. Throughout his regime, Rhee Syngman is known for consistent claim of ‘March to North unification’ theme in various direction. It affected not only Korean politics, but Korea-US relations and UN’s discussion of the Korean problem. Even though ‘March to North’ was a powerful ideology of Rhee era, scholars saw it as a political slogan or negotiating leverage on US. But these approaches lacks explanation why Rhee abundantly stick to his claim, even after Korea and US agreed on the conclusion of ROK-US mutual defense treaty. Also, it has not been analyzed how Rhee’s claim affected international community’s discussion of the Korean problem. This treatise focus on Rhee’s perceptions and views behind ‘March to North’ claim, so as to understand why Rhee even risked a rupture of relations with US. By analyzing letters between Rhee and his close aide, this treatise asserts that Rhee’s anti-communism belief was a key factor of ‘March to North’ claim in conjunction with his understanding of the Cold war and international situation of East Asia. This treatise also argues that ‘March to North’ theme was the diplomatic strategy of Korea at 1954 Geneva conference. It was Rhee’s policy not to consent to any other resolutions of US and participating parties, unless they ‘respect’ Rhee’s perception of the Korean problem. It was an detrimental strategy to Korea’s national interest, rather than a leverage on US.
Production, Isolation and Biological Activity of Nargenicin from Nocardia sp. CS682

Culture broth of an actinomycete isolate, Nocardia sp. CS682 showed specifically higher antibacterial activity against methicilin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Purified substance from the organism, CS-682, which is active against MRSA and Micrococcus leuteus, is a C28H37NO8 (M+H+, observed: 516.83) and identified as an unusual macrolide antibiotic, nargenicin. The chemical structure of CS-682 was identified by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and (¹H-¹H and ¹H-13H) COSY. The anti-MRSA activity of CS-682 was stronger than that of oxacillin, vancomycin, monensin, erythromycin, and spiramycin. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain CS682 is closely related to Nocardia tenerifensis DSM 44704T (98.7% sequence similarity), followed by N. brasiliensis ATCC 19296T (98.4% sequence similarity). The ability of Nocardia sp. CS682 to produce nargenicin was unique.

Background: The efficacy of two artificial tears, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and hyaluronate (HA), was com-pared in the treatment of patients with dry eye disease.Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on randomized controlled trials in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases. The efficacy was compared in terms of the mean change from baseline in tear break-up time. The meta-analysis was conducted using both random and fixed effect models. The quality of the selected studies was assessed for risk of bias.Results: Five studies were included involving 251 participants. Random effect model meta-analysis showed no sig-nificant difference between CMC and HA in treating dry eye disease (pooled standardized mean difference [SMD]=-0.452; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.911 to 0.007; P=0.053). In contrast, fixed effect model meta-analysis revealed significant improvements in the CMC group when compared to the HA group (pooled SMD=-0.334; 95% CI, -0.588 to -0.081; P=0.010).Conclusion: The efficacy of CMC appeared to be better than that of HA in treating dry eye disease, although meta-analysis results were not statistically significant. Further research is needed to better elucidate the difference in effi-cacy between CMC and HA in treating dry eye disease.
Streptomyces에서 생산되는 Deoxy 혹은 Dideoxyhexose를 포함하는 천연화합물의 생합성 유전자를 찾기 위한 연구

Streptomyces에서 생산되는 생물학적 활찰성이 높은 데옥시 혹은 디데옥시당을 포함하는 천연화합물의 생합성 과정에는 반드시 산화환원효소가 관여한다. 현재 알려저 있는 산화환원효소 펩타이드를 비교하여 그 중 유사성이 높은 영역으로부터 PCR(polymerase chain reaction) primer를 합성하였다. 합성된primer와 6가지 균주의 total DNA를 template로 하여 PCR로 부터 모두 DNA probe로 사용할 수 있는 산화환원효소 PCR 유전자를 얻었다 그 중 2개는DNA 분석에 의해 산화환원효소 유전자임을 밝혔으며, 이 유전자 주위를Southern blot 실험과 DNA 분석으로 생합성 유전자가 집단으로 존재함을 보여주고 있다. 이 방법은 데옥시 혹은 디데옥시당을 포함하는 항생제 및 항암제의 생합성 유전자를 언근 일반적인 방법임을 제시한다.

In the ubiquitous computing environment, service providers should able to deliver their services to various devices, such as PDA, Smart Phone, Telematics devices. For this purpose, W3C announced 'Composite Capabilities / Preference Profile (CC/PP) Standard' for delivery-context description. At present, only a small number of mobile phone supports the CC/PP standard, But most of contents servers do not. In this paper, by analyzing request headers which are received from various ubiquitous devices, a rule-based CC/PP profiling method in ubiquitous environment is developed. Service providers can use these profiles for providing optimized services to the various devices which have different capabilities.
