이 short note에서 우리는 bulk gadolinium의 강자성에서 상자성으로의 전이온도(즉, Curie점) 측정에 대한 결과를 보고하고자 한다. 이 결과보고는 gadolinium박막에 대한 이전의 결과에 정당성을 주기 위해서 쓰여졌다. 본 실험에서 bulk gadolinium의 Curie점은 시료의 저항을 온도의 함수로 측정함으로써 결정하였다. 이는 Curie점에서 비열의 특이성이 바로 비저항의 특이성으로 연결되기 때문이다. 결과적으로 우리는 bulk gadolinium의 Curie점이 19.2${\pm}$0.$3^{\circ}C$가 되고이 값은 비열의 실험치로 결정한 다른 그룹들의 실험값들과 잘 일치하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. In this short note, we report the result of measurement for the ferro- to paramagnetic phase transition temperature, that is Curie point of bulk gadolinium. This note is written to give the solid validity for the previous measurement of Curie point shift of gadolinium film (1. Rhee, E. Lee and S. Lee, Kor. J. of Mat. Research,3, 3, 1993). The Curie point of bulk gadolinium is determined by measuring the resistance of sample as function of temperatures. At Curie point, we can observe the resistivity anomaly which arises due to the heat capacity difference between below and above Curie point. Finally, the curie point of bulk gadolinium is found to be 19.2${\pm}$0.$3^{\circ}C$.

Superparamagnetic Transition in Ultrasmal Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

We report the superparamagnetic transition for USPIO (ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide) nanoparticies with an average diameter of 7 nm. This was observed in the zero field cooled/field cooled (ZFC/FC) and hysteresis curves. The field dependence of the blocking temperature followed the Almeida- Thouless linear behavior of a spin glass system below a crossover field of = 300 Oe. However, a more rapid change in the blocking temperature with increasing applied field was observed above , which can be qualitatively explained by the dipole-dipole interactions in the powder sample. The temperature dependence of the coercivity followed a power law of in the intermediate temperature range.

Chitosan-coated Ferrite (Fe3O4) Nanoparticles as a T2 Contrast Agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles coated with biocompatible chitosan were synthesized for use as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) contrast agent. The coating was performed simultaneously with the synthesis of the ferrite nanoparticles. A dynamic light-scattering spectrometer (DLS)and a transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to measure the average diameter of the coated nanoparticles, which was 67.0 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) measurements showed strong bonding of the chitosan molecules to the surfaces of the ferrite nanoparticles. The spin-lattice (T1) and the spin-spin (T2) relaxation times of the nuclear spins (hydrogen protons) in aqueous solutions of various concentrations of coated ferrite nanoparticles were determined using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. Using these data, we found that the T1 and the T2 relaxivities of the nuclear spins in aqueous solutions of ferrite nanoparticles were 0.00291 and 0.0691 ppm−1sec−1, respectively. In particular, the value of the T2 relaxivity was much larger than that of the commercial contrast agent GD-DTPA (gadolinium diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid). A 31.7% intensity loss in the T2 image of a rabbit liver was observed after injecting the aqueous solution of coated nanoparticles into the rabbit, which shows that our coated ferrite nanoparticles can be used as a T2 MRI contrast agent.

We argue thet moral beliefs have the cognitive meanings as well as emotive meanings. We can evaluate the cognitive values of action-sentences in terms of moral values. We apply decision theory to moral choices. The advantage of this approach is that we can justify moral choices, not on the ground of their unconditionality, absoluteness, and abstraction, but on the ground of their conditionality, relativity, and empirical strategy. 간세포암의 피부 전이 2예

Hepatcvellular carcinoma can metastasize via the blood vessels or the lymphatic and may invade adjacent tissues directly But skin metastases from primary hepatocellular carcimoma occur rarely, though hepatocellular carcinoma is a common malignancy in Korea. We report cases of cutaneous metastasis in patients with preexisting hepatocellular carcinoma. First patient was a 64-year-old male who had multiple indurated papules and nodules on the scalp. Nokules, which were composed of tumor cells and intervining capillaries, showed characteristic histopathologic features mimicking those of primary hepatocellular carcinoma. The other patient was a 55-year old female presenting a solitary nodule on the vulva, which showed the histopathology similar to those of the first patient. We discussed these cases with a review of previous reports of skin metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma.

Recent studies on the transnational adoptee narratives have focused upon a new individuality based on the discursive constitutions of selfhood. This paper intends to rethink this new individuality in terms of an adoptee’s search for his/her “intrinsic place,” where their beings would peacefully and self-confidently dwell. Jane Jeong Tranka’s Fugitive Visions deals with the author’s autobiographical adoptive experiences : the early abandonment by her Korean family, the adoption by white American parents, the failed marriage with a white man and the subsequent return to Korea with self exhaustion. Jane, the adoptive subject, managed to achieve her own “intrinsic place” after her return to Korea, which she had desperately strived to find in the United States and in Korea in vain. She realized that neither the biogenetic origin of hers nor “as if begotten” family making of adoptive life constitutes her “intrinsic place.” The place as such, the author conveys to the reader, will be possible only when the subject detaches themselves from their presumed place and awakens the genuine “homeless” consciousness as Heidegger declared in his “Building Dwelling Thinking.” It might be emphasized that Jane’s perception of her “homeless” reality enables her to perform the detachment and the true dwelling. In the poignant memoir, the author brings forth the question that our own “intrinsic place” could be the result of our subconscious colonization of the “nonplace,” or “in-between” entities.

Anselm's ontological argument has been discussed by some of the most influential philosophers such as Rene Descartes and Immanuel Kant in the history of philosophy. The key point of the problem caused by the ontological argument is whether to regard being as a necessary property of God or not. In the contemporary philosophy, the problem is usually dicussed on the background of philosophy of language, especially on the basis of Wittgenstein's philosophy, which mainly concerns the limit of language. So, we think, it is necessary to analyse the problem in view of Wittgenstein's philosopy. This essay is written in order to investigate the validity of the argument in the light of his thought.

We report two cases of cutaneous metastases originating from esophageal carcinoma. Case 1, about 0.5cm sized brownish round keratotic papule was detected 1 month ago on the left fifth finger tip in a 70-year-old man. Case 2, about 1.5×1.2cm sized ivory oval flat topped elevated nodule was detected 1 month ago on the lower lip in a 60-year-old man. Histologic examination of case 1 showed that dilated lymphatics contained tumor nests, some of which showed central necrosis. Case 2 showed tumor cell infiltration from upper dermis to mid dermis. Regardless of chemotherapy, both patients died after two and three months from the appearance of cutaneous lesions respectively.
