanation of one of the mechanisms of renovascular hypertension. Methods : In the first experiment, an experimental renovascular hypertension model was established by clipping the left renal artery of Sprague-Dawley rats. These rats were then divided into two groups of which one was given enalapril during one week post-operation before being terminated. Ring preparations of the contralateral side of the renal artery were obtained one week after the operation. The contraction of renal artery strips were induced by high potassium or norepinephrine, and the relaxation of them were produced by acetylcholine or sodium nitroprusside. The contractile and relaxing responses were recorded and compared with the data obtained from control group. In the second experiment, the rats received angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, 5mg percent enalapril in the drinking water for 7 days after induction of renal artery stenosis operation. Then, the contractile and relaxing responses were evaluated by the same method as control group. Results : 1) The contralateral renal artery of renovascular hypertensive rats showed significantly increased contractile responses to the high potassium or norepinephrine as compared with that of control group (P<0.05). 2) Increased contractile reponses of the renal artery to the high potassium or norepinephrine were normalized to the control group level when enalapril was given. 3) The relaxing responses by acetylcholine were reduced on the contralateral renal artery in renovascular hypertensive rats as compared with that of the control group. However, no remarkable differences were noted between them with the sodium nitroprusside. 4) There were no significant differences in the acetylcholine or nitroprusside induced vasodilation response between enalapril-given renovascular hypertensive rats and control rats. Conclusion : These results suggest that endothelial dysfunctions may lead to renal hypertension and that enalapril(ACE inhibitor) may prevent the development of renal hypertension by maintaining endothelial function. 한국인에서 피부생물공학적 측정기법을 이용한 피부자극반응의 표준화에 대한 연구

N/A Background : It is believed that certain skin types of different age, ethnic group may be more susceptible to the effect of skin irritants than others. However, some previous studies found controversies among intra-, inter-individual variation along with the possibility of ethnic differences in irritation reaction. Objective : Thus, it is mandatory to explore the characteristics of irritant skin reaction in young and old Koreans with objective, standardized instrumental measurement techniques. Method : We have investigated the patterns of skin irritation between adolescent group (19 persons, average age 21.3 ± 2.3) and old group (18 persons, average age 61.0 ± 3.6) after physicochemical stimuli by using tape strippings (15, 30 times) and 24 hours SLS (sodium rauryl sulfate, 1% 0.5%) patch application with skin bioengineering measurements for color change(erythema index), TEWL(transepidermal water loss), capacitance and dermal microcirculation (Laser Doppler Flowmetry flux). Results : The intensity of irritation represented by skin bioengineering measurements showed 30 strippings > 1% SLS > 0.5% SLS > 15 strippings, respectively. The younger the less irritation response at different time-course. TEWL, erythema index and microvascular blood distribution (LDF flux) of old group reached the plateau faster and higher than adolescent group. Occlusive patch containing water induced a potential of irritation regardless of age group that might affect early interpretation of skin bioengineering results. Conclusion : Intensity of irritation reaction and its kinetic suggested the role of age-dependent change of skin. The standardization on skin bioengineering measurement techniques along with irritation methods is mandatory to explore further inter-individual differences of irritation reaction in Korean. As architectures have recently become high-risers and mega-structured, stable high strength products have been ensured. Accordingly, use of precast concrete accouplement has been increased in order to facilitate air compression and rationalize construction. Since external rising by the steam heating and internal rising by the accumulation of cement hydration heat for the temperature of members, precast concrete members with large cross-section used for high-rise mega-structure's columns and beams may exhibit different temperature history compared to the precast concrete members for wall and sub-floor with relatively small cross-sections. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the characteristics of temperature history of mass concrete members cast with high-strength concrete for precast concrete application. In this study, large cross-sectional precast concrete mock-up, unit cement quantity, and temperature histories in manufacturing precast concrete member under different curing condition were inclusively investigated. Consequently this research is about the factors of different hydration temperature between the test specimen, typically used in strength management method of concrete, and the mock-up model. We could find that it has a different face. The highest temperature, temperature increment and gradient.
