The purpose of this study is to study real body size and ideal body shape by considering the degree of satisfaction of body part and understanding body size by the degree of leanness/obesity. The subjects in this study were 420 males from 18 to 25 years old. Body measurements and surveys were taken and analyzed by mean, standard variation, correlation analysis, regression analysis, crosstabulation analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's Test. The results of analyses indicate that the subjects tended to be satisfied with thick chest and upper limbs, wide shoulder width, and preferred to be tall and have big hands and feet. By cluster analysis of 19 variables, the subjects were divided into 4 groups, each consisting 41, 138, 134, and 47 males. Because the 19 variables were body measurements transformed to eliminate the body size factor, this classification was considered to express how lean or how obese a human body appears. The results of one way ANOVA and Duncan's Test indicate that, according to the degree of leanness/obesity from Group I (lean tendency) to Group IV(obese tendency), characteristics of the body shape changed as follows; height became lower, limbs became shorter, trunk and limbs became thicker and weight became heavier. Also it showed that Group IV were most satisfied with chest girth, upper limb girth and shoulder width and Group I with height, hip girth and waist girth.

Emile Jaques-Dalcroze believed that our basic perception of musical rhythm is closely associated with motor sensations within the body. Through this concept, he formulated pedagogical ideas of education that combined rhythmic movement, ear training and improvisation. The purpose of this study was to clarify the principles of Dalcroze approach to music education, to investigate the materials in Dalcroze approach, and to suggest the learning program and the lesson plan in which Dalcroze approach is adapted to the music class in the elementary school. Following the introductory chapter including principles and definition of terms used in Dalcroze approach, the study will be organized as follows: The 34 rhythmic elements and the adaptation of those to activities to the class will be followed in Chapter II. Adaptation of Dalcroze in teaching music in the elementary school and actual learning program and the sample lesson plan will be discussed in Chapter III. Conclusion will be followed as Chapter IV.

Selected leafy vegetables, widely used for Korean Namul dishes, were heat-treated in different ways and their folate retention was investigated. The Lactobacillus casei method was applied for folate estimation and validated to ensure reliability of analytical data. The folate content in Namul highly varied, from 29.7 to 293.4 μg/100 g, depending on the heating methods and the types of vegetables. Most of the Namul variants showed increased folate content on heat treatment. Frying yielded higher folate retention than the other cooking methods (blanching, steaming, baking, and panfrying), and pig weed showed the highest folate retention (3.3 times, 293.4 μg/100 g). L. casei assay for folate estimation showed 95.7% recovery and relative standard deviations less than 2% for both reproducibility and repeatability, indicating good accuracy and precision. Quality of the folate assay was assured by monitoring a quality control chart and a proficiency test (z-score= −0.1) during the entire of study.

Mummy disease has been observed for a long time in the button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus farms in Korea, and severe mummy disease occurred on “Shinryung” mushroom, A. blazei recently. Typical symptoms of mummy disease were observed on the mushroom-cultivation beds infected ; tilted caps of mushrooms, browning and lignified internal tissue of stipe, overdevelopment of mycelium around the base of the stipe, and mummified mushrooms. Electron micrographs prepared from internal tissue of stripe of the diseased mushrooms showed that many bacterial cells present inside hyphal cells of the diseased mushroom, which is one of the characteristics of mummy disease reported previously. Survey in Buyo, Chungnam showed that mummy disease occurred at 55% and 83% frequency on bottom mushroom (brown strain) and “Shinryung” mushroom cultivation during year 2000. It indicates that mummy disease is one of the major diseases for the mushrooms cultivation.

Objectives : A 10-year retrospective clinical study was undertaken to determine the differences between two groups according to age at presentation(group A, under 50 ; B, over 50). Methods : We analyzed 468 cases with chronic subdural hematoma admitted to the department of neurosurgery in our hospital from January 1987 to December 1996. The patients were divided into two groups according to age at presentation(group A, under 50 ; B, over 50). Results : 1) The number of group A was 126 cases(26.9%) and that of group B was 342 cases(73.1%), respectively. Males were more frequently involved than females in each group. 2) There noted a history of head trauma in 88.9% of group A and 92.4% of group B. Forty-nine patients(38.9%) of group A and 103 cases(30.1%) of group B revealed a history of alcoholism. 3) Group A patients presented with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure such as headache(75.% ), nausea and vomiting(68.0%). However, Group B patients had more frequent mental changes(84.0%) and focal neurological deficits such as hemiparesis(76.5%). 4) Onset of symptom and its duration was shorter in group A than group B. 5) Six patients among 441 cases(1.4%) treated with burr hole drainage and two patients of 27 cases(5.4%) with craniotomy died, and all of these were group B patients. The two cases among six patients with burr hole drainage developed huge intracerebral hemorrhage and brain stem hemorrhage, respectively. Conclusion : In treating patients with chronic subdural hematoma, distinguishing between two age groups is quite helpful to determine treatment strategies.
