        In this paper, we proposed a new type of optical cell compressor and decompressor, which are essential functional modules in TDM or TDM/WDM hybrid photonic ATM switching systems. The proposed structure drastically decreases hardware requried for implementation by using optical feedback loop for optical pulse delay. Also, it is possible to compress and decompress the large capacity of optical pulse stream just with multi-stage serial connection. We did the experiment of single stage 4 bit cell compression and proved availability of the proposed structure as an essential module for switching systems

        조혈모세포이식 환자에서 침습성 진균 감염에 대한 이트라코나졸 액과 플루코나졸 시럽의 예방 효과 : 전향적, 무작위, 비교 임상시험

        목적 : 조혈모세포이식 환자에서 호중구 감소 기간 동안 이트라코나졸 액(ITZS)과 플루코나졸 시럽(FCZS)의 진균 감염에 대한 예방 효과를 전향적으로 비교해 보고자 하였다. 재료 및 방법 : 2001년 8월부터 2002년 6월까지 가톨릭 조혈모세포이식센터에 입원하여 동종 조혈모세포이식을 받은 만 18세 이상의 환자들을 각각 ITZS와 FCZS군으로 무작위 배정하여 침습성 진균 감염 발생과 약제 관련 부작용을 전향적으로 조사하였다. 결과 : ITZS군에 40명, FCZS군에 38명이 배정되었고, FCZS군 환자의 평균 나이가 더 많았다. 시험 약제 평균투여기간은 ITZS군 16.4일, FCZS군 21.9일로 ITZS군이 더 짧았다. 이는 ITZS군에서 소화기 부작용으로 인한 약제 중단이 더 많았기 때문으로 보인다. 시험 약제 투여 후 총 빌리루빈 수치의 유의한 증가가 관찰되었으나, 약제 관련 부작용은 모든 환자에서 가역적이었다. 호중구감소 기간동안 표재성 진균 감염은 두 군에서 모두 발생하지 않았고, 침습성 진균 감염은 ITZS군 5명(12.5%), FCZS군 8명(21.1%)으로 FCZS군에서 많았으나, 통계학적으로 유의하지 않았고, 사망률에도 유의한 차이는 없었다. 결론 : 침습성 진균 감염에 대한 이트라코나졸 액과플루코라졸 시럽의 예방 효과에 유의한 차이는 없었으나, 앞으로 더 많은 환자를 대상으로 잘 짝지어진 대조군 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다. 부작용 중 간독성과 관련하여 이식시 투여되는 여러 약제들과의 상호작용에 대한 연구도 필요할 것이다. Background : Though fluconazole is widely used for antifungal prophylaxis, it is ineffective against mould infections including Aspergillus species. Itraconazole has a broader spectrum than fluconazole but the capsule form shows erratic bioavailability in neutropenic patients. In this study, we compared itraconazole oral solution (ITZS) with fluconazole syrup (FCZS) for the prevention of invasive fungal infection (IFI) in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. Materials and Methods : Adults receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) from september 2001 to June 2002, were randomly allocated to either the ITZS group or the FCZS group. We prospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of each drug. Results : Out of 78 patients (40 patients in the ITZS group and 38 patients in the FCZS group) who were eligible for this study, 37 patients completed the course of prophylaxis without any evidence of IFI. The mean duration of prophylaxis was 16.4 days for the ITZS group and 21.9 days for the FCZS group (P<0.006). Drug-related adverse events occurred in 28 patients (70.0%) and 19 patients (50.0%) in the ITZS group and the FCZS group, respectively. Common adverse events of ITZS were nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Drug-related reversible hepatotoxicity occurred in 4 patients in the ITZS group. There was a significant elevation of total bilirubin level in the ITZS group. The incidence of suspected IFI occurred in 5 patients (12.5%) who received ITZS, compared with 8 (21.1%) who received FCZS (P=0.372). There were no proven IFIs or superficial (oral/vaginal) fungal infections in both groups. Overall mortality was not different between the two groups (2.5% in the ITZS group versus 5.3% in the FCZS group, P=0.610). Conclusion : ITZS and FCZS showed similar protection against IFI during pre-engraftment period. Poor tolerability due to gastrointestinal troubles of ITZS might limit its success as prophylactic therapy. Well matched controlled study with large number of patients will be required in the future.

        In this paper, we propose a new WDM wavelength locking system which uses the Michelson interferometer with a movable arm. The proposed system can cope easily with an external temperature variation to give a good stability and shows the wavelength locking capability of a resolution below 0.0005㎚.

        In this paper, we proposed an optical balance using a Michelson Interferometer structure. The frequency of the interference signal is changed nonlinearly related with a weight to be measured, and this frequency change is processed by a processor to give a measured weight. Several measurements were performed and the good results were obtained with the fluctuation of about 1g.

        In this paper, we propose Au-Optical WDM Buffer System for resolving contention probiem of packets in Optical Packet Switching System. The proposed system consists of tunable wavelength converters based on SOA, NxN AWG, and fiber delay lines. This structure can reduce ASE and cross-talk noise because the buffering is achieved from passing packets through each different delay line determined by converting the wavelength of input packet. We also perform buffering experiment for two 5Ons optical pulses, and it proves that the proposed system works as expected.

        Antibacterial Effects against Various Foodborne Pathogens and Sensory Properties of Yogurt Supplemented with Panax ginseng Marc Extract

        Panax ginseng marc is produced from fresh ginseng roots during processing and is generally treated as industrial waste. The primary aim of this study was to improve its utilization in the dairy industry as a potential high-value resource. Yogurt was prepared from 11% skim milk powder, 0.1% pectin, 10% sucrose, and ginseng marc ethanol extract (GME, 0.5% and 1.0%) in milk, and was inoculated with a 0.02% yogurt culture (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Streptococcus thermophilus). After fermentation at 40°C for 6-8 h, the physicochemical properties of samples were analyzed by the AOAC, Kjeldahl, and Soxhlet methods. Sensory evaluation was performed based on consumer acceptability scores with a 7-point scale, and antimicrobial effects were measured by the agar plate method. The moisture, crude protein, crude fat, and ash contents of yogurt supplemented with 1% GME were 85.06±0.06%, 4.41±0.01%, 4.30±0.05%, and 0.81±0.03%, respectively, with no significant changes noted from those of yogurt without GME (control), except for an increase in the crude fat content. The sensory scores of color, flavor, texture, overall taste, and overall acceptance of yogurt supplemented with below 1% GME did not differ significantly (p<0.05) to those of the control yogurt. In addition, the growths of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, and Enterobacter sakazakii were inhibited during fermentation and storage. These results suggest that GME could be used in dairy products as a supplement and in the food industry as an antimicrobial material.

        Grammaticalization of Quasi-Modal Auxiliaries

        The goal of this paper is to offer a new account of English quasi-modal auxiliaries, be going to and have to from a grammaticalization perspective. This paper provides an overview of the theory of grammaticalization, including its characteristics, important mechanisms, and its three tentative stages. Grammaticalization is a process that creates new grammatical categories, usually involving a full lexical word that eventually changes into a grammatical function, and a less grammatical meaning that gradually changes into a more grammatical meaning. Bemuse of the complexity of the semantic changes that occur during grammaticalization, no single mechanism can be used to explain all phenomena and therefore a range of mechanisms is proposed. These include metaphor, inference, generalization, semantic bleaching, metonymy, subjectification, analogy and reanalysis. Many of these mechanisms are simultaneously related to the grammaticalization of be going to and have to. By studying the pathways and mechanisms of the grammaticalization process of these words, we can gain a more cogent explanation as to why quasi-modal auxiliaries take their present form and meaning. The application of grammaticalization theory in a comparative analysis of be going to vs. will and have to vs. must, enables us to see the respective similarities and differences in form and function of quasi-modal auxiliaries versus modal auxiliaries.

        Increased antioxidative and nitric oxide scavenging activity of ginseng marc fermented by Pediococcus acidilactici KCCM11614P

        This study aimed to improve the antioxidant and nitric oxide scavenging activities of ginseng marc fermented by Pediococcus acidilactici, thereby creating a biofunctional resource with improved anti-inflammatory capability. P. acidilactici was inoculated in 1% ginseng marc extract; cell viability, pH, and total titratable acidity were measured. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were measured using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and colorimetric method. Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), ${\beta}$-carotene, and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) assays were used to evaluate functionality. Polyphenols and flavonoids totaled $33.7{\pm}0.4$ and $10.0{\pm}0.4mg/g$ of solid, respectively, at 24 h fermentation. P. acidilactici had 40 nM ${\beta}$-galactosidase and 20 nM ${\beta}$-glucosidase activities. Antioxidative activities increased up to 34.5 and 10.2%, respectively, as measured via FRAP and ${\beta}$-carotene assays. Anti-inflammatory activity of the fermented extract-as measured via SNP assay-increased 342%, suggesting that ginseng marc fermented by P. acidilactici could be used in food or pharmaceutical industries.
