This paper presents a new scheme for uplink SIMO CDMA/TDD System, where Pre-RAKE diversity combining and new orthogonal spreading sequences are used at a terminal and simple space-time array receiver configuration is used at a base station. Adopting so called zero correlation duration(ZCD) spreading code, chip-level beamformer (CLB) array antenna configuration, and matched filter detection, the proposed SIMO system is shown to be practically feasible with good hardware efficiency and high receive SINR performance.

This study investigates the seismic behavior of architectural masonry veneer walls reinforced with specific reinforcement details proposed by this study. For this purpose, experimental tests were conducted using one un-reinforced masonry (URM) wall specimen and three reinforced masonry (RM) wall specimens under quasi static cyclic loads. The test variable is wall aspect ratios. Comparing the test results with performance levels specified in FEMA 273, the URM wall specimen did not satisfy a drift limit for the life safety (LS) performance level whereas the specimen satisfied the drift limit for the immediate occupancy (IO) performance level. In contrast, the RM specimens satisfied drift limits for LS as well as IO performance levels irrespective of wall aspect ratios.

Persistent left superior vena cava(PLSVC) derives from abnormally persistent patency of an embryological vessel normally present during the early developmental period. The incidence of PLSVC is 0.3% in healty persons, 4.8% in patients with congenital heart anomaly. Most of the patients with PLSVC have normal right superior vena cava (RSVC), but PLSVC plus absent RSVC is very rare, especially in those without congenital heart anomalies. We experienced a case of PLSVC and absent RSVC during an insertion of internal jugular venous catheter for acute hemodialysis. A 53-year-old female was admitted due to uremia for initiation of dialytic therapy. She had long history of diabetic nephropathy but without congenital heart anomalies. We inserted a dual lumen catheter for acute hemodialysis via right internal jugular vein. On the chest x-ray film taken after the insertion of the catheter, we detected unusual course of the catheter curved to the left. PLSVC and absent RSVC was confirmed by normal saline contrast echocardiography and CT angiograpy.

연구배경:당뇨병에서 산화 스트레스의 증가에 따른 지질 과산화는 혈관 합병증의 발생과도 연관된다고 알려져 있다. 당뇨병에서 증가된 산화 스트레스가 산화 손상 및 합병증 발생의 중요한 기전이라면 항산화제 투여로 당뇨병의 합병증이 예방되거나 진행이 지연될 가능성이 있다. 최근 홍삼이 내피세포에서 NO 합성을 증가시키고 하이드록시 라디칼과 반응하여 제거함으로써 유리 라디칼 연쇄반응을 억제하는 항산화 작용이 있음이 보고되었다. 본 연구에서는 홍삼이 당뇨병에서 지질 과산화를 억제할 수 있는지 알아 보고자 하였다. 방법:시험관내에서 인지질 리포솜 지질의 철이온에 의한 과산화에 대한 홍삼정(red ginseng extract)의 영향을 알아 보았다. 또한 생체내에서 홍삼이 당뇨병시 지질 과산화에 미치는 영향을 알아 보고자 STZ으로 당뇨병을 유발할 백서에서 홍삼정(1g/L in drinking water)을 12주간 투여한 후 혈장과 간, 신장 및 심장 조직의 지질 과산화물을 측정하여 당뇨병 대조군과 비교하였다. 결과:홍삼정은 in vitro에서 인지질 리포솜 지질의 철이온에 의한 과산화와 저밀도지단백 지질의 구리이온에 의한 과산화를 억제하였다. 혈장 MDA 농도는 STZ유발 당뇨병군에서 정상 대조군보다 약 2배로 높았고, 12주간 홍삼 투여 당뇨군은 비투여 당뇨군에 비해 유의하게 41%낮았다. 간, 신장 및 심장 조직의 MDA 농도는 STZ유발 당뇨병군에서 정상 대조군보다 모두 유의하게 높았고, 12주간 홍삼 투요 당뇨군은 비투여 당뇨군에 비해 각각 17%, 14% 및 30% 유의성 있게 낮았다. 결론:본 연구에서는 당뇨병 백서에서 홍삼정을 투여하여 혈장과 간, 신장 및 심장 조직에서 지질 과산화물이 감소함을 관찰하였고, 시험관내에서도 홍삼정이 인지질 리포솜이나 저밀도지단백의 지질 과산화를 억제하는 작용이 있음을 관찰하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 홍삼이 당뇨병에서 산화적 손상을 줄이고 만성 합병증의 발생이나 진행을 지연시킬 가능성을 시사한다. Background : Diabetes mellitus is postulated to be associated with increased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation which may contributo to vascular complications. Recently ginseng (Panax) has been shown to have an antioxidant effect by enhancing nitric oxide synthesis in endothelial cells and by directly scavenging hydroxyl radicals. It is unknown whether ginseng might act as an antioxidant against lipid peroxidation in diabetes. Methods : We studied the in vitro effect of red ginseng extract on lipid peroxidation employing phospholipid liposome and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) as a model system. To investigate the in vivo effect on lipid peroxidation in diabetes, we administered red ginseng extract (1g/L in drinking water) to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats for 12 weeks and measured lipid peroxidation products in plasma, liver, kidneys and heart. Results : The Fe^3+ - or Cu^2+ - mediated lipid peroxidation in phospholipid liposome and LDL, measured by the concentration of TBARS, was inhibited in the presence of red ginseng extract. MDA level in plasma measured by HPLC was higher in STZ-induced diabetic rats than in control rats. Plasma MDA level was lower by 41% in red ginseng-treated diabetic rats than in untreated diabetic rats. Tissue MDA levels measured by TBA method in liver, kidneys and heart were higher in STZ-induced diabetic rats than in control rats. In red ginseng-treated diabetic rats tissue MDA levels were lower by 14 ~ 30% than in untreated diabetic rats. Conclusion : We observed that red ginseng extract has an effect in inhibiting lipid peroxidation both in vitro and in STZ-induced diabetic rats. These results suggest that red ginseng might have a beneficial effect in diabetes as an antioxidant against lipid peroxidation and diabetic vascular complications (J Kor Diabetes Asso 25:374~383, 2001).
