Objectives : In this study, the authors evaluated the correlation between eurocognitive impairments and serum lipids levels among Korean elderly over the age of 65. Methods : A total of 609 elderly individuals participated in this study. Screening for cognitive impairments were carried out using the Mini-Mental Status Examination-Korean version (MMSE-KC). There were 197 subjects above 1.5SD Of MMSE- KC and they were evaluated using the Korean versions of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) (CERAD-KC) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-K). Results : There was a correlation between old age/low levels of education and AD (p<0.05, P<0.01). There was an inverse correlation between the serum level of total cholesterol and the word list recognition test scores. The serum levels of LDL cholesterol were inversely correlated with the scores on the constructional praxis test, word list recall test and word list recognition test. Inverse correlations between the serum level of triglyceride and scores on the word list recall test and word list recognition test were also observed. Conclusion : There were inverse correlations between the serum levels of lipids and language/memory function in subjects with AD.

CD34+ 조혈 모세포 이식 2례

Background: In most solid tumors, the CD34 antigen has not been detected, so positive selection of CD34+ cells may reduce tumor cell contamination and the CD34+ cells are capable of reconstituting hematopoiesis. We tried CD34+ cell transplantation in two patients. Method: CD34+ cells from chemotherapy + G-CSF mobilized PBPCs or bone marrow were positively selected with an avidin-biotin immunoadsorption column (CEPRATE SC system). Case 1. One course of chemotherapy using cyclophosphamide(200㎎/㎡) and etoposide (4.2g/㎡), combined with G-CSF(5㎍/㎏) S.C. was used in a relapsed lymphoma patient. This patient responded to the induction chemotherapy. CD34+ cells from harvested bone marrow were selected by the CellPro immunoadsorption column. The total number of mononuclear cells loaded onto the CellPro was 2.4×10^(8)/㎏, with 1.1% CD34+ cells. After column separation, the total number of positively selected cells was 5.16×10^(6)/㎏. The number of CFU-GM was 76.8×10⁴/㎏. This patient was treated with melphalan (140㎎/㎡) and TBI (1200cGy) and the positively selected CD34+ cells were infused. The time to neutrophil recovery greater than 0.5×10^(9)/L was 19 days and the time to platelet recovery greater than 50×10^(9)/L was 21 days. Case 2. Two courses of mobilizing chemotherapy were given 4 weeks apart using taxol(210㎎/m2) and adriamycin(60㎎/m2), combined with G-CSF(5㎍/㎏) S.C. in a breast cancer patients with 7 axillary node metastasis. CD34+ cells from each single leukapheresis product were selected by the CellPro immunoadsorption column. In the first collection, the total number of nucleated cells was 4.4×10^(8)/kg, with 0.42% CD34+ cells. In the second collection, the total number of nucleated cell was 2.8× 10^(8)/㎏ with 0.43% CD34+ cells. After colum separation, the total numbers of collected cells were 4.0×106/kg and 4.8×10^(6)/kg, the total number of CD34+ cells were 1.2×10^(6)/㎏ and 0.82×10^(6)/㎏. Colonogenic assays of positively selected CD34+ cells gave rise to myeloid erythroid, and multilineage colonies, with a median of 190 CFU-GM, 190 BFU-E, and 164 CFU-GEMM per 1×10³ adsorbed cells, respectively. High-dose chemotherapy with cumulative doses of 40mg/㎡ mitoxantrone, 750mg/㎡ thioptepa, and 1000mg/㎡ carboplatin was administered. Positively selected CD34+ cells were rapidly infused 24 hours after the end of high-dose chemotherapy. The time to neutrophil recovery greater than 0.5×10^(9)/L was 16 days and the time to platelet recovery greater than 50×10^(9)/L was 20 days.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

한국재래오골계의 난구성분 및 난질의 유전모수추정

This study was conducted to estimate heritabilities and genetic correlation on egg compositions and egg qualities in Korean Native Ogol fowl. The data analysis were a total of 58,320 eggs in 450 pul-lets produced from 150 dams and 20 sires of Korean Native Ogol fowl raised at Chungnam National University from June 18,1987 to April 6,1989. The results as obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The heritability estimates of egg compositions based on the variance of sires, dams and combine com-ponents were 0.620~0.723, 0.206~0.300 and 0.413~-0.511 for albumen weight : 0.439~0.737, 0.484~0.544 and 0.492~0.615 for yolk weight : 0.172~0.187, 0.412~0.642 and 0.390~0.503 for Haught units. 2. The heritabilities estimates of egg qualities based on the variance of sires, dams and combined com-ponents were 0.202~0.279, 0.557-0.819 and 0.428-0.508 for shell thickness : 0.202-0.394, 0.119-0.678 and 0.256~0.440 for albumen height : 0.108~0.443, 0.237~0.698 and 0.254-0.399 for Haught units. 3. The genetic and phenotypic correlations of egg compositions were as follows ; The coefficients be-tween albumen weight and yolk weight were 0.089-0.564 and 0.084-0.235 ; between albumen weight and shell weight were 0.396~0.925 and 0.225~0.544 ; between yolk weight and shell weight were 0.220~0.357 and 0.098-0.358, respectively. 4. The genetic and phenotypic correlation as follows ; between shell thickness and albumen height were 0.082-0.356 and -0.163-0.060 ; between shell thickness and Haught units were -0.076~0.167 and -0.185-0.010 ; between albumen height and Haught units were 0.338-0.604 and 0.154~0.285, respectively. 5. The genetic correlation of egg compositions and egg qualities were as follows: between albumen weight and shell thickness, albumen height, Haught units were -0.380~-0.002, 0.239-0.387, and -0.279~-0.127; between yolk weight and shell thickness, albumen height, Haught units were -0,049~0.133 and -0.196~-0.136; between shell weight and shell thickness, -0.294~-0.133, albumen height, Haught units were 0.127~0.476, 0.140~0.273 and 0.038~0.233, respectively.

Dioxin류의 반응에 대한 분자궤도함수론적 연구 : dibenzo-p-dioxin, 2,7-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, dibenzofuran, 2,8-dichlorodibenzofuran 중심으로

Molecular orbital studies for dibenzo-p-dioxin, 2,7-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, dibenzofuran and 2,8-dichlorodibenzofuran were carried out by semiempirical PM3 method. Reaction sites for nucleophilic, electrophilic and radical reaction of dioxins were predicted and discussed by MO studies. The values of approximated superdelocalizability were 0.7802, 0.2686, 0.3104, 0.1982 for the above dioxins, respectively. And reported rate constant for the reaction of dioxins with OH radical (Eitzer et. al.. Environ, Sci. Technol. 1989, 23, 1389) was well correlated with approximated superdelocalizability.

멀티미디어 프로그램이 초등학생들의 자연과 학습성취도 및 과학에 대한 태도 변화에 미치는 효과

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) program in Multimedia Environment on science achievement and attitude toward the science of the fifth grade students in elementary school when the multimedia program about the change of the weather in the field of earth science was applied to the general classroom circumstances(just noe computer and a large group made of over the forty students) The results were; 1. There were meaningful differences in the learning achievement levels between the class which learned science through the CAI program in multimedia environment and the class which learned science through the traditional method of lecture (F=4.854 p<.05) 2. There weren't any meaningful differences in the effect on the learning achievement levels of the multimedia program according to the learning level of the class (The class A which learned science through the CAI program in multimedia environment : F=.025 p> .05, The class B which learned science through the CAI program in multimedia environment : F=1.630 p> .05). 3. There were no meaningful differences in the attitude toward the science between the class which learned the science through the CAI program in multimedia environment and the class which learned science though the traditional method of lecture(F=.588 p> .05). As the results of this study, there were meaningful differences in the learning achievement levels when the multimedia program about the change of the weather in the elementary science of the fifth grade was was applied to the general classroom circumstances than it was applied to the traditional science classes. But there were no meaningful differences in the change of the learning achievement according to the difference of the learning level and the attitude toward science.

Immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography(IMAC)를 이용한 His-tagged B^30-homoserine 인슐린 전구체의 rapid one-step 분리 정제

To purify His tagged B^30-homoserine insulin precursor from recombinant E. coli using a rapid single-step purification method, immobilized Ni^2+ -affinity chromatography which has been widely used to purify genetically fused to the interest protein was used. His tagged B^30-homoserine insulin precursor, molecular weight 9KDa, expression was accomplished by IPTG induction on pellet centrifuged of flask and batch broth and confirmed by SDS-PAGE either. It showed that recombinant protein is expressed as inclusion body. His-tagged B^30-homoserine insulin precursor which chelated with Ni^2+ metal ion was eluted lX Elution buffer, pH7.9 including 6M Urea with 1000mM imidazole. His tagged B^30-homoserine insulin precursor band was ascertained by SDS-PAGE with freeze dried powder obtained from lX Elution buffer extract.

"IKUTON" 醱酵 고구마 澱粉粕의 養豚飼料 代替에 關한 硏究

Study was conducted to estimate the nutritional effect of substitution levels of "IKUTON" (R) inocculate fermented sweet potato pulp for the growing-finnishing pig rations. Twenty five Large white X Landrace cross-breed (15 kg), mixed sex were used in group feeding at the substitution levels of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40%. The results obtained were summarized as follow: Voluntary feed intake of experimental diets was lowest in 40%. No significant difference in voluntary feed intake was found in 10, 20, and 30% levels except 40%P<0.05). The feed efficiency was highest in 20%; (3.43), 30%;(3.80), 10%; (3.97), control; (4.53), and 40%; (4.20) respectively. There was tendency toward increasing feed efficiency in 10, 20, 30% levels than control. However, the lowest feed efficiency was found in 40% level. The weeks required to gain 80 kg of live weight were 12 weeks for 10%, 13 weeks for control, 14 weeks for 20%, and 30%, but in 40% level of substitution, no 80kg live weight was found up to the end of experiment (15 weeks). Pigs in 40% level were gained live weight only 64% of control animals. The digestibility of experimental diets was 75.2-78.5%, and water intake per kg dry matter intake was 1.95-2.01ℓ. No significant effects of feed offer interval to the digestibility and water consumption.

미드의 白我理論과 社會科敎育

The goal of social studies is to develop the democratic citizenship of the students. And that democratic citizenship means the self of the person in a democracy. So, the goal of social studies is to make students take the role of the generatized other. According to Mead, the self arises from the social organization to which it belongs, while the social organization reflects the self. The self is not initially there, at birth, but arises in the process of social experience and activity, that is, develops in the given individual as a result of his relations to that process as a whole and to other individuals within that process. A person is a personality because he belongs to a community, because he takes over the institutions of that community into his own conduct. He takes its language as a medium by which he gets his personality, and then through a process of taking the different roles that all the others furnish he comes to get the attitude of the members of the community. He continually takes the attitudes of the others about him, especially the roles of those who in some sense control him and on whom he depends. Such Mead's Theory of self implies very important points to the social studies education. First, the teacher should make the students know that he really expects the students to be democratic and moral beings, because the students take the attitude of the teacher on whom they depend. Second, the students should continually be asked to put themselves in the place of the generalized other, because the only way to learn to take the attitude of the other is to engage in taking that of the other. Only this approach in social studies education will affect the citizenship and the self of the students.
