Acinetobacter species is a non-fermentative aerobic gram-negative coccobacillus that is an important pathogen found in nosocomial infections. Recently, multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) infections have been increasing and pose a serious problem. Most such infections present as bacteremia, pneumonia, or a wound infection; however, CNS infections are very rare. We herein present a case of ventriculitis caused by MDR-AB in a 37-year old man after a neurosurgical intervention. The patient was successfully treated with intrathecal colistimethate.

Objectives : Impaired processing of facial information is one of the broad ranges of cognitive deficits seen in patients with Schi-zophrenia. We aimed to elucidate the differences in brain activities involved in the process of facial working memory between schizophrenic patients and healthy comparison subjects. Methods : Twelve patients with schizophrenia were recruited along with twelve demographically matched healthy volunteers as a comparison group. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to assess cortical activities during the Perfor-mance of a 2-back working memory paradigm using images of neutral faces as mnemonic content. Rcsults : The patient group performed the tasks with reduced accuracy. Group analysis revealed that the left fusiform gyrus, the right superior frontal gyrus, the bilateral middle frontal gyri/insula, the left middle temporal gyrus, the precuneus, the quadrangular lobules and the vermis of cerebellum showed decreased cortical activities in the patient group. On the other hand, an increased level of activation in the lateral prefrontal cortex and the pahetal lobule was observed from the patient group, all in the right hemisphere. Conulusion : A decreased level of activity in the left fusiform gyrus among the patient group implicates inefficient processing of facial information. An increased level of activation in prefrontal and parietal neural networks from the patient group confirms earlier findings on the impaired working memory of patients with schizophrenia.

This study is carried out to investigate the water quality change trends in Pusan Metropolitan streams. The temperature of the streams are moderate except in winter period and this can be explained by the Korean meterological characteristics. The pH does not vary by the time but some points are a little low. BOD_(5) and COD_(Mn), the index of water contaminants, be shown as characteristic domestic waste water patterns. The nutrient matters, such as total nitrogen and total phosphate, are appeared to be low. The chronic water quality, as BOD_(5) and COD_(Mn), shows that the loading rates in 1998 are smaller than the past(1983, 1992). Some points show a little high loading in autumn, but this needs more investigation to make clear the cause(s).

The purpose of this study is to conduct an empirical analysis on differences in perspectives regarding background variables affecting dance-sport game decisions(including the referee's fairness, credibility, and possible misjudgement) and to provide fundamental information to help with fair game handling. The result of the analysis is as follows: First, all aspects such as fairness, partiality, and wrong decisions showed significant differences (p<.001) among groups after carrying out a comparative analysis on different perspectives regarding the influence of athlete and referee groups on the decision-making aspect. Second, fairness showed significant differences between male and female athletes (p<.01) after carrying out a comparative analysis on different perspectives regarding decision-making influences between different sex. Third, fairness (p<.05) and partiality (p<.01) showed significant differences among groups after carrying out a comparative analysis on different perspectives regarding the influence of different athletic divisions on the decision-making aspect. Fourth, fairness (p<.05) and partiality (p<.001) showed significant differences among groups after carrying out a comparative analysis on different perspectives regarding the influence of the athlete's different status (amateurs or professionals) as on the decision-making aspect. Fifth, fairness and partiality (p<.001 respectively) showed significant differences after conducting a comparative anlysis on different perspectives regarding the influence of the athlete's experience on the decision-making aspect. Mobile nodes in ad hoc mobile networks typically communicate over wireless channels and are capable of movement. These are networks that support multihop communication and can be formed on a temporary basis. This paper proposes a solution that allows mobile nodes to access the wired Internet and to roam from base station to base station. And we also develop the efficient method that adapts in Global MANET which can be changed over time. It is observed that we can reduce not only error detection time but also network load, thus increasing the data reception rate in Global MANET Environment.

Conceptual Study for Tissue-Regenerative Biodegradable Magnesium Implant Integrated with Nitric Oxide-Releasing Nanofi bers

The excessive initial corrosion rate of Mg is a critical limitation in the clinical application of biodegradable Mg implantsbecause the device loses its fi xation strength before the fractured bone heals. This study suggests a new approach to overcomethis hurdle by accelerating tissue regeneration instead of delaying the implant biodegradation. As angiogenesis is anessential process in early bone regeneration, a Mg implant coated with electrospun nanofi bers containing nitric oxide (NO),which physiologically promotes angiogenesis, is designed. The integrated device enables adjustable amounts of NO to bestored on the NO donor-conjugated nanofi ber coating, stably delivered, and released to the fractured bone tissue near theimplanted sites. An in vitro corrosion test reveals no adverse eff ect of the released NO on the corrosion behavior of the Mgimplant. Simultaneously, the optimal concentration level of NO released from the implant signifi cantly enhances tube networkformation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells without any cytotoxicity problem. This indicates that angiogenesis canbe accelerated by combining NO-releasing nanofi bers with a Mg implant. With its proven feasibility, the proposed approachcould be a novel solution for the initial stability problem of biodegradable Mg implants, leading to successful bone fi xation.

This study was conducted to investigate the pasting properties of waxy corn ‘Ilmichal’ during ripening with different sowing date. Starch content of Ilmichal was increased as matured (p<0.05). Analysis of pasting properties with waxy corn starch using a rapid visco analyser (RVA) showed linear changes in peak viscosity, trough viscosity, final viscosity, breakdown and consistency according to ripening. There were significantly positive correlation between starch content of Ilmichal and peak viscosity (0.39*), trough viscosity (0.58***), final viscosity (0.58***), and consistency (0.57**). Differential scanning calorimerty (DSC). The enthalpy of gelatinization was increased as ripening. But onset and peak temperature were decreased. There were significantly positive correlation between starch content of Ilmichal and onset temperature (0.44*), peak temperature (0.38*), and completion temperature (0.59***), on the other hand, crude protein content presented significantly negative correlation between completion temperature (-0.41*).

A CFD simulation of airflow and temperature filed in a heated room has been described in this paper. The thermal wall jet created by a radiator greatly influences the airflow pattern, temperature distribution. The area close to a heat source has a high risk of air-borne contamination and imposes a harmful effect on occupants in that area. The predicted flow field, temperature results show good agreement with the measured data. As the results were compared with experimental data. the applicability of CFD was satisfactorily verified. Also, the CFD simulation can capture the natural convective flow features. If a CFD simulation is applied ventilation design with a heat source, An effective design will be attained. Further study is required to improve the accuracy of CFD simulation.

심전도에서 조기재분극을 보인 특발성 심실세동

Early repolarization is a common electrocardiographic (ECG) feature found in young adults, men and athletes, and has been considered to be a benign feature for the last several decades. But recent studies suggest that early repolarization may be related to idiopathic ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. We report a young man, 35 years old, who had life threatening ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac arrest. He was evaluated for cardiac causes of ventricular fibrillation. There was no explanation other than that his ECG showed an early repolarization pattern so we treated him with implantable cardioverter defibrillator. Thus, we suggest that early repolarization may be related with life threatening ventricular arrhythmia.
