The perturbation of the steady state of reactive oxygen species due to biotic and abiotic stresses in a plant could lead to protein denaturation through the modification of amino acid residues, including the oxidation of methionine residues. Methionine sulfoxide reductases (MSRs) catalyze the reduction of methionine sulfoxide back to the methionine residue. To assess the role of this enzyme, we generated transgenic rice using a pepper CaMSRB2 gene under the control of the rice Rab21 promoter with/without a selection marker, the bar gene. A drought resistance test on transgenic plants showed that CaMSRB2 confers drought tolerance to rice, as evidenced by less oxidative stress symptoms and a strengthened PSII quantum yield under stress conditions, and increased survival rate and chlorophyll index after the re-watering. The results from immunoblotting using a methionine sulfoxide antibody and nano-LC-MS/MS spectrometry suggest that porphobilinogen deaminase (PBGD), which is involved in chlorophyll synthesis, is a putative target of CaMSRB2. The oxidized methionine content of PBGD expressed in E. coli increased in the presence of H2O2, and the Met-95 and Met-227 residues of PBGD were reduced by CaMSRB2 in the presence of dithiothreitol. An expression profiling analysis of the overexpression lines also suggested that photosystems are less severely affected by drought stress. <P>This paper describes a high-frequency pulsed-power generator for various industrial applications such as water treatment, food and medical apparatus for sterilization, or polluted gas treatment. The system is made of silicon-controlled rectifier as a main trigger switch, capacitors, two-stage magnetic pulse compression stages, and a linear transformer to generate a maximum of 120-kV, 5-kA pulse. The parameters obtained through the development are: output voltage: 120 kV (maximum), pulse repetition ration: 300 pulse per second, pulsewidth: 0.25 mu s, and mean power: 30 kW. The designed pulsed-power generator is confirmed to be used effectively for many high-voltage pulsed-power applications related to environmental industry by simulation and experiments.</P>

This study aims to develop policies to strengthen the employability of women aged over 50. Researchers analyzed the status of economic activity and the needs for the employment and training of older women in South Korea. Main findings are summarized as follows: Female workers over 50 tend to work as self-employed(24.9%) and temporary employees(24.3%) rather than regular employees (9.1%). A large number work in Elementary occupations (25.7%), Agricultural, Forestry & Fishery (21.6%), and Services (25.0%) & Sales (12.9%). The main issues of them (of females over 55) leaving work are health (33.4%), family (25.7%), and lack of jobs (16.6%). Barriers of employment are also health (24.4%), age (19.1%), and house works (17.3%). However, 71.8% of males and 44.5% of females over 55 want to work. 61.2% want to have full-time jobs. The purposes of employment are income and meaningfulness. The main requirements of job selection are income and work time. Older women need decent jobs, flexible working hours, employment information, vocational counseling and training, and alleviation of age discrimination in the labour market. To enable older people to work, the government should try to create diverse and decent jobs in communities, provide one-stop services and training opportunities for employment of older women, and support to transform companies and the society into having an older people-friendly working conditions.

Wilms' tumor is the most common malignant abdominal tumor in the adolescent and pediatric period, whereas adult Wilms' tumor is uncommon. Wilms' tumor often originates in the kidney. Extrarenal Wilms' tumor is rare and has been considered "unstageable". Therefore, treatment and long-term survival have not been uniformly reported. We report a 24 year-old female who developed extrarenal Wilms' tumor, in the retroperitoneal space. She was misdiagnosed for ovarian neoplasm and underwent debulking operation, by which Wilms' tumor was confirmed. Palliative chemotherapy and radiotherapy were performed.
Boundary Element Analysis of an Interface Crack in a Bonded Viscoelastic Thin Film

<P>Interfacial stress singularities induced in a laminate model consisting of the viscoelastic thin film and the elastic substrate have been investigated using the time-domain boundary element method. First, the interfacial singular stresses between the viscoelastic thin film and the elastic substrate subjected to a uniform moisture ingression have been investigated near the free surface, but without any edge crack. The thin film is assumed to be a linear viscoelastic material and moisture effects are assumed to be analogous to thermal effects. Then, the overall stress intensity factor for the case of a small interfacial edge crack of length a has been computed. The numerical procedure does not permit calculation of the limiting case for which the edge crack length vanishes.</P>

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is a low-grade malignant salivary gland neoplasm that was first described in 1972. EMC occurs in the older age group, there is a female predilection and mainly involves the parotid gland. Most authors recommend superficial parotidectomy as a treatment for low-grade malignant tumor in the superficial lobe of parotid gland. The treatment of epithelial-myoepithelial tumors typically includes surgical excision aimed at achieving a R0 resection. This paper reports a case of EMC of the parotid gland treated only by a conservational surgical excision. The lesion was exposed by the retromandibular approach and detached. After the parotid gland envelop was exposed, the mass was observed and was easy to remove due to capsulation. The preoperative diagnosis was a pleomorphic adenoma on the left parotid gland. The tumor was removed surgically with a conservative extracapsular dissection. The postoperative diagnosis was EMC, so superficial parotidectomy or radiation therapy was considered. Nevertheless, the patient was observed and no additional treatment was attempted because the patient was old and a successfully excision of the tumor had been achieved.

The Bismuth ferrite oxide is famous by its property of magneto-electric. (1-x)BiFeO₃-xBaTiO₃ powder was prepared by ball-milling method. The specimens were fabricated by uniaxial press and C.I.P.. In differential thermal analysis, there were crystallization at about 830℃. The end result weight loss of adding BaTiO₃ powder was 97.6%. Barium titanate oxide's stable phase convert Bismuth ferrite oxide into equally stable. It was explained by X-ray diffraction (XRD).

The objective of this study was to evaluate platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)’s effectiveness in repairing articular disc defect in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of rabbits. Eight rabbits were divided into four groups of two rabbits each, corresponding to groups A, B, C, and D. Both TMJs of all of the rabbits were used in the experiments: the right joints comprised the experimental groups, and the left ones, the control groups. The disc defect was circular and 2 mm in diameter. In the experimental groups, the PRF was compressed into the defect, whereas the control group defects were left untreated. A, B, C, and D groups were sacrificed at the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks, respectively. The defects of each control group exhibited no specific changes. Contrastingly, in each experimental group, there was an increased number of chondroblasts at the margins of the defects, along with accelerated cell differentiation and a columnar cell arrangement observable at the time of cell differentiation. The experimental groups showed inflammatory cell infiltrations and fibrosis by the 1st week, maturation of chondrocytes by the 2nd week, and proliferation by the 4th week, after which the defects began to be filled with chondrocytes, a process that was complete after the 6th week. In the histological evaluation (H-E), the experimental groups showed significant increases of chondroblasts after the 2nd and 4th weeks, as well as regular columns of chondrocyte arrays observable during cell division. After 6 weeks, the defects were filled with chondrocytes.
