This study aims to fill a gap in research concerning musculoskeletal disorders among school cafeteria workers. Our objective was to identify the most problematic tasks contributing to musculoskeletal disease symptoms by analyzing working postures. Utilizing the Musculoskeletal Disease Symptom (MDS) Questionnaire and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, we recruited five culinary workers from two university cafeterias. Workers completed the MDS questionnaire, and REBA assessments, including video recordings, were conducted for two representative workers. Findings highlighted the hand/wrist/finger area as the most susceptible to musculoskeletal pain. Tasks such as "frying quail eggs," "frying bellflower cucumbers," "pretreatment (lifting vegetables)," and "washing rice" displayed an average REBA score exceeding 10, indicating significant physical strain. All 17 identified tasks required improvement, with the wrist showing the highest REBA score, consistent with reported pain by the cooks. Addressing various aspects of the working environment is crucial to mitigate musculoskeletal disorders. Proposed measures include implementing preventive management programs, providing wrist guards to alleviate strain, increasing workforce recruitment, and considering the adoption of automated cooking equipment. Further research in this domain remains essential.

The purpose of this study was to identify the relation of health behaviors and the quality of life in the elderly with high blood pressure. This was a secondary analysis using data from Korea Health Panel for 2015 and the subjects were 2,536 people who were diagnosed with high blood pressure over the age of 65. The data analysis was performed using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. The results showed that the elderly with high blood pressure had higher quality of life as the age was lower(t=12.42, p<.001), economic activity did(t=10.86, p<.001), education level was higher(F=21.53, p<.001), and subjective health status was better(F=282.27, p<.001). In health behaviors, the elderly who drank alcohol(t=2.94, p=.004), smoked(t=9.63, p<.001), and had regular physical activity(t=11.67, p<.001) had higher quality of life than those who did not. But, there was no significant difference in the quality of life among the elderly in compliance with medication. Based on the results of this study, intervention program should be developed and provided to modify the health behaviors and improve the quality of life of the elderly with high blood pressure.

The purpose of this study was to examine the obesity, physical activities, and dietary pattern, and to compare the physical activities and dietary pattern according to the degree of obesity in Korea adults, with data from the 7th Korea National Health Nutrition Examination and Survey Ⅶ-1(2016). This study found that compared with the obesity rate of females at 26.3%, the rate of males was very high at 43.7%. In both males and females, the obesity rate increased in proportion to age. In physical activity, the amount of physical activities among females was higher in normal weight group than obese weight group. In dietary pattern, among males, dietary fiber intake was higher in obese weight group, and among females, intake rate of fat was low and intake rate of carbohydrate was high in obese weight group. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop and provide an intervention program consisting of physical activity and dietary pattern considering the recently changed obesity characteristics for the management of obesity in Korean adults.
Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, and Prevalence in 2020
강미주,정규원,방소현,최서현,박은혜,윤이화,김혜진,공현주,임정수,서홍관,The Community of Population-Based Regional Cancer Registries 대한암학회 2023 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.55 No.2
Purpose The current study provides national cancer statistics and their secular trends in Korea, including incidence, mortality, survival, and prevalence in 2020. Materials and Methods Incidence, survival, and prevalence rates of cancer were calculated using the Korea National Cancer Incidence Database, from 1999 to 2020, with survival follow-up until December 31, 2021. Deaths from cancer were assessed using causes-of-death data obtained from Statistics Korea. Results The number of new cancer diagnoses in 2020 decreased by 9,218 cases (3.6%) compared to 2019. In 2020, newly diagnosed cancer cases and deaths from cancer were reported as 247,952 (age-standardized rate [ASR], 262.2 per 100,000) and 82,204 (ASR, 69.9 per 100,000), respectively. The overall cancer incidence rates increased by 3.3% annually from 1999 to 2012, and decreased by 5.0% annually from 2012 to 2015, thereafter, followed by nonsignificant changes. Cancer mortality rates have been decreasing since 2002, with more rapid decline in recent years. The 5-year relative survival between 2016 and 2020 was 71.5%, which contributed to prevalent cases reaching over 2.2 million in 2020. Conclusion In 2020, the number of newly diagnosed cancer patients decreased due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, but the overall trend is on the rise. Cancer survival rates have improved over the past decades. As the number of cancer survivors increases, a comprehensive cancer control strategy should be implemented in line with the changing aspects of cancer statistics. The long-term impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on cancer statistics needs to be investigated in the future.
