Purpose: To evaluate the effects of intrastromal air injection and intrastromal balanced salt solution (BSS) injection on corneal keratocyte apoptosis. Methods: Twelve right eyes of New Zealand White rabbits were divided into an air-injected group (n=6) and a hydro-injected group (n=6). Contralateral eyes served as a control. Air or Balanced salt solution (BSS?, Alcon, USA) was injected into the deep corneal stroma at the paracentral area to propagate into nearly the entire cornea. To reduce the intraocular pressure, anterior chamber paracentesis was performed. The animals were sacrificed 4 hours (n=6) and 24 hours (n=6) after surgery. Central cornea buttons were retrieved to stain with Hematoxylin & Eosin and TUNEL (Apoptag?, Chemicon). The mean number of apoptotic keratocytes was counted in 24.67±4.04 consecutive high power field (HPF). Results: The mean number of TUNEL-positive cells at 4 hours was 12.85±7.25/HPF and 0.25±0.44/HPF in air-injected and hydro-injected eyes, respectively. It was reduced to 6.25±4.02/HPF and 0.15±0.37/HPF in air-injected and hydro-injected eyes after 24 hours. The air-injected group showed significantly more TUNEL-positive cells compared with the hydro-injected or control group until 24 hours (p=0.001, p=0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). Conclusions: Intrastromal air injection induces significant apoptosis of keratocytes suggesting some damages in the peripheral cornea when used in deep lamellar keratoplasty.

Emergency numbers, such as 112 and 119, are used in many countries to connect people in need with emergency services such as police, fire, and medical assistance. We describe development directions of intelligent response technology for emergency calls. The development of this technology refers to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of response systems by using advanced methods such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics. We focus on a system that assists the receptionist of an emergency call. In the future, the recognition rate and decision-making accuracy of intelligent response technologies should be improved considering characteristics of public safety and emergency domain data. Although the current technology remains at the level of assisting a receptionist, a fully autonomous response technology is expected to emerge in the future.

한국어판 아동식습관 설문지(Korean Children's Eating Behaviour Questionnaire, K-CEBQ)의 타당화 예비연구

Objectives In this study, we obtained Korean version of CEBQ (Children's Eating Behaviour Questionnaire) and verify whether it is reliable or not. Methods Total 106 parents completed this questionnaire, and we gathered children's BMI data and examined the relationship between children's BMI and mean scale scores. Results 1. This study results confirmed the theorectical factor structure, with acceptable internal reliability and between-subscale correlations. 2. There are significant mean scale scores difference between anorexia group and control group. 3. There are significant relations between children's BMI and mean scale scores. Conclusions The results support the use of the CEBQ as a phsychometrically sound tool for assessing children's eating behaviours in Korean children.

아르곤레이저 치료후 재발한 중심와아래 맥락막신생혈관에 대한 광역학치료

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of photodynamic therapy for subfoveal recurrences of juxtafoveal or extrafoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV), previously treated with argon-laser photocoagulation. Methods: Seven eyes, previously treated with argon-laser photocoagulation for juxtafoveal or extrafoveal choroidal neovascularization, received photodynamic therapy for subfoveal recurrence. Changes in visual acuity and fluorescein angiographic findings were analyzed. Results: The average time of appearance of recurrent CNV after laser photocoagulation was 43.14±29.62 months (range, 2-77 months). After photodynamic therapy, fluorescein leakage and neovascular lesion size decreased in all patients on fluorescein angiography. Visual acuity was stabilized or improved in 5 of 7 eyes. Conclusions: Photodynamic therapy was effective in patients with subfoveal recurrences of juxtafoveal or extrafoveal choroidal neovascularization previously treated with argon-laser photocoagulation.

만성비염 환아의 수면의 질과 성장에 관한 임상적 연구

Objectives : The study was designed to find out the relationships between rhinitis, quality of sleep, growth among children with chronic rhinitis. Methods : This research was performed in 50 children from November 2007 to May 2008. We measured height, weight, body mass index of those children and asked to answer to the questionnaires that consist of nasal symptoms, period of time with rhinitis, sleep symptoms, parent's height, present illness, and medical history. We also analyzed correlations with this factors obtained from questionnaires. Results : 1. In 50 subjects, there were significant correlations between nasal obstruction, the quality of sleep, and the between quality of sleep and growth. But, there were not significant correlations between nasal symptoms and growth. 2. In 24 preschool children, frequency of waking up during sleeping and the number of snorers were higher and quality of sleeping was worse than those in the children who were attending school. And there were significant correlations between quality of sleep and nasal obstruction. An average of RH-MPH(Recent Height-Mid-Parental Height) is $-7.74{\pm}36.51(%)$ which means they aren't as tall as MPH(Mid-Parental Height). 3. In 26 school children, there were significant correlations between symptoms and period of rhinitis, quality of sleep and growth. Conclusions : Children with chronic rhinitis have low quality of sleep and low growth. But more studies are needed.

정전분체코팅 공정으로 제조된 SUS316L 분말 다공체의 기공 특성에 관한 연구

Porous metals demonstrate not only excessively low densities, but also novel physical, thermal, mechanical, electrical, and acoustic properties. Thus, porous metals exhibit exceptional performance, which are useful for diesel particulate filters, heat exchangers, and noise absorbers. In this study, SUS316L foam with 90% porosity and $3,000{\mu}m$ pore size is successfully manufactured using the electrostatic powder coating (ESPC) process. The mean size of SUS316L powders is approximately $12.33{\mu}m$. The pore properties are evaluated using SEM and Archimedes. As the quantity of powder coating increases, pore size decreases from 2,881 to $1,356{\mu}m$. Moreover, the strut thickness and apparent density increase from 423.7 to $898.3{\mu}m$ and from 0.278 to $0.840g/cm^3$, respectively. It demonstrates that pore properties of SUS316L powder porous metal are controllable by template type and quantity of powder coating.

성조숙증(性早熟證)에 관한 연구의 최근 동향;최근 중의(中醫) 잡지를 중심으로

Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the treatment of precocious puberty in current traditional Chinese medical journals. Methods To figure out diagnosis methods, treatment methods, treatment effects of oriental medicine about precious puberty, Chinese medical journals from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) which was published from 1999 to 2007 were analyzed and precocious puberty was also been searched. Results 82 articles were selected. 1. Yin and purging Fire(滋陰瀉火) from traditional Chinese Medicine was usually used. 2. The herbs were almost used such as Rehmannia glutinosa(地黃), Anemarrhena asphodeloides (知母), Phellodendron amurense(黃柏), Thesium chinense(夏枯草), Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews(牧丹皮), Alisma canaliculatum(澤瀉), Testudinis Plastrum(龜板), Paeonia japonica(白芍藥), Bupleurum falcatum(柴胡), Genianae Scabrae Radix(龍膽草). 3. The total improvement rate was 72.50 to 100% Conclusions The oriental medical treatments for precocious puberty were presumed to be effective, but more studies are still needed.

거짓비늘증후군에 동반된 단독 섬모체망막동맥폐쇄 1예

Purpose: To report a case of isolated cilioretinal artery occlusion associated with pseudoexfoliation syndrome. Methods: A 66-year-old female presented with acute vision loss of the right eye. Three months prior, she had been diagnosed as having pseudoexfoliation glaucoma of both eyes, and the intraocular pressure of both eyes had been well-controlled with topical medication. Results: The presenting visual acuity in her right eye was 20/100. Fundus examinations showed sectoral retinal whitening on superior macula. Fluorescein angiography revealed delayed filling of the cilioretinal artery, consistent with cilioretinal artery occlusion. No significant findings were identified by carotid doppler examination or echocardiography. After 8 weeks, retinal changes were completely resolved with improvement of her right vision to 20/25. Conclusions: Isolated cilioretinal artery occlusion may develop as an intraocular manifestation of pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Polyelectrolyte Micropatterning Using Agarose Plane Stamp and a Substrate Having Microscale Features on Its Surface

We have introduced polyelectrolyte micro-patterning technique employing agarose plane stamp and a hard substrate having microscale features on its surface. With this method, chemically micropatterned surfaces with both positive and negative functionalities were successfully embedded in well-defined microstructures, and selective impartment of charge functionalities was confirmed by patterning bead bearing surface charge. Furthermore, this technique allows highly sensitive immobilization of protein onto targeted surface simply by endowing functionalities, which extends the potential of its use as a tool for high-throughput protein microarray and proteomics. Because plane agarose stamp is free of structures on its surface, there is no concern for pattern collapse, and the combination of agarose plane stamp with patterned substrate is more suited for selective protein patterning compared with adopting surface-patterned agarose stamp with flat substrate. Our technique using agarose plane stamp and a substrate having microscale features on its surface suggests a range of possible applications, including the micropatterning of biofunctionalized copolymer having polyelectrolyte block, immobilization of micro- and nanoparticle with biofunctionalities such as biotin and streptavidine, and establishing optoelectronic microstructures with micro-beads on various surfaces.

A Case of Cystitis with Bilateral Hydronephrosis Presenting with Gross Hematuria

평소 건강했던 아이들에서 육안적 혈뇨는 드물게 나타나며, 수신증과 동반된 경우 또한 드물다. 3세 남아가 육안적 혈뇨와 배뇨통을 주소로 내원하였다. 소변검사에서 농뇨, 혈뇨 보였으나 소변 배양 검사에서 균이 배양되지 않았으며, 혈액검사와 신체 검진상에서는 특이 소견 관찰되지 않았다. 초음파 검사상 양쪽 수신증과 함께 방광 벽이 두꺼워진 소견 보였다. 배뇨 요도 방광 조영술상 방광 요관 역류는 관찰되지 않았으나 방광 벽 비후가 심했으며, 방광 용적이 줄어들고 모양이 찌그러져있었다. 진단 후 ceftriaxone을 2주간 치료하였다. 항생제 치료 일주일 후 혈뇨 소실되어 초음파 검사를 다시 시행하였고 양쪽 수신증의 호전과 방광 용적 및 모양이 정상으로 호전됨을 관찰하였다. 환아의 배뇨통 증상도 호전되어 퇴원하였다. 외래 추적 관찰 중에 역류 검사 재 시행하였으며 정상 소견 보였다. 육안적 혈뇨 및 현미경적 혈뇨는 더 이상 관찰되지 않았다. 본 저자들은 육안적 혈뇨를 보인 소아에서 양측성 수신증을 동반한 방광염 1례를 경험하여 보고하는 바이다. Gross hematuria is uncommon, and rarely associated with hydronephrosis in healthy children. We describe a 3-year-old boy who complained of gross hematuria and dysuria. He was diagnosed as cystitis with bilateral hydronephrosis, and treated with antibiotics and conservative therapy. Our experience suggests that cystitis with hydronephrosis can occur in healthy children presenting with gross hematuria.
