        전남 농공단지 폐수처리장 방류수의 화학적/생물학적 독성평가

        본 연구는 영산강유역 농공폐수처리장 방류수중의 유기오염물질 분포를 관찰하였다. 시료채취 지점은 영산강 유역에 존재하는 4지점의 농공단지 폐수처리장을 선정하였다. 본 연구에서 GC-Ion trap MS로 300종의 일반적인 화학물질을 ppt수준에서 검출할 수 있는 방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 농공폐수처리방류수에서 검출된 주요 유기오염물질은 농약류, CH구조의 방향족, CHO구조의 프탈레이트류, 그리고 CHO(N) 구조의 아로메틱 아민류였다. 또한 diethylphthalate를 포함한 17종의 내분비계장애물질이 검출되었다. XTT assay를 이용한 세포독성 결과는 TV로 나타냈으며, 그들의 세포독성은 A지점에서 27.2, D지점에서 24.4로 가장 높게 나타났다. 한편 화학적 분석 결과와 생물학적 독성도와는 일치하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the distributive property of organic pollutants in effluents of argo/industrial wastewater treatment plants in Jeonnam using simultaneous analysis method of 310 chemicals. The numerous organic pollutants were detected in four sampling sites and the major chemicals were pesticides, CH type chemicals such as polycyclic compounds, CHO type chemicals such as phthalates, and CHO(N) type chemical such as aromatic amines. Moreover, 17 kinds of endocrine disrupters which include diethylptbalate were detected in each sampling sites. TU (Toxic unit) indicated cytotoxicity of samples using XTT assay, it appeared highly at A point(27.2) and D point(24.4). Also, the results from the correlation between total concentration of pollutants and TU did not correspond to the results of chemical and biological analysis.

        라오스의 벼 생산 현황과 문제점

        Rice is the single most important crop in Lao PDR. In the 2000 rice production year, total rice production in the Laos reached 2.2 million tons. This is regarded as sufficient to provide national self-sufficiency. The rice harvested area in 2000 was approximately 719,500ha and represented 80% of cropped land area. Approximately 82% of production was from wet season cropped and 18% was from the irrigated dry season. Grain yield per unit area vary from 1.68 to 4.39 ton/ha in the wet season environment. However, the highest grain yield (4.39 ton/ha) obtained from the dry season irrigated crop. Higher yields and reduced year variation in production can be expected with the further intensification of production systems in the low land environments. However, further imporvements in production will be dependent on higher levels of inputs and further alleviation of some the production constraints.

        P2X2 Receptor Activation Potentiates PC12 Cell Differentiation Induced by ACAP in Acidic Environments

        P2X receptors are membrane-bound ion channels that conduct Na+, K+, and Ca2+ in response to ATP and its analogs. There are seven subunits identified so far (P2X1-P2X7). P2X2 receptors are known to be expressed in a wide range of organs including brains and adrenal grands. PC12 cells are originated from adrenal grand and differentiated by nerve growth factor or pituitary adenylate cyclase activating poly peptide (PACAP). Previous studies indicate that P2X2 receptor activation in PC12 cells couples to Ca2+-dependent release of catecholamine and ATP. It is known that acidic pH potentiates ATP currents at P2X2 receptors. This leads to a hypothesis that P2X2 receptors may play an important role in PC12 cell differentiation, one of the characteristics of which is neurite outgrowth, induced by the hormones under lower pH. In the present study, we isolated several clones which potentiate neurite outgrowth by PACAP in acidic pH (6.8), but not in alkaline pH (7.6). RT-PCR and electrophysiology data indicate that these clones express only functional P2X2 receptors in the absence or presence of PACAP for 3 days. Potentiation of neurite outgrowth resulted from PACAP (100 nM) in acidic pH is inhibited by the two P2X receptor antagonists, suramin and PPADS (100 μM each), and exogenous exprerssion of ATP-binding mutant P2X2 receptor subunit (P2X2[K69A]). However, acid sensing ion channels (ASICs) are not involved in PACAP-induced neurite outgrowth potentiation in lower pH since treatments of an inhibitor of ASICs, amyloride (10 μM), did not give any effects to neurite extension. The vesicular proton pump (H+-ATPase) inhibitor, bafilomycin (100 nM), reduced neurite extension indicating that ATP release resulted from P2X2 receptor activation in PC12 cells is needed for neurite outgrowth. These were confirmed by activation of mitogen activated protein kinases, such as ERKs and p38. These results suggest roles of ATP and P2X2 receptors in hormoneinduced cell differentiation or neuronal synaptogenesis in local acidic environments.

        In this paper, an IFA type qwerty-phone antenna is designed and implemented. The proposed antenna operates at CDMA/ GSM/ PCS/ USPCS/ DCS 5 bands. Ansoft HFSS simulation tool is used for design. Measurements at the open and closed environments are performed by a network analyzer and anechoic chamber. The proposed antenna has an isotropic radiation pattern which is very essential characteristics for mobile devices. Average gains and antenna efficiencies are –5.76 ∼ -1.25dBi and 26.57 ∼ 74.93% respectively over the desired bands.

        Production of Interleukin-5, Interleukin-13 and Interferon-γ in Peripheral Blood CD8+ T Cells from Children with Wheezing

        Purpose : Our objective was to investigate the role of CD8+ T cells in pathogenesis of wheezing in children with atopic nature. Methods : Twelve atopic wheezers, 8 nonatopic wheezers, 8 disease controls and 8 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. We isolated CD8+ T cells from peripheral blood samples, incubated them for 72 hours either in the absence or presence of phytohemagglutinin (PHA) and compared the concentrations of interleukin (IL)-5, IL-13, and interferon (IFN)-γ in the cell culture supernatants. Results : In the atopic wheezer group, the IL-5 concentration was significantly higher after PHA stimulation than after non-stimulated incubation. This difference was not observed in the nonatopic wheezer, disease control and healthy control groups. IL-13 was undetectable in all of the cell culture supernatants. There was no significant difference in the IFN-γ concentration between the PHA-stimulated and non-stimulated conditions in all 4 groups. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that CD8+ T cells may play a role in the pathogenesis of wheezing in children with atopic nature through the production of IL-5.         최근 미국의 잡초성벼 방제 기술

        Weedy rice is a serious problem in direct seeding on dry paddy throughout the world. It is also generated in Korea according to increasing the area of direct seeding cultivation. At this point, we surveyed how to control weedy rice in USA that has far longer history of direct seeding of rice than that of the Korea. In Mississippi, extension service guides rice farmers to rotate soybean and sorghum when weedy rice is spread in the rice field. They have chemical control programs based on three-year rotation (soybean- soybean-rice or sorghum-sorghum-rice). Transgenic glufosinate resistant rice is studied jointly by researchers in Arkansas and Louisiana State University. The transformed varieties have a gene to Liberty herbicide that killed virtually all of the non-transformed rice. For the practical use of this variety, it is need that approval by the FDA and that application of Liberty for weed control in rice. Maleic hydrazide (MH) has been used for reducing red rice in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Rice is very susceptible to the chemical (MH) during the heading and preheading stages. If this chemical is applied when the commercial rice has maturing stage and weedy rice has heading or preheading stage, seed suppression of weedy rice is in excess of 90 to 95 percent.
