        Improvement of Korea Meteorological Administration Solar Energy Resources Map Using Fine‑Scale Terrain Data

        Real-time solar energy resources mapping is crucial for the development and management of solar power facilities. This studyanalyzes the effects of the digital elevation model (DEM) resolution on the accuracy of the surface insolation (insolationhereafter) calculated by the Korea Meteorological Administration solar energy mapping system, KMAP-Solar, using twoDEMs of different resolutions, 1.5 km and 100 m. It is found that KMAP-Solar yields smaller land-mean insolation with thefine-scale DEM than the coarse-scale DEM. The fine-scale DEM reduces biases by as much as 32 Wm−2 for all observationsites, especially those in complex terrain and that the insolation error reduction is correlated with the difference in skyview factor (SVF) between the coarse- and fine-scale DEM. Both the coarse- and fine-scale DEMs generate the insolationelevationand insolation-SVF relationship which is characterized by positive (negative) correlation between the insolationand the terrain altitude (SVF). However, the coarse-scale DEM substantially underestimates these relationships comparedto the fine-scale DEM, mainly because the coarse-scale DEM underrepresents large terrain slopes and/or small SVFs, mostseriously in high-altitude regions. The fine-scale DEM generates a more realistic insolation distribution than the coarsescaleDEM by incorporating a wider range of key terrain parameters involved in determining insolation. Improvements ofinsolation calculations in KMAP-Solar using a fine-scale DEM, especially in the areas of complex terrain, is of a practicalvalue for Korea because the operational solar resources map from KMAP-Solar supports solar energy research, solar powerplant installations, and real-time prediction and management of solar power within the power grid.

        Cardiac and Pulmonary Management Status of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in South Korea Based on Data From the National Health Insurance Database

        Background and Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine the cardiac and pulmonary management status of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in South Korea based on the Korean National Health Insurance database. Methods This study used data of patients with code G71.0 in the National Health Information database, and also those with the special case of code V012. Cardiac function was assessed based on whether echocardiography and 24-h electrocardiography were performed, as well as the frequency of these investigations. Furthermore, information on the use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi), angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB), and beta blockers (BB) in the drug benefit list was checked. Medical charge records were also checked regarding the prescription of respiratory functional assessments and treatments. Results The diagnostic criteria were met by 479 patients, with 41% of these patients receiving a cardiac evaluation, 29.8% being prescribed ACEi at 14.4±3.7 years of age, 59.5% undergoing pulmonary function tests, and 42.1% received pulmonary rehabilitation. The age at receiving ventilator support was 19.4±2.7 years. The frequency of cardiac and respiratory function tests increased with age, but the interval between tests was longer than the recent DMD care recommendations. The trend of taking ACEi, ARB, and BB for cardiac management in South Korea did not change during the study analysis period. Conclusions The findings of this study will contribute to recognizing the current status and the importance of applying an anticipatory approach to cardiopulmonary function in DMD patients

        환경교육 활성화를 위한 과학과 교육과정과 환경과 교육과정 비교

        본 연구는 우리나라 과학교육에서 통합교육의 주제로 다루어지는 환경문제와 관련하여 환경교육의 현황과 교육과정을 비교 분석하여 상호연계성과 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 환경과 교육과정과 2015 개정 과학과 교육과정을 분석대상으로 선정하고, 각 교과의 교육과정과 그 변천에 대한 문헌연구와 내용분석(Content Analysis)을 수행하였다. 교육과정 분석은 선행연구를 토대로 핵심역량과 교육목표를 비교하고, 과학과 및 환경과의 공통 소양 요소인 지식, 태도, 탐구, 그리고 참여와 실천의 4가지 범주를 도출하여 분석틀을 구안하고 이를 토대로 내용체계를 재구성하였다. 연구결과 핵심역량과 목표에서 환경교과는 총론기반의 지속가능한 사회참여를, 과학교과는 과학탐구능력과 과학적 소양이 강조되는 차이가 있었다. 또한 내용체계에서는 환경교과가 학습자의 관점을 중시한다면 과학교과는 과학탐구자로의 자세를 강조하였으며, 내용지식의 체계를 중요시하는 과학교과에 비해, 환경교과는 학년간 경계가 거의 없이 과학개념이 적용되는 것으로 나타나 국가 교육과정에서 교과간 내용 지식 연계성에 대한 충분한 정보를 제공할 필요성이 제기되었다. 또한 환경교과가 참여와 실천에 목적을 둔다면 과학교과는 지속가능한 과학기술개발과 개선, 과학적 흥미와 의사결정능력을 기르는데 초점을 두고 있어 체계적인 지속가능발전 교육을 위해 과학과 및 환경과 교육과정이 상호보완 될 필요가 있으며 과학과 교육과정에서 탐구활동의 주제를 더욱 다양하고 통합적인 주제로 다룰 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 탐구 중심의 통합 교과서에서 보다 과학적 문제해결과 평생학습과 참여 역량을 강조하는 교과서로 바꿀 수 있는 기반이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 본 연구는 지속가능발전 교육을 위해 과학과 및 환경과 교육과정의 상호보완에 대한 시사점과 함께 과학교육이 환경교육의 버거운 역할을 분담할 수 있기를 기대한다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the 2015 revised Science Curriculum and Environment Curriculum, and to provide implications for the correlation and complementarity between the two standards. For the analysis of the curriculum, the contents system of the two standards was reorganized based on the four categories of knowledge, attitude, inquiry, participation and practice, which are common literacy elements of science and environment, based on previous studies. Content Analysis was performed on content elements and detailed performance expectation. As a result of this study, there was a difference in terms of the core competencies and goals. The Environment Curriculum emphasized sustainable development and social participation while the Science Curriculum emphasized scientific inquiry and literacy. The contents system analysis results according to the four literacy factors are as follows. First, in terms of attitude, both standards deal with research ethics in common. However Environment Curriculum values learners' values and views on the environment more than Science Curriculum which emphasizes the science attitude as science investigators. Second, there was a serious problem in the knowledge linkage between two standards. In same grade groups, the level of content knowledge dealt in two standards was not consistent. Third, in the inquiry aspect, the Environment Curriculum deals with interdisciplinary topics in the purposefully designed inquiry unit, whereas the Science Curriculum presents various research activities based on related science concepts in every unit. Fourth, in the participation and practice aspect, the Environment Curriculum focused on participation and practice while the Science Curriculum focused on sustainable science and technology development and improvement, scientific interest and decision-making ability. This study provide implications for education for sustainable development(ESD) by providing the complementary potentials between Science Curriculum and Environment Curriculum.

        특발성 혈소판 감소성 자반증 환자의 초치료로서고용량 덱사메타손 요법

        Background: Corticosteroids have been widely used for treatingidiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) as a first-line treatment. Several different pulsed high-dose dexamethasone therapies for adult ITP have been reported on. We assessed the effectiveness of a single course of high dose dexamethasone as first-line treatment for adult patients with ITP. Methods: The subjects of the study were previously untreated adult patients with newly diagnosed ITP and who had a platelet count of less than 20,000/μL or a platelet count less than 50,000/μL. High-dose dexamethasone at a dose of 40mg/day for four consecutive days was given orally. A response was defined as an increase in the platelet count of at least 30,000/μL and a platelet count of more than 50,000/μL by day 10 after the initial treatment. A sustained response was defined as a platelet count of more than 50,000/μL that was maintained for six months after the initial treatment. Results: Twenty two patients were eligible. The median platelet count before treatment was 19,000/μL. Seventeen patients (77%) among the 22 patients achieved an initial response by day 10: the mean platelet count 10 days after the initial treatment was 144,000/μL (range: 51,000 to 428,000/μL). Among the patients with a response, 4 (23.5%) had a sustained response, and the other 13 (76.5%) relapsed within six months. All the patients well tolerated the high-dose dexamethasone treatment. Conclusion: A single course of high-dose dexamethasone is effective as an initial treatment for adults ITP patients, although the response duration is short. To maintain the response, repeated high-dose dexamethasone treatment may be needed or other alternative therapies can be considered.
