Purpose: We investigated the protective effect of a mixture of 2 herbal extracts, KH-465, which consisted of Epimedium koreanum Nakai and Angelica gigas Nakai, on spermatogenesis in a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist-induced rat model of male infertility.Materials and Methods: Seventy-five 12-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, containing 15 rats each: a normal control group that received no treatment and 4 experimental groups (I, II, III, and IV) in which an LHRH agonist was administered for 4 weeks to induce spermatogenic failure. Group I received distilled water, and groups II, III, and IV received 200 mg/kg/day of KH-465, 400 mg/kg/day KH-465, and depo-testosterone for 4 weeks, respectively. Weight changes of the testis and epididymis, sperm count motility, and levels of testosterone (T), free T, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) were estimated.Results: Body, testis, and epididymis weight showed no significant differences among the control and experimental groups. Treatment with KH-465 increased the sperm count and motility. Serum hormone levels of T, free T, and FSH were not significantly different in the experimental groups, while the LH level was higher than in the LHRH agonist-induced control group, but not to a significant extent. Levels of SOD were higher and 8-OHdG were lower in the groups that received KH-465 than in the LHRH agonist-induced control group.Conclusions: Our results suggest that KH-465 increased sperm production via reducing oxidative stress and had a positive effect in a male infertility model.

ecently, many production processes ai·e autom ated, and these products have uniform quality. However, it is still necessary to produce the products by hand, and sew ing is one of them. In order to keep the quality of these products constant, a quality evaluation is needed. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a method to autom atically inspect sewing quality using computer vision. The proposed method uses vai·ious image processing techniques such as noise reduction, contrast enhancement, binai·ization, and labeling to find tlu·eads and folded lines in real - time input image, and eva luate the sewing quality based on them. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a real- time processing speed and in most cases the sewing quality is accurat ely inspected.
Changing Relationships between Education and Marriage among Korean Women

Using the data from the 1-percent microdata sample of 2010 Census (N = 107,741), we examine changing relationships between education and first marriage across Korean women of three birth cohorts born in 1951-60, 1961-70, and 1971-80. We apply discrete-time hazard models to the person-year data, allowing the effect of women’s educational attainment on the risk of marriage to fully vary across cohorts and over duration. Women of younger cohorts have increasingly delayed and forgone marriage regardless of educational levels. However, the trend toward later and less marriage has been particularly significant among the lowest educated. In the result, for the youngest cohort, the percentage of women who remained single by the age 39 is highest at both ends of educational attainment. This contrasts the pattern among the oldest cohort where there was a linearly negative relationship between education and marriage, consistent with the findings in other East Asian countries.
Mirodenafil for the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors are the most commonly used treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). Since the launch of sildenafil, several drugs−including mirodenafil, sildenafil citrate (sildenafil), tadalafil, vardenafil HCL (vardenafil), udenafil, and avanafil−have become available. Mirodenafil is a newly developed pyrrolopyrimidinone compound, which is a potent, reversible, and selective oral PDE5 inhibitor. Mirodenafil was launched in Korea in 2007, and an orally disintegrating film of mirodenafil was developed in 2011 for benefitting patients having difficulty in swallowing tablets. This study aimed to review the pharmacokinetic characteristic profile of mirodenafil and report evidence on its efficacy in the case of ED. In addition, we reviewed randomized controlled studies of mirodenafil’s daily administration and efficacy for lower urinary tract symptoms.
Controlling Legal Risk for Effective Hospital Management

Purpose: To analyze the types of medical malpractice, medical errors, and medical disputes in a university hospital for the proposal of countermeasures that maximize the efficiency of hospital management, medical departments, and healthcare providers.Materials and Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed and analyzed 55 closed civil lawsuits among 64 medical lawsuit cases carried out in Pusan National University Hospital from January 2000 to April 2013 using medical records, petitions, briefs, and data from the Medical Dispute Mediation Committee.Results: Of 55 civil lawsuits, men were the main plaintiffs in 31 cases (56.4%). The average period from medical malpractice to malpractice proceeding was 16.5 months (range, 1 month to 6.4 years), and the average period from malpractice proceeding to the disposition of a lawsuit was 21.7 months (range, 1 month to 4 years and 11 months).Conclusions: Hospitals can effectively manage their legal risks by implementing a systematic medical system, eliminating risk factors in administrative service, educating all hospital employees on preventative strategies, and improving customer service. Furthermore, efforts should be made to establish standard coping strategies to manage medical disputes and malpractice lawsuits, operate alternative dispute resolution methods including the Medical Dispute Mediation Committee, create a compliance support center, deploy a specialized workforce including improved legal services for employees, and specialize the management-level tasks of the hospital.

Objective To establish a supraorbital nerve sensory conduction recording method and assess its usefulness. Methods Thirty-one healthy subjects without a history of trauma or neurological disease were recruited. For the orthodromic procedure, the recording electrode was attached immediately superior to the supraorbital notch. The stimulation electrode was placed on points along the hairline which evoked the largest sensory nerve action potentials (SNAPs). The antidromic sensory response was recorded after switching the recording and stimulating electrodes. The measured parameters were onset latency, peak latency, and baseline to peak amplitude of the SNAPs. The electrophysiological parameters of the bilateral supraorbital nerves were compared. We also recruited two patients who had sensory deficits on one side of their foreheads because of laceration injuries. Results The parameters of orthodromically recorded SNAPs were as follows: onset latency 1.21±0.22 ms (range, 0.9–1.6 ms), peak latency 1.54±0.23 ms (range, 1.2–2.2 ms), and baseline to peak amplitude 4.16±1.92 V (range, 1.4–10 V). Those of antidromically recorded SNAPs were onset latency 1.31±0.27 ms (range, 0.8–1.7 ms), peak latency 1.62±0.29 ms (range, 1.3–2.2 ms), and baseline to peak amplitude 4.00±1.89 V (range, 1.5–9.0 V). There was no statistical difference in onset latency, peak latency, or baseline to peak amplitude between the responses obtained using the orthodromic and antidromic methods, and the parameters also revealed no statistical difference between the supraorbital nerves on both sides. Conclusion We have successfully recorded supraorbital SNAPs. This conduction technique could be quite useful in evaluating patients with supraorbital nerve lesions.
뇌손상 예측을 위한 3차원 시뮬레이션 모델의 충격 방향에 따른 해석 결과 비교

본 연구는 뇌-머리 구조를3차원 모델로 제작하고 충격 시뮬레이션을 통해 뇌손상을 예측하기 위한연구이다. 뇌척수액(CSF)부분을 유체로 설정하고 ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian)방식으로 해석할 수 있도록 3차원 모델을 제작하였으며, 머리에 충돌하는 질량체(Impactor) 속도를 조절하여 충격발생 시 발생하는 충격력을 기준으로 입력 값을 설정하였다. 여러 방향에서 충격을 주어 뇌에서 측정되는 최대압력 데이터로 뇌손상을 예측한다. Nahum.A는 머리 충격시험을 사체를 대상으로 실험을 하였으며, 시뮬레이션의 객관성을 확보하기 위하여 사체실험 데이터를 활용하였다. Nahum.A의 사체실험 방법을 시뮬레이션으로 모사하여 Nahum.A가 실험한 사체실험 데이터와 해석 결과값인 시뮬레이션 데이터 비교를 통해 모델의 타당성을 검증하였다. 충격 방향에 따라 뇌의 위치별(Front, Parietal, Occipital, Fossa)압력 분포가 달라지는 경향을 확인하여, 동일한 충격이 외부로부터 가해질 때 뇌손상에 가장 위협적인 충격 방향을 예측하는 연구를 수행하였다.
