        This paper studies the area studies and the research methodology of the regional studies. What is the regional studies? We have to research what? This paper suggests that the aim of the regional studies is the finding of the regional value. This paper approaches the regional value from three aspects, language, culture, and economy. In the international regional studies, the language plays important role in the finding of the regional value. In the domestic regional studies, the culture respectively plays important role in the finding of the regional value. And in the relation between the regional studies and the regional value, this paper explains three aspects, the regional identity, the locality, and the regional value. In the international regional studies, the regional value has relations with national benefit, in the domestic regional studies, the regional value has relations with regional benefit. And this paper suggests the research methodology of the regional studies, include the theme region and the target region. 본 논문은 지역가치와 지역학의 연구방법론에 대해 연구하고 있다. 지역연구란 무엇인가 이 문제에서부터 출발하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 지역가치의 발견을 언어, 문화, 그리고 경제 세 가지 측면에서 접근하고 있다. 국제지역연구에 있어서는 언어가 지역가치의 발견에 있어서 상대적으로 중요한 역할을 한다. 국내지역연구에 있어서는 문화가 지역가치의 발견에 있어서 상대적으로 중요한 역할을 한다. 그리고 본 논문은 지역학과 지역가치의 관계를 지역정체성, 지역성 그리고 지역가치 세 가지 측면에서 설명하고 있다. 즉 국제지역연구에 있어서 지역가치는 국가의 이익과 밀접한 연관이 있으며, 국내지역연구에 있어서 지역가치는 지역의 이익과 밀접한 연관이 있다. 마지막으로 지역학의 연구방법론을 대상과 지역 그리고 주제와 지역 두 가지 측면에서 제시하고 있다

        대학 교양과목을 통한 지역학에 대한 수강생들의 인식 -역사문화 체험을 중심으로 한 안동학 사례

        This study examined the students' perceptions of regional studies through university liberal arts using a narrative study focusing on the cases in the Andong Study. The research method was conducted through a narrative interview in the 15-week learning process, targeting the students of the regional study (Andong Study) at University A, along with the researcher. As a result of the study, the students were oriented toward establishing a regional identity through the Andong Study classes, and were able to satisfy various cultural needs of the region. In addition, this study promoted emotional exchange among the students, and strengthened human relationships, rather than simply focusing on education itself. Through this intimacy, the students learned about certain regional characteristics, increased their interest in the local community, and raised their sense of belonging to the region. It was confirmed that students from other regions developed attachments through regional study classes and were interested in the popularization and practical use of regional studies. Based on these results, it will be necessary to prepare a place in which students can communicate with various community actors in their respective regions, and to study various and systematic regional educational programs. In the future, it is expected that regional studies will not only go beyond theoretical discussions and/or academic studies, but will also serve as helpful and popular approaches in the local field. 본 연구는 대학 교양과목을 통한 지역학에 대한 수강생들의 인식을 안동학 사례를 중심으로 내러티브 연구를 통해 알아보았다. 연구방법은 본 연구자와 함께 A 대학교에서 지역학(안동학) 수강생을 대상으로 15주 학습과정 속 내러티브 인터뷰를 통해 진행하였다. 연구결과 수강생들은 안동학 수업을 통하여 지역정체성 확립이 지향되었으며, 지역의 다양한 문화적 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있었다. 또한, 정서적 교류를 촉진 시키고 교육 자체보다도 인간적 관계를 돈독하게 하였다. 이러한 친밀감을 통해 지역적 특성을 소유하고 지역사회에 대한 관심이 커지고 지역에 대한 소속감이 높아졌다. 다른 지역 학생들이 지역학 수업을 통하여 애착을 가지게 되었고 지역학의 대중화와 실용화에 관심을 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 학생들이 각 지역의 다양한 지역 사회 활동가들과 소통 할 수 있는 장을 마련하고 다양하고 체계적인 지역 교육 프로그램들을 연구해야 한다. 향후 지역학이 이론적 논의나 학문적 연구로만 그치지 않고 지역 현장에서 도움이 되고 대중적으로 다가갈 수 있는 학문이기를 기대한다.

        지역학의 교양교육 방법론에 대한 연구

        본 논문은 지역학의 교양교육 방법론에 대해서 연구한다. 지역학은 지역성을 기반으로 하는 지역연구를 통칭한다. 공간적인 범위에서 지역학은 국내지역을 연구하는 지역학과 해외지역을 연구하는 지역학으로 구분할 수 있다. 국내지역을 연구하는 지역학은 외국어 조건이 필요하지 않지만 해외지역을 연구하는 지역학은 외국어 조건을 필요로 한다. 따라서 지역학은 언어 즉 외국어와도 관련이 깊다. 외국어는 해외지역학의 필요조건이지 충분조건은 아니다. 대학의 전공 교육에서 지역학은 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 본 연구는 교양교육에서 지역학을 개설할 경우 어떠한 교육방법론이 필요한가에 대해서 고민한다. 전공은 관련 외국어 기반을 필수적으로 요구할 수 있지만 교양에서는 이러한 요구가 반드시 필요한 것은 아니다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 교양에서의 지역학 특히 해외지역학은 외국어보다는 지역성에 더욱 중점을 두는 것을 제안하다. 지역성은 해당 지역을 설명할 수 있는 특성을 말한다. 이러한 특성에는 지역사회, 지역경제, 지역문화, 지역관계, 지역역사, 지역지리 등이 포함될 수 있다. 따라서 지역학은 개념적으로도 융⋅복합적인 학문의 성격을 가진다. 따라서 교양으로서의 지역학은 이와 같은 요소들을 유기적으로 결합하는 역할이 필요하다. 특히 교양교육에서는 이들 요소들이 유기적으로 결합된 지역성에 중점을 두어야 한다. This paper studies the liberal education methodology in area studies. In general, the area studies means the area research which based on the regional specification. From spatial viewpoint, the area studies can divide the domestic area studies and the global area studies. The former don’t need the foreign language, but the latter needs the foreign language, and then the area studies related to the language, especially the foreign language. This paper studies the liberal education methodology when the liberal education curriculum open the area studies. The major’s area studies necessarily need the foreign language, but the liberal education’s area studies don’t need. Therefore, this paper suggests that the liberal education’s area studies not emphasis on the foreign language, not on the regional specifications. The regional specification can explain the region’s characteristics, includes regional society, regional economies, regional culture, regional relation, regional history, and regional geography.

      • ‘대구경북학’의 모색

        대구경북학이 왜 필요한가? 필요하다면 어떻게 하는 것이 좋은가? 이는 그동안 대구경북지역에 대한 오해와 편견을 불식시키고, 자생적, 타생적 편견, 과도하게 왜곡된 정치의식을 바로 잡고, 이 지역 원래의 모습을 되찾으며, 지역의 정신과 지역민의 삶, 그리고 정체성을 되찾는 데서 출발한다. 이는 지역의 미래 발전에 커다란 동력이 될 것으로 생각하며, 어떻게 이런 문제들을 해결할 것인가하는 문제는 대구경북학을 만들어야 하는 필요성과 연결된다. 1990년 초 지자체가 복원됨으로써 지방화시대가 열렸고, 이와 때를 같이 하여 지역학들이 다양한 형태로 나타나게 되었다. 지방과 중앙의 기형적 양대구조를 극복하고, 어떻게 대구 경북의 비젼을 만드는가 등 지방화와 더불어 지역의 정체성을 규명하는 일이 중요한 과제가 되었다. 1990년대에 여러 지역에서 지역학이 활성화되기 시작했다. 대구에서는 지역에 대한 남다른 문제의식으로 1985년에 지방사회연구회가 제일 먼저 조직단위로서 지역연구를 처음 시작하였고 이를 계기로 다른 지역에도 여러 지역연구회가 만들어지게 되면서, 지역학을 만드는 중요한 역할을 해 왔다. 그러나 정작 대구에서는 파편적이고 분파적인 형태로 분산되었고, 학문이나, 센터, 기구로 연결되는 데는 다른 지역보다 뒤진 형태를 보이고 있다. 대구는 폐쇄적이고 가부장적인 특성을 가진 도시로 보여짐으로써 이를 규명하는 일도 대구경북학이 담아내야하는 일이다. Why ‘Daegu-Gyungbuk Studies’ are needed? If it is, how they should be? From the experiences of other regional studies, ‘Daegu-Gyungbuk Studies’ should begin with wipping out existing prejudices and misunderstanding about Daegu-Gyungbuk area which have been gradually formed since last few decades; and debunking and explaining in these long time produced biases, excessively distorted political consciousness on this region: recover and re-finding indigenous features, spirit of community, local life of the people and their identity. All these issues are great energy for driving regional development and the future, so that they give great motivation for building ‘Daegu-Gyungbuk Studies’. Restoring the local autonomy system in the early 1990’s, the era of the localization opened, and local studies have been emerging in many different forms and styles at that time. Moreover it becomes major tasks that examine the identity of local community with the localization, such as dealing successfully with malformed dichotomy between the center and the province, having vision in view for Daegu-Gyungbuk. In 1990’s regional studies began to activate in several regions. The “local-community study group” in Daegu began regional studies as a unit of organization for the first time 1985 with the sharp consciousness of regional issues, which played a determined role for setting up regional studies. Taking this opportunity a few groups of regional studies were organized in other regions. But unfortunately the regional studies in Daegu itself spreaded out in fragmental and partial form and it is now far behind in associating with scholarly attainment, forming regional study center, or organization, at the end. As Daegu is shown with closed and hierarchical character, it is a task for ‘Daegu-Gyungbuk Studies’ to explain those “cliche”, as well.

        근현대 지역사 연구의 현황과 전망

        Recently, the public and the scholars have been getting more and more interested in studies of regional history, especially the history of those regions in modern and contemporary periods. There are several reasons. First, the advent of local self-governments and their administration have been helpful to that rising of interests. Heads of the autonomous local governmental offices who were elected in those regions are generally either very much interested or well-versed in the historical and cultural traditions of the regions they are located in. Second, the historical studies of regions in the early days mostly dealt with the history of social movements, but after the Socialist states collapsed and democracy has fostered in Korea, scholars` interest shifted from examining the history of `movements` to examining the history of the `society`. Third, the first generation of scholars who majored in modern and contemporary historical studies have been hired at local universities since the early 1990s, and armed with their own interests in the local regions` history, they are leading the historical studies of local regions. Fourth, those scholars started to raise questions regarding the general beliefs that in some cases were not really based upon hard evidence or logical explanation. To them, historical studies of local regions are very important in either validating or negating a specific belief that dominated the public`s perception on several issues. And fifth, group studies dealing with interdisciplinary themes and funded by the Korea Research Foundation are in many cases concentrating upon regional historical issues. Regarding the definition of `Regional history`, which term, either `regional history` or `local history`, to be accepted was the main topic in related discussions. But considering the nature of the definition issue and types of studies that have been presented so far, the term should not be determined based upon geographical terms such as `region`, `local area`, or `central`, but rather be determined by the relationship between historical studies of regions and the general Korean history. For types of historical studies of regions, there can be `local history in itself`, or `regional history as case studies`, or `regional history as key historical area studies`. The objective of the first type should be raising the level of understanding of the history of a particular local region. The objective of the second type should be elevating the level of accuracy and verification in many areas of Korean historical studies. The objective of the third type should be deepening our knowledge regarding historical places which served as important stages in the history of the Korean economy or for the movements launched by the Korean people. The primary target of interest in these studies may be the local regions, but those regions have all been involved in important historical events, so results of those studies should contribute to enriching the sheer volume of Korean historical studies. For the past 10 years, studies of regional history in the modern and temporary periods showed huge developments. And the results were announced through special columns in academic journals, books and doctoral dissertations. Each of them differs in individual objectives and methodologies, but they are all continuing under the aforementioned objectives and hopes, and are related to at least one of the three types of studies examined right above. Active studies of the history of local regions should let the public understand and know the history and identity of those regions, and enormously contribute to the development in Korean historical studies.

        국제계열 교육과정에서 「지역이해」 과목의 위상과 정체성 혼란

        본 연구는 국제계열 교육과정에서 대표적인 지리 과목인 지역이해의 위상과 정체성 혼란 과정을 탐구하였다. 지역이해과목의 위상은 교육법 및 교육과정 문서상에서는 점차 낮아졌지만 일선 학교 현장에서는 여전히 중요한 교과로서 지위를 유지하고 있었다. 지역이해 과목의 성격은 7차 교육과정에서 사례지역 탐구 과목으로 설정되었지만, 2007개정 교육과정에서 문명에 대한 이해 과목으로 변경되었고, 2009개정 및 2015개정 교육과정에서 지역에 대한 연구 과목으로 변화되는 등 매 교육과정 시기마다 정체성 혼란을 겪고 있었다. 따라서 지역이해 과목의 위상을 재정립하고 정체성을 확립하기 위해 첫째, 국제계열 교육과정의 목적을 ‘세계 시민 의식을 지닌 국제 관계 및 지역 전문가 양성’으로 재설정하고 이에 맞추어 교과목 구성을 재구조화해야 한다. 둘째, 지역이해는 세계지역지리(혹은 세계문화지리)와 지역 연구 과목으로 분리해야 한다. 셋째, 신지역지리학의 연구 성과를 받아들여 동태적인 지역이해로 전환해야 하며 이를 위해 ‘지역-쟁점’ 중심 내용 구성이 필요하다. This study explored the status and the process of identity confusion of regional studies subject in international studies strand course of national curriculum. Although the status of regional studies subject gradually declined in the education law and the national curriculum document, it was still an important subject in school. And the identity of regional studies subject was confused. In the 7th curriculum, it was set as a case regional study, but in 2007 revision curriculum, changed into a subject of understanding civilization. and in the 2009 revision and 2015 revision curriculum, it changed into the area studies. Therefore, in order to reestablish the status of regional studies subjects and establish their identity, first, the purpose of international studies strand course should be redefined as ’training international relations and regional experts with global citizenship’ and restructuring of the curriculum should be done accordingly. Second, regional studies subject should be divided into global regional geography(or global cultural geography) and area studies subjects. Third, it is necessary to construct ‘regional-issue’ centered contents in order to adopt the results of the new regional geography research and to convert it into a dynamic understanding of the region.

        지역학, 도시 재생의 기제 - 삼척학 연구의 성과와 과제 -

        It was in the 1990s that area studies was established as an academic domain. As the local self-government system symbolizes, the change in the political and economic foundation was a decisive opportunity to develop the category of regional studies based on the search for regionality. For the full-fledged development of Samcheok Studies, an interdisciplinary framework for establishment of specific methodology as well as the establishment of the concept of regional studies, which is the upper category, must first be established. Furthermore, it should be actively appropriated as a dispositif(apparatus) to regenerate a city in danger of extinction. The Samcheok City Council has played a role as a bridgehead for the study of Samcheok Studies. The important thing is to establish a systematic and long-term process within the academy of the local community, such as the relevant university. It is necessary to secure responsible researchers and create an interdisciplinary research framework to promote political content and public communication in the long term. At this point, the formation of the ‘Samcheok Studies Research Center’, which can be free from interference from local administrative agencies, parliaments, and universities, is required again. In the future, through independent and cooperative activities, there is an institutional need to secure the content of Samcheok study as well as the promotion of local figures. If Samcheok Studies can exist, and if it is to prove its existence on the field of real life, away from the violent generalization of Korean Studies, above all, a close nodal unit must be formed through the reproduction of unique local life. Within it, the appropriation of placeness, that is, the academic horizon of embodying the unique regional experience into the universal realm of regional studies will mature. Existing regional studies, including Samcheok studies, are also facing problems despite various achievements. It is expected that a publicly elected organization such as the Samcheok City Council, as a body of authority for the region, will be able to function as a device to preside over and enforce the Samcheok Studies Research Center in the future

        융복합 전공으로서 베트남어 및 지역연구의 구성과 운영에 관한 연구

        The present Korean government is aggressively promoting the “New Look South Policy.” The core of the policy comprises strengthening close ties with the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN). In particular, Vietnam has taken a leading role among the other member countries, as it facilitates a large number of human and economic exchanges with Korea. Accordingly, demands for the Vietnamese language and regional studies on Vietnam are rapidly increasing. In this study, a convergence major, titled “the Vietnamese language and regional studies of Vietnam” is suggested based on the notion that when offered as a convergence major, the program will advance the understanding of the Vietnamese language and Vietnam area and enhance the employment rate of students in Korea. As suggested by its name, this program consists of two parts. One pertains to the Vietnamese language, and the other highlights regional studies on Vietnam. For the portion devoted to the Vietnamese language study, beginner, intermediate and advanced Vietnamese language courses are provided. Four major parts of language learning are focused upon: listening, speaking, reading and writing. From a practical perspective, this program adds the methodology of interpretation and translation studies to language learning to reinforce students’ practical language skills. Alternatively, the other part of the major, which treats regional studies on Vietnam, explores subjects such as Vietnamese politics, economy, society, culture, history, and law, which are included as topics relevant to regional studies. The integrated network comprising the online curriculum (related to Vietnamese language learning and regional studies on Vietnam, recognition and linkage of credits received from other universities and assistance provided by the rules and regulations of governmental entities) should be organized to support and operate this program smoothly. Therefore, a consortium that includes the Ministry of Education, the National Institute for International Education, the Vietnamese language departments in Korean universities and the Korea National Open University should be formed, thereby establishing a platform that enables students to undertake general Vietnamese studies online. The program suggested in this study will serve as a convergence-based methodology to support Korean students in resolving the current challenges of advancing into Vietnam. The program structure can also be applied to other languages addressed in the Act on the Promotion of Education of Critical Foreign Languages.

      • 중국에서 지역학으로서 한국학의 위상 -한국어 교육학의 다양화와 특성화를 위하여

        This article has been discussed about the status of Korean Studies in China beyond the importance of Korean Studies. To this end, I have reviewed the history of Korean Studies, especially the study of Korean Studies in China as a regional study. Through these reviews, I have sought to establish a basis for establishing a new relationship between Korea and China. In addition, I examined the various aspects of Korean Studies as regional studies, namely, the peculiarity of Korean Studies education from an educational point of view, the diversity of Korean education as a regional study, and the case of Korean Studies education in China. Through this discussion, this article discussed the orientation and issues of Korean Studies as a regional study. I want to. Especially, I tried to suggest the diversification and characterization of Korean language education as a foreign language which is the basis of development of Korean Studies in China.

        중국 지방학과 구역문화에 관한 연구

        A Study on Local Studies and Regional Cultural in China Kong, Bong-Jin This paper is a study on ‘Local Studies(地方學)’ and ‘Regional Cultural(區域文化)’ in China. I deal with the classification of ‘Area Studies’ in China. There are Local Studies and Regional Cultural in Chines Area Studies. Local Studies is the ‘Tibetology(藏學)’, ‘Dunhuang Studies(敦煌學)’, ‘Huizhou Studies(徽學)’ and ‘Chaozhou Studies(潮州學)’ etc. Regional Cultural is the ‘Jingchu Culture(荆楚文化)’, ‘Wuyue Culture(吳越文化)’, ‘Bashu Culture(巴蜀文化)’ and ‘Lingnan Culture(岭南文化)’ etc. I deal with the characteristic and type of ‘Local Studies’ and ‘Regional Cultural’ in China. The name of ‘Local Studies’ and ‘Regional Cultural’ originated with the ‘geographical position, administrative area, regions, the dynasty in the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period(春秋戰國時代), name of city, nation(民族)’. And I deal with the modern transformation of ‘Local Studie’ and ‘Regional Cultural’ in China.
