A plane wave expansion method (PWEM) was applied for photonic band structure calculation. We examined zero group velocity modes in photonic crystal. The zero group velocity modes were obtained at the second band along F-K direction. We expanded higher order Brillouin zone (BZ) to find the locations of zero group velocity modes and to investicate their properties. We found twelve locations, inside the first Brillouin zone, where the group velocities became zero. Also, we calculated band structure and group velocity in off-plane configuration.

A total of 335 pediatric inguinal hernias were analyzed at the Department of General Surgery, St. Benedict Hospital, for last 10 years (1986 to 1995). Male patients were predominant(2.25 : 1), and 78.2 % were under 2 years of age. Right side was 1.63 times more frequent than the left. Among the 19 cases of incarcerated hernias, 84 % could be safely reduced preoperatively. Twelve cases(3.6 %) were repaired by the Bassini procedure and 21 cases(6.3 %) by internal ring repair. The majority (90.1 %) however did not require a posterior wall reconstruction. Bilaterality was found in 25 cases(7.5 %), and in 8 cases(2.4 %) subsequent contralateral hernia developed after primary ipsilateral repair. Postoperative complication occurred in 15 cases(4.5 %); scrotal seroma and/or hematoma(3%), wound infection(0.6 %), and pneumonia(0.9 %). In order to reduce the incidents of complications, children with inguinal hernias should be treated by a pediatric surgeon.

Purpose: Rebound tonometer has been used to measure the intraocular pressure (IOP) in the supine as well as normal upright positions. We investigated the reliability of IOP measurements using the rebound tonometer in the upright and supine positions. Methods: IOP was measured in 30 patients (60 eyes) with open-angle glaucoma who had no history of ocular surgery and no anterior segment pathology, in both the upright and supine positions using rebound tonometer (IcarePRO; Icare Finland Oy, Finland). The average IOP value after 6 measurements was recorded. We measured IOP repeatedly until 3 reliable values within normal limits of the measurement’s variation were obtained. We calculated the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), coefficient of variation, and number of repeated measurements necessary to obtain 3 reliable IOP values in each position as measured by one examiner. Results: ICC values for IOP measurements were 0.852 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.784-0.903; p < 0.001) in the upright position and 0.684 (95% CI, 0.563-0.784; p < 0.027) in the supine position. Coefficient of variation was 8.7 ± 0.1% in the upright position and 24.0 ± 0.1% in the supine position. An average of 3.3 times of repeated measurements in the upright position and 6.2 times in the supine position were necessary to obtain 3 reliable IOP values within the normal range of standard deviation. Conclusions: When measuring IOP using the IcarePRO rebound tonometer, the measurement reliability was different between the upright and supine positions. As the information age enters, the use of biometrics using the body is gradually increasing because it is very important to accurately recognize and authenticate each individual's identity for information protection. Among them, finger vein authentication technology is receiving a lot of attention because it is difficult to forge and demodulate, so it has high security, high precision, and easy user acceptance. However, the accuracy may be degraded depending on the algorithm for identification or the surrounding light environment. In this paper, we designed and manufactured a side-type finger vein recognizer that is highly versatile among finger vein measuring devices, and authenticated using the deep learning model of DenseNet-201 for high accuracy and recognition rate. The performance of finger vein authentication technology according to the influence of the infrared light source used and the surrounding visible light was analyzed through simulation. The simulations used data from MMCBNU_6000 of Jeonbuk National University and finger vein images taken directly were used, and the performance were compared and analyzed using the EER. 정보화 시대에 접어들면서 개개인의 신원을 정확하게 인식하여 인증하는 것은 정보 보호를 위해 매우 중요하기 때문에 신체를 활용한 생체인식의 활용이 점차 증가하고 있다. 그중 지정맥 인증 기술은 위조 및 복조하기 어려워 보안성과 정밀도가 높고 사용자 수용성이 용이하여 사회적 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 그러나 신원확인을 위한 알고리즘이나 주변의 빛의 환경에 따라 정확도가 떨어질 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 지정맥 측정 장치 중 활용성이 좋은 측면형 지정맥 인식기를 직접 설계하고 제작하여 높은 정확도와 인식률을 위해 DenseNet-201의 딥러닝 모델을 활용하여 인증하였으며 사용하는 적외선 광원과 주변 가시광선의 영향에 따른 지정맥 인증 기술의 성능을 시뮬레이션을 통해 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션은 전북대의 MMCBNU_6000과 직접 촬영한 지정맥 영상을 사용하고 EER을 이용하여 성능을 비교 분석한다.
