Reflective Chaos: The Significance of Mirror Images in Ellison’s Invisible Man

This paper aims to expound the thematic, structural, and narratological significances of mirror images in Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man (1952). Suggested by the recurrent mirror metaphors in the narrative is a world in which heterogeneous and often contrasting elements mirror one another within and across boundaries, invalidating the rationality of epistemological categorization evinced in the protagonist’s quest for self-construction. Indeed, the protagonist’s experience throughout the narrative can be characterized by repeated variations on a theme of castration. Such repeated frustrations entrap the invisible man in the structure of mise en abyme and debunks the supposed progression in the narrative proper, a problem further brought into recognition by the political structure of modern America that keeps its black population ‘running in the loop.’ It is after his literal plunge into the subterranean abyss that the invisible man through his self-reflection comes to terms with the reflective chaos of his identity and the reality. As a narrator, he elicits a creative possibility from his experience of this reflective chaos to construct his own discursive mirror on which are reflected the images of multiplicitous entities that compose America. Thus does the narrator transform what has previously imprisoned him into a modus operandi for liberating the consciousness not only himself, but also his race, the social minorities, and the nation transposed onto his reflective and reflecting narrative.

Tumor-Specific Immunity Induced by Cryoablation in a Murine Renal Cell Carcinoma Model

Purpose: To evaluate tumor-specific immunity and define the mechanisms involved in the cryoimmunologic response, we compared the tumor control efficacy and immunologic responses of cryoablation with those of surgical excision in a tumor rechallenge model. Materials and Methods: Sixty BALB/c mice with RENCA tumors that were generated in the left flank area underwent cryoablation or radical excision. The mice successfully treated were rechallenged with RENCA or an undifferentiated colon carcinoma cell line, CT26, in the contralateral right flank area. The recurrence rate after tumor rechallenge in each group was then observed. To assess the immunologic response of each treatment modality, fluorescent-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis and a cytotoxicity assay using 51Cr release were performed. Results: After reinoculation of the RENCA cells, the rate of tumor growth was significantly higher in the surgical excision group than in the cryoablation group (94.4% vs. 11.1%, p=0.001). In the cryoablation group, the tumor growth rate was significantly increased after rechallenge of CT26 cells compared with RENCA (94.1% vs. 11.1%, p=0.001). The cryoablation group showed an elevated CD3, CD4, CD8 T, and natural killer cell count in the FACS analysis and also showed significantly increased cytotoxicity in the 51Cr release assay compared with the excision group. Conclusions: These results showed that cryoablation, compared to surgical resection, was more effective in preventing tumor growth after rechallenge with RENCA cells and that this response was tumor-specific, because the CT26 cells did not have the same effect.

Research on China’s Cold Chain Logistics of Aquatic Product

In recent years, with the development of national economy and the improvement of living level, people have got higher and higher requirements for the quality food, especially fresh agricultural products. Because of the perishability of fresh agricultural products, they must be transported and stored with cold chain. Among them, the perishability of aquatic products is more prominent. However, there are a lot of problems in China’s cold chain logistics. In order to improve the efficiency of the cold chain and get the situation of cold chain better, a research for the cold chian logistics mode seems to be needed. Under the fourth party logistics theory, this paper attempts to analyze and explore new mode of aquatic products and cold chain logistics by analyzing both domestic and international cold chain logistics. This paper introduces the background of the subject, the purpose, as well as domestic and international research status. And then proposes the related concepts of aquatic product and cold chain logistics. This dissertation analyzes the commonness and characteristics of the cold chain logistics of aquatic products in foreign countries. And then illustrates the problem of aquatic products cold chain logistics in china compared with the developed countries and introduces the typical cold chain pattern of aquatic products in the developed countries. Finally, this dissertation proposed the model how the cold chain logistic can be applied to disdistributing aquatic product. As the funds of enterprise are not sufficient, we can absorb the government, banks, quality inspection institutions, transportation departments into the platform. The government and enterprises share the function of build, guiding and supervising of the platform. This paper attempts to realize the great leap forward development in the mode of market cultivation and logistics development.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to determine the suitability of ultrasonography for detecting endotracheal tube placement in the emergency department. Methods: Emergency physicians examined patients immediately following intubation or after intubated patients were transferred. A linear ultrasound transducer was placed transversely on the cricothyroid membrane and suprasternal notch in order to check for the “comet head and tail sign”and “double ring sign”, and a sagittal view of the neck was also obtained in order to look for the “bold parallel lines sign”. Subsequently, simple thoracic sonography and color doppler sonography were used to check for the “lung sliding sign”. The examiner evaluated whether the tube was placed in trachea, the esophagus, or the right main bronchus. The accuracy of ultrasonography was calculated, and the required time for ultrasonography was checked. Results: One hundred ten patients were enrolled in the study. The endotracheal tube was placed in the trachea in 107 patients, in the esophagus in 2 patients, and in the right main bronchus in 1 patient. The sensitivity and specificity of ultrasonography were 100%. The bold parallel lines sign and lung sliding sign proved to be good indicators of endotracheal tube placement. The average required time for ultrasonography was 28.6±5.8 seconds. It was difficult to determine tube placement by thoracic ultrasonography in patients with pneumothorax, hemothorax, pleural effusion, or empyema. Conclusion: Ultrasonography is well suited for confirming endotracheal tube placement in the emergency department.

4대 주요 일간지 이념성의 상호작용에 대한 연구

본 연구는 4개의 주요 일간지들이 갖는 이념성을 대상으로 한다. 89년 하반기부터 2005년 하반기까지 각 신문들의 이념성을 사설에 대한 표본 추출을 통해 반기별로 측정하고, 측정된 이념성이 어떠한 상호 연관성을 가지는지를 다변량 시계열 모형으로 분석하였다. 공적분 검정결과 네 신문들의 이념성 시계열 사이에 장기 균형 관계가 존재함이 발견되었으므로, 이를 모형에 반영할 수 있는 오차수정모형을 적용하였다. 또한 한 신문의 이념성이 다른 신문의 이념성에 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 대한 인과관계를 살펴보기 위해 약외생성 검정을 실시하였으며, 그 결과 조선일보가 각 신문들의 이념성 형성에 능동적인 역할을 하고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다.

Research Analysis Regarding the Competiveness of China’s Automobile Industry Clusters -Focusing on the clusters in China’s northeastern region

China is currently developing and promoting an industrial cluster policy at the government level. By enacting the ‘Opinion on promoting industrial cluster development’, China is supporting the development of industrial clusters. Building an industrial cluster is done by using a single factor but requires many additional factors like regional characteristics, competitiveness factors are also diversified. To evaluate the competitiveness of the Chinese automobile industry cluster, a competitiveness element index should be developed and a competitiveness evaluation method is needed to evaluate the importance of each element. To accomplish this objective, this research applied the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and focused on the importance of the competitiveness elements. This research investigated the character is tics regarding cases of clusters and also analyzed the competitiveness of the Changchun automobile cluster located in northeastern China. The purpose of this research is to help Korean enterprises who enter China in the hopes that Korea will emerge as a top automobile production country.

지방자치단체 토지수용제도 실태분석과 개선방안

본 논문은 "지방토지수용위원회" 제도의 문제점을 개선하기 위해 영국과 미국의 토지수용 제도 등 이론적 고찰을 통해 정책적 시사점을 도출하는 한편 지방자치단체 토지수용 사례를 중심으로 개선방안을 모색했다. 첫째, 미국의 토지수용(Takings)은 공청회(Public hearing)와 배심제(The jury)의 활용이다. 토지수용권(Eminent domain)을 통해 재산을 강제수용하기 위해서는 공청회를 통해 이해관계인과 시민들에게 수용에 대한 필요성과 인식을 나누고 있으며 사업시행자 (행정기관)가 법원에 소송을 제기하여 공용수용권을 행사하도록 한다. 둘째, 영국의 강제매수(Compulsory Purchase) 제도는 의회가 제정한 법률에 근거를 가져야 하고 CPO를 사용하겠다는 결의도 지방의회에서 결정하게 하여 권력남용을 방지하는 시스템을 갖추고 있다. 셋째, 한국의 지방자치단체 토지수용위원회 개선방안으로 ${\triangle}$지방토지수용위원회 전문성 확보 ${\triangle}$유형별 신속한 토지수용 ${\triangle}$권리보호를 위한 대안제도 마련 등이 필요하다. This thesis is intended for addressing issues of the local expropriation committee system by drawing the policy suggestion through theoretical considerations on the land expropriation system of the UK and of the US, and for finding a plan to improve the system by focusing on the examples of land expropriation of local governments. The US' Takings utilize a public hearing and the jury system. When property is expropriated through eminent domain, stakeholders and citizens share the necessity of the expropriation and its awareness through a public hearing, and project institutes (administrative organizations) file a lawsuit to a law court to exercise takings. In the case of Compulsory Purchase in the UK, the system should be based on laws established by the Parliament, and the resolution to use CPO is also decided by district councils. So the system is able to prevent power abuse. As a plan to improve the land expropriation committee of local governments, it is necessary ${\triangle}$ to enhance the professionality of the local land expropriation committee, ${\triangle}$ to expropriate lands by the analysis of land type, and ${\triangle}$ to come up with alternative measures to prevent the rights of the expropriated.

외국인 직접투자가 중국 국내고용에 효과에 관한 고찰

对外直接投资对投资国就业的影响是国际直接投资对母国经济效应研究中的一个热点问题,也是母国政府部门所关注的对外直接投资的主要经济效应之一。中国的对外投资始于改革开放初期,20多年的发展已初具规模,随着中国“走出去”战略的进一步实施,对外直接投资发展将会更为迅猛,对外直接投资对中国就业的影响也将愈加受到重视。本文通过对外直接投资对母国就业的分析,探讨对外直接投资对母国就业的影响,针对中国的情况进行实证分析并得出相应的结论。
