      • 마우스의 당뇨병에 대한 과립세포자극인자와 단핵 세포를 이용한 면역 치료

        Treatment of diseases using immunotherapy is an active field in medical research. In this research, we aimed to examine the role of granulocyte cell stimulating factor (GCSF) injection and mononuclear cell (MNC) transplantation in treating diabetes mellitus(DM) induced by streptozotocin in mouse. Behavior experiments and blood analyses were performed on DM induced groups treated with either GCSF or MNC. In addition, liver and kidney examinations were made to compare toxicity at the organ level. Treatment of either GCSF or MNC improved scores in behavior experiments but had no significant effect on blood cell counts within short term periods. Thus, experiments on longer time scales are required for GCSF to activate hematosis. Overall, the results show possibilities of using immunotherapy in treating complications developed by diabetes. 다양한 면역 치료법을 통한 질병의 치료가 의학계에서 지속적으로 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 면역치료법 중 과립세포자극인자(granulocyte cell stimulating factor, GCSF) 투여를 통한 면역 활성화와, 단핵구 이식을 통한 당뇨 모델의 치료 효과를 보고자 하였다. 당뇨 모델은 스트렙토조토신(streptozotocin, STZ)을 투여한 후 혈당 및 행동의 변화를 확인하였다. 이후 한 군은 단핵구를 이식하고, 다른 한 군은GCSF를 투여한 뒤 혈액을 분석하고, 합병증과 치료 효과를 보기 위해 간과 신장도 관찰하였다. 그 결과STZ군이 전체적으로 행동 능력이 떨어졌지만 단핵구와 GCSF의 투여로 torso twist와 escape test 결과가향상되어 단기적인 치료효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구를 통해 단핵구와 GCSF의 당뇨병에 대한 단기 치료 여부를 확인할 수 있었으나 이후 장기적 치료 여부를 추가로 확인할 필요가 있다. 이러한 결과는면역계를 활성화하는 면역치료가 당뇨의 합병증 예방을 하는데 활용될 수 있다는 가능성을 제시한 데 의의가 있다.

        새로운 선발 마커 D-아미노산 산화효소 유전자를 이용한 식물 형질전환

        Though higher plants can not metabolize D-amino acid, many prokaryotes and eukaryotes have the D-amino acid metabolism. Therefore, we transformed tobacco plants with D-amino acid oxidase (DAO), which can metabolize D-amino acid, and confirmed that transgenic tobacco plants might metabolize D-amino acid. Transgenic tobacco plants were survived a high concentration of D-serine, however non-transgenic plants were not grown on D-serine medium. From Southern and Northern blot analysis, transgenic tobacco plants selected on D-serine medium were confirmed by insert and expression of transgene. T1 tobacco seeds derived T0 tobacco plants selfing were grown on D-serine medium and showed normal phenotype compared to wild tobacco plants. Transgenic tobacco plants displayed the metabolic capability of D-serine. Therefore, we suggested that DAO is useful selectable marker gene for plant transformation.

        It is important to produce the high-temperature and high-pressure air for the concentrated solar power system using the combined cycle. In this paper, we designed two types of tubular receivers to heat up the compressed air and provided their preliminary experimental results for performance evaluation and further improvements. The developed receivers are in a square cavity shape surrounded by flow conduits for easy scale-up and radiation loss reduction. The two receivers were tested with 5 bar air in the KIER solar furnace and evaluated in terms of the outlet temperature and the efficiency.

        Prevalence of anaphylaxis and prescription rates of epinephrine auto-injectors in urban and rural areas of Korea

        Background/Aims: Despite the clinical importance anaphylaxis and the recent increase in its occurrence, studies regarding the epidemiology of anaphylaxis, risk factors for anaphylaxis, and epinephrine auto-injector (EAI) prescription status for patients with anaphylaxis remain poorly described. Thus, we investigated the prevalence of anaphylaxis and prescription rates of EAI in urban and rural areas in Korea. Methods: We used data from the 2010 to 2014 Health Insurance Review and Assessment database. Anaphylaxis was identified through physician-certified diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases 10th (ICD-10) codes (T780, T782, T805, T886). Data on prescription rates of EAI were collected from the Korea Orphan & Essential Drug Center, the only pharmacy exclusively dealing with EAI in Korea. The prescription rates of EAI were defined as the number of EAI prescribed against the number of patients with anaphylaxis. Results: The prevalence of anaphylaxis over the 5-year period was 0.023%. The annual prevalence of anaphylaxis increased over the 5-year period. Anaphylaxis was more common in males than in females (54% vs. 46%) and in the population aged 50 to 59 years old. For regional analysis, urban areas showed a relatively lower prevalence of anaphylaxis (17.3 per 100,000 individuals) along with higher prescription rates (12.0%) of EAI for patients with anaphylaxis. In contrast, rural areas showed a relatively higher prevalence of anaphylaxis (28.8 per 100,000 individuals) along with lower prescription rates (3.1%) of EAI. Conclusions: The prevalence of anaphylaxis has increased annually in Korea. There were regional differences in the prevalence of anaphylaxis and prescription rates of EAI between urban and rural areas in Korea.

        자율주행 관련 특허의 자동차 부품 산업 내 기업 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 분석

        Self-driving technology is changing the paradigm of automotive industry. Since it is imperative to converge this emerging technology with ICT and there is a time lag between securing this emerging technology and occurrence of firm performance, it is difficult to make decisions on technology development. This study investigates patent indicators to understand the impact of self-driving technology on performance of automotive parts companies. We analyze 611 of self-driving technology patents from 2000 to 2016 and the financial performance of 270 small and medium businesses that register the corresponding patents with consideration of up to four years of time lag. Our analysis results show that patents related to self-driving has a positive impact on asset growth of 2 years and sales growth of 3 years in terms of time lag. This study contributes to the literature by analyzing the impact of technology development on the firm performance in case of convergence of the automotive and ICT industries. Additionally, this study provides a role of patent in knowledge management planning through technology development as a practical implication.

        지역 사회 응급체계 구성원들의 아나필락시스에 대한 인지도 조사

        . Purpose: Anaphylaxis is life-threatening, so early recognition and proper response are critical. This study evaluated the awareness of anaphylaxis in Korean community including teachers, 119 rescue team, and doctors in public service. Methods: A questionnaire of anonymously structured 9 items about anaphylaxis was administered to the teachers working in kindergartens or elementary schools, 119 rescue team, and public health physicians in Gangwon province in 2017. Additional questionnaire about knowledge on anaphylaxis management was administered to the physicians. Results: A total of 415 people participated in the survey. About 4% of child care and health teachers experienced anaphylaxis within 1 year, but the overall awareness of anaphylaxis was very low, regardless of the educational level of anaphylaxis. 119 rescue teams experienced more anaphylactic patients, but they lacked knowledge of epinephrine administration and epinephrine autoinjector (EAI), independent of the educational level of anaphylaxis. Public health physicians had good knowledge of early treatment for anaphylaxis, but there was a lack of knowledge for epinephrine injection sites, observation plan, and EAI. Conclusion: The awareness of anaphylaxis among community and emergency responders seems likely to be inadequate. Systematic and continuous education by anaphylaxis specialists is necessary for community health care providers.

      • 서지분석을 활용한 우리나라 과학기술 국제협력 전략에 대한 연구

        기존의 경로를 빠르게 따라가는 추격형 경제성장을 성공적으로 마무리한 우리나라는 이제 새로운 경로를 개척해야 하는 탈추격형 경제성장의 도전에 직면하고 있다. 이를 타개할 가장 중요한 방향 중에 하나는 창의성에 기반을 둔 탁월한 연구개발 역량을 강화일 것 이다. 이를 뒷받침할 전략으로서 해외우수연구기관과의 연계와 유치를 통한 과학기술역량의 강화가 시급한 과제로 부상하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국제 과학기술협력의 관점에서 해외우수연구기관의 유치전략을 개선하기 위해 서지자료를 바탕으로 최우수연구기관의 목록과 네트워크를 도출하였다. 결과에 따르면, 컴퓨터과학, 약리학, 미생물학 분야가 상대적으로 질적 수준이 떨어져, 해외 우수기관과의 연계를 통해 성과를 제고해야 할 분야로 나타났다. 또한 이러한 세 분야 최우수연구기관의 연구네트워크를 분석하고 협력전략을 제시해 보았다.
