      • Ensembles of neural network with stochastic optimization algorithms in predicting concrete tensile strength

        Juan Hu,Fenghui Dong,Yiqi Qiu,Lei Xi,Ali Majdi,H. Elhosiny Ali 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.45 No.2

Proper calculation of splitting tensile strength (STS) of concrete has been a crucial task, due to the wide use of concrete in the construction sector. Following many recent studies that have proposed various predictive models for this aim, this study suggests and tests the functionality of three hybrid models in predicting the STS from the characteristics of the mixture components including cement compressive strength, cement tensile strength, curing age, the maximum size of the crushed stone, stone powder content, sand fine modulus, water to binder ratio, and the ratio of sand. A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network incorporates invasive weed optimization (IWO), cuttlefish optimization algorithm (CFOA), and electrostatic discharge algorithm (ESDA) which are among the newest optimization techniques. A dataset from the earlier literature is used for exploring and extrapolating the STS behavior. The results acquired from several accuracy criteria demonstrated a nice learning capability for all three hybrid models viz. IWO-MLP, CFOA-MLP, and ESDA-MLP. Also in the prediction phase, the prediction products were in a promising agreement (above 88%) with experimental results. However, a comparative look revealed the ESDA-MLP as the most accurate predictor. Considering mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) index, the error of ESDAMLP was 9.05%, while the corresponding value for IWO-MLP and CFOA-MLP was 9.17 and 13.97%, respectively. Since the combination of MLP and ESDA can be an effective tool for optimizing the concrete mixture toward a desirable STS, the last part of this study is dedicated to extracting a predictive formula from this model.

      • An Analysis of Indian Mentality towards China under the COVID-19 Pandemic

        Juan Hu,Yifan Zhang,Yongjie He 한국국회학회 2020 한국과 세계 Vol.2 No.2

As two populous & influential countries in Asia, Sino-Indian relation plays an important part not only in regional peace and stability, but also at the global level. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic by the end of 2019, the global situation has been considerably affected by the Pandemic, the Indian economy has also been greatly de-stabilized. Domestic contradictions have accumulated and seriously shaken the ruling foundation of Narendra Modi s government. Under such circumstances. India s attitude towards China also fluctuated greatly. In order to transfer domestic contradictions, some political interest groups in India targeted on China. In May-June 2020, the Chinese and Indian armed forces clashed at the border area of the Galwan Valley, resulting in serious casualties, and the Sino-Indian relations have resurfaced. Apart from the inherent differences. India s attitude towards China was also a major inducement during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Under the COVID-19 epidemic, China and India were not two sides in the zero-sum game, but partners who needed further cooperation to combat the Pandemic. This paper analyzes the changes of India s mentality towards China after the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and makes some thoughts on promoting Sino-Indian relations.

Influence of Psychological Factors in Primary Dysmenorrhea Patients on De qi : a Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

        Hu Ni-juan,Li Chun-hua,Wang Pei,Wu Gui-wen,Ma Liang-xiao,Zhu Jiang 사단법인약침학회 2023 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.16 No.1

Background: De qi , the needling sensation, is important in acupuncture treatment. Almost all studies believe that deep needling and manipulation could achieve a significant de qi sensation. However, relatively few studies have examined the effect of psychological factors on de qi, and those that did often reached different conclusions. Objectives: To explore the influence of psychologic factors on de qi in patients with primary dysmenorrhea (PD). Methods: Sixty-eight PD patients with cold and dampness stagnation were randomly allocated to de qi (deep insertion using thick needles, with manipulation, n=17) and non-de qi groups (shallow insertion using thin needles, without manipulation, n=51). Both groups received bilateral needling at Sanyinjiao (SP6) for 30 min. De qi was assessed using the Acupuncture De qi Clinical Assessment Scale (ADCAS). The patients’ acupuncturerelated anxiety and their expectations of the relationship between needle sensation and curative effect were evaluated using a five-point and four-point scale, respectively. Results: Within the de qi group, all patients experienced the de qi sensation, although anxiety levels were unrelated to de qi. Patients’ expectations correlated negatively with de qi timing, and positively with electric sensation. Within the non-de qi group, 59.5% of patients experienced de qi. Between those who experienced it and those who did not, no significant differences were found in anxiety levels, although patients’ expectations differed significantly. Among patients who experienced de qi sensations in the non-de qi group, anxiety and throbbing were positively correlated. Additionally, patients’ expectations correlated positively with de qi intensity, as well as coldness, and numbness. Conclusion: Psychological factors should be considered when studying de qi since PD patients’ expectations could influence the de qi sensation at SP6.

Effect of Kai Xin San on Learning and Memory in a Rat Model of Paradoxical Sleep Deprivation

        Yuan Hu,Ming Liu,Ping Liu,Juan-Juan Yan,Ming-Yue Liu,Gang-Qiang Zhang,Xiao-Jiang Zhou,Bing-Ying Yu 한국식품영양과학회 2013 Journal of medicinal food Vol.16 No.4

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of kai xin san (KXS, at doses of 500, 250, and 125 mg/kg body weight per day), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, on learning and memory in paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD)-induced cognition deficit rats. Two behavior tests (the Open Field test and the Morris water maze task) were used for testing the effects of KXS on a PSD-induced learning and memory deficit model. Furthermore, its effect on the glutamic acid (GLU) and γ-amino-butyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain tissue, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB), and phosphorylated-CREB (p-CREB) expression in the hippocampus was also tested. KXS exerted the greatest cognition against the 48 h PSD-induced cognitive deficit and these effects may be mediated by decreasing the GLU and GABA levels and increasing the levels of BDNF, CREB, and p-CREB. This study indicates that the effect of KXS on learning and memory in a rat model of PSD could be associated with the modulation of neurotransmitter levels and the expression of some genes in the brain that contribute to memory functions.

Preparation of Supported CTAB/MCM-41 and CTAB-Nafion/MCM-41 Mesoporous Molecular Sieve and Their Use in the Brominating Reaction

        Hu, Guoqin,Li, Hua,Liu, Juan,Zhu, Jiang Korean Chemical Society 2011 대한화학회지 Vol.55 No.4

CTAB or CTAB-Nafion catalyst were successfully supported on siliceous hollow tubular MCM-41 which synthesized by hydrothermal method using CTAB as a single template or CTAB and Nafion-Na as mixed templates. The properties of two kinds of catalysts were characterized with XRD, SEM and adsorption and desorption isotherms of nitrogen and pore diameter distribution, respectively. Then they were applied to catalyze brominating reaction of 1,7-heptanediol, moreover the rate of brominating reaction with different catalysts was compared. The results showed that catalytic activities of CTAB/MCM-41 and CTAB-Nafion/MCM-41 are better than CTAB, and that of CTAB-Nafion/MCM-41 is the best because of its phase-transfer and strong acidity function. The two kinds of catalysts can be separated from the reactive products and recycled.

Dammarane-type triterpene oligoglycosides from the leaves and stems of Panax notoginseng and their antiinflammatory activities

        Juan Li,Ru-Feng Wang,Yue Zhou,Hai-Jun Hu,Ying-Bo Yang,Li Yang,Zheng-Tao Wang 고려인삼학회 2019 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.43 No.3

Background: Inflammation is widespread in the clinical pathology and closely associated to the progressof many diseases. Triterpenoid saponins as a key group of active ingredients in Panax notoginseng (Burk.)F.H. Chen were demonstrated to show antiinflammatory effects. However, the chemical structures ofsaponins in the leaves and stems of Panax notoginseng (PNLS) are still not fully clear. Herein, the isolation, purification and further evaluation of the antiinflammatory activity of dammarane-type triterpenoidsaponins from PNLS were conducted. Methods: Silica gel and reversed-phase C8 column chromatography were used. Furthermore, preparativeHPLC was used as a final purification technique to obtain minor saponins with high purities. MS, NMRexperiments, and chemical methods were used in the structural identifications. The antiinflammatoryactivities of the isolated saponins were assessed by measuring the nitric oxide production in RAW 264.7cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharides. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction wasused to measure the gene expressions of inflammation-related gene. Results: Eight new minor dammarane-type triterpene oligoglycosides, namely notoginsenosides LK1-LK8 (1e8) were obtained from PNLS, along with seven known ones. Among the isolated saponins, gypenoside IX significantly suppressed the nitric oxide production and inflammatory cytokines includingtumor necrosis factor-a, interleukin 10, interferon-inducible protein 10 and interleukin-1b. Conclusion: The eight saponins may enrich and expand the chemical library of saponins in Panax genus. Moreover, it is reported for the first time that gypenoside IX showed moderate antiinflammatory activity.

Experimental study of the compressive strength of chemically reinforced organic-sandy soil

        Hu, Jun,Zhang, Lei,Wei, Hong,Du, Juan Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.16 No.3

Organic-sandy soils that contain abundant organic matters are widely encountered in estuarine cities. Due to the existence of organic matters, the strength and stiffness of this type of soil are significantly low. As a result, various geotechnical engineering problems such as difficulties in piling and constructing embankments and a lack of strength in poured concrete may occur in many estuarine sites; ground improvement such as cement treatment to this type of soils is needed. In this study, laboratory tests were performed to investigate the compressive strength of organic-sandy soil reinforced with primarily cement, in which the influences of several factors, namely types of cement and additional stabilizing agent, cement content, and water-cement ratio, were investigated and the orthogonal experimental design scheme was adopted. Based on the test results, an optimal permutation of these influencing factors is suggested for the reinforcement of organic-sandy soils, which can provide a useful reference for the relevant engineering practice.

Uncertain Time-Resource-Cost Trade-Off Models for Construction Project Schedule

Changming Hu,Juan Wang,Yuan Mei 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.8

Construction project schedule is to bring the completion time and the total cost into balance by allocating resources. In order to shorten the completion time and decrease the total cost as far as possible, three time-resource-cost trade-off models for construction project under uncertain environment, including expected value (E-V) model, chance-constrained (C-C) model and chance maximization (C-M) model, were built by using uncertain theory. The duration time of activities, the allocation time of material resources and human resources are considered as uncertain variables in the three models. The E-V model was to shorten the expected completion time under the chance constraint of cost. The C-C model was to obtain the minimum completion time under the chance constraints of completion time and cost. The C-M model was to maximize the chance that the completion time is not lager than the due date under the chance constraint of cost. For the convenience of calculation, the three models were changed into crisp equivalent form. A practical case study was provided to show the application process of three models and the results can be obtained by using the genetic algorithm. Finally, some extended construction project scheduling models are introduced.
