        Clinical Performance of Two Automated Immunoassays, EliA CTD Screen and QUANTA Flash CTD Screen Plus, for Antinuclear Antibody Screening

        Background: Recently, two fully automated immunoassays for antinuclear antibody (ANA) screening were introduced: EliA CTD Screen (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Freiburg, Germany) and QUANTA Flash CTD Screen Plus (Inova Diagnostics, San Diego, USA). We evaluated their clinical performance in comparison with the indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIFA) and analyzed samples with discrepant results. Methods: In total, 406 serum samples (206 from patients undergoing routine checkups and 200 from rheumatology clinic patients) were assayed using EliA, QUANTA Flash, and IIFA. We evaluated assay concordance and agreement and confirmed the presence of anti-extractable nuclear antigen (ENA) antibodies in samples with discrepant automated immunoassay and IIFA results. Additionally, we compared the clinical performance of each assay in diagnosing ANA-associated rheumatic disease (AARD) and adjusted the cut-off values. Results: In rheumatology clinic samples, the concordance and agreement were 91.5% and strong between EliA and QUANTA Flash, 79.0% and weak between EliA and IIFA, and 80.5% and moderate between QUANTA Flash and IIFA, respectively. In automated immunoassay-positive, IIFA-negative samples (N=15), all anti-ENA antibodies detected (6/15) were anti-Sjögren’s syndrome antigen A/Ro (Ro60) antibodies. The automated immunoassays and IIFA showed high accuracy for diagnosing AARD, and adjusted cut-off values improved their sensitivities (EliA with 0.56 ratio, 82.9% sensitivity; QUANTA Flash with 9.7 chemiluminescent units, 87.8% sensitivity). Conclusions: The two automated immunoassays showed reliable performance compared with IIFA and can be efficiently used with the IIFA in clinical immunology laboratories. Clinical cut-off values can be adjusted according to the workflow in each laboratory.

        Establishment of Reference Intervals of Cytokeratin 19 Fragment Antigen 21-1 in Korean Adults

        Cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) is useful for predicting and monitoring non-small cell lung cancer prognosis. We established reference intervals (RIs) of CYFRA 21-1 in Korean adults, including those older than 60 years. Data of 4,098 apparently healthy subjects (age range, 20–87 years) were analyzed after excluding those with a history of malignancy, high tumor marker concentrations (except CYFRA 21-1), and/or abnormal findings on a chest computed tomography scan through medical chart review. After removing two outliers, RIs of CYFRA 21-1 were determined using data of 4,096 subjects based on the non-parametric method (2.5th and 97.5th percentiles) according to CLSI guidelines EP28-A3c. The subjects were divided into two and four groups according to sex and age (20–40, 41–50, 51–60, and >60 years), respectively, and the median CYFRA 21-1 concentration was compared between the groups. The RI of CYFRA 21-1 was 0.66–3.84 ng/mL, applicable to both men and women. Regardless of sex, the CYFRA 21-1 concentration increased with age, suggesting that age-dependent RIs of CYFRA 21-1 should be applied. Rather than using a single RI provided by the manufacturer, the RI of CYFRA 21-1 should be continually verified and established in each clinical laboratory.

        해방 이후 문인들의 회고록에 나타난 자기목적성 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 해방 이후 ‘반민족처벌법’이 시행되면서 반성적 회고록을 발표해야 했던 이광수와 채만식의 내면의식을 연구하는 것이다. 반민족처벌이라는 집단적 에토스가 정치적 예외상태로 발휘하면서 친일문인들은 체포되었다. 본 논문에서 주목하는 바는 ‘불려나온 글쓰기’의 방식이다. ‘단죄’가 목적인 공간으로 불려나온 작가가 글을 쓸 수 있는 방식은 ‘사죄’로만 한정되어 있다. 이와 같은 성격의 한정적인 글쓰기는 진정한 자기목적성을 가진 글쓰기가 될 수 없다. 결국 피검을 앞둔 문인들의 회고록은 자기 자신을 설명하는 글쓰기로 귀결된다. 이광수는 『나의 고백』에서 자신의 친일은 민족을 위한 ‘희생’이었다고 고백하면서 자신의 내면의식을 찾아가는 여정을 회고하였다. 『나의 고백』은 이광수가 동학농민운동에서 독립운동으로, 결국 대동아공영권에 도모하는 과정을 보여준다. 이광수가 계속해서 무엇인가를 찾아다니는 행위는 자기 자신을 확신의 길로 향하게 하려는 의지의 결과라고 보았다. 채만식은 「민족의 죄인」에서 자신의 친일은 ‘수렁’에 빠진 것이라고 고백하였다. 그러면서 형벌로 죄를 속량하는 것이 아니라, ‘수치’와 ‘민망’을 감내하며 살아가는 것으로 민족을 향해 속죄하겠다는 의지를 보여주고 있다. 이광수와 채만식은 불기소 처분을 받은 후 활발한 문필활동을 하였다. 1950년에 연재하다 중단된 이광수의 『서울』과 1950년에 탈고하였으나 발표하지 못한 채만식의 『소년은 자란다』를 통해서 두 작가가 새로운 시대에 다음 세대에게 제시하는 청사진을 확인하였다. 이광수는 민족을 위해서 젊은이들이 나아갈 것을 제시하였고, 채만식은 이데올로기에 치우치지 않고 사회 속에 내던져진 개인들이 무수한 실패를 통해서 자기 자신에 대해서 깨닫기를 권면하고 있다. 이로써 이광수와 채만식의 친일 회고록과 해방 이후의 장편소설들을 통하여 작가의 내면세계에 대해서 연속성을 가지고 탐구해 본 것으로 본 논문의 의의를 삼고자 한다. The purpose of the study is to study the inner consciousness of Lee Kwang-soo and Chae Man-sik, who had to write retrospective memoirs as the ‘Anti-National Punishment Act’ was implemented after liberation. What the paper focuses on is the method of ‘summoned writing.’ The way a writer who has been called to a space where the purpose is ‘condemnation’ can write is limited to ‘apology’. Limited writing of this nature cannot be truly self-purposeful writing. In the end, the memoirs of writers about to be examined end up in writing explaining themselves. In 『My Confession』, Lee Gwang-su confessed that his pro-Japanese actions were a ‘sacrifice’ for the nation and recalled his journey to find his inner consciousness. In 『The Sinner of the Nation』, Chae Man-sik confessed that his pro-Japanese activities had fallen into a ‘bog.’ At the same time, he is showing his will to atone for his people by living with ‘shame’ and ‘embarrassment’ rather than redeeming his sins through punishment. Lee Kwang-soo and Chae Man-sik engaged in active literary activities after being not indicted. The two authors confirmed the blueprint they are presenting to the next generation in a new era In 1950. The purpose of this paper is to explore the author’s inner world with continuity through the pro-Japanese memoirs of Lee Kwang-soo and Chae Man-sik and the full-length novels after liberation.

      • Recent conceptual and technological advances in polydiacetylene-based supramolecular chemosensors

        <P>Owing to the color (blue-to-red) and fluorescence (non-to-fluorescent) changes that take place in response to environmental perturbations, conjugated polydiacetylenes (PDAs) have been actively employed as sensory materials for the detection of biologically-, environmentally- and chemically-important target molecules. Until recently, the majority of PDA sensors have been prepared in the form of aqueous suspensions or Langmuir-type thin films on solid substrates. In order to overcome the limitations associated with conventional solution/film sensors, conceptually new formats, such as immobilized PDAs in and on solid substrates, microarrayed PDA sensors, microfluidic PDA sensors, as well as PDA-embedded electrospun fiber sensors and resonance energy transfer (RET)-based PDA sensors, have been developed recently.         Impact of Sleep Duration on Decline in Kidney Function in Adult Patients with Hypertension: A Community-Based Prospective Cohort Study

        Background: Sleep duration is associated with various health conditions, including chronic kidney disease. How-ever, the association between sleep duration and decline in kidney function in the South Korean population re-mains unclear. We aimed to investigate the impact of sleep duration on kidney function decline in adult patients with hypertension.Methods: This cohort study was performed using data obtained from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study; 2,837 patients with hypertension who initially had normal kidney function were included. Glomerular filtra-tion rates (GFRs) were estimated at baseline and throughout the 16 years of follow-up. A person was considered to have a decline in kidney function if they had a GFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Sleep duration data were obtained through interviewer-assisted questionnaires. Sleep durations were classified as short (<6 hours), normal (≥6 hours but <9 hours), and long (≥9 hours). The Cox proportional hazards model was applied, with adjustments for covari-ates.Results: After adjusting for covariates, sleep duration was not associated with a decline in kidney function. Howev-er, among men with poorly controlled hypertension at baseline, compared to men with normal sleep durations, men with sleep durations <6 hours had a significantly higher risk of kidney function decline (hazard ratio, 1.56; 95% confidence interval, 1.02–2.36).Conclusion: Short sleep duration did not seem to be associated with an increased risk of decline in kidney func-tion; however, it may be a risk factor for the decline in kidney function in men with poorly controlled hypertension.

      • NON-STATIONARY BIORTHOGONAL WAVELET SYSTEMS CONSTRUCTED FROM INTERPOLATORY SUBDIVISION SCHEMES

        Interpolatory non-stationary subdivision schemes reproducing a certain class of basis functions are used to present the refinable functions and the assocaited dual functions. It generalizes the known interpolatory refinable functions reproducing polynomials. The new refinable functions are based on exponential polynomials and the integer shifted Gaussian functions respectively. With these refinable functions at hand, we construct the orthogonal and biorghogonal wavelet system. Our ultimate future goal is to perform the associated mathematical analysis including regularity, stability, and vanishing moments as well.

        지의류 추출물이 흰줄숲모기(Aedes albopictus)에 대하여 살충활성 및 생장 억제에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 2종의 지의류의 메탄올 추출물이 흰줄숲모기 3령 유충에 미치는 치사농도, 사충수, 생장억제를 알아보기 위한 실험을 진행한 결과Parmelia sp.엽상체 추출물경우 LC50농도는 0.13%로 나타났으며 Porpidia albocaerulescens의 LC50농 도는 0.45%로 나타나 Parmelia sp.의 추출물이 더 높은 살충활성을 보였다. 24h, 48h, 72h의 노출시간 따른 농도별 사충 수를 조사한 결과, 전반적으로 지의류의 메탄올 추출물이 고농도일수록, 노출시간이 길어질수록 유충의 사충 수는 증가하였다. Parmelia sp. 엽상체의 추출물에서 사육한 유충의 경우 용화시간은 대조군보다 지연되었고, 추출물의 농도가 높을수록 더 많은 시간이 지연된 것으로 보아 지의류 추출물이 흰줄숲모기 유충의 생장을 억제하는 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

      • CONSTRUCTION OF A NON-STATIONARY BIORTHOGONAL WAVELET SYSTEM USING A SUBDIVISION SCHEME

        We present the 4-point Gaussian based non-stationary interpolatory subdivision scheme which approximates the given data in the span of translations for the Gaussian function with the parameter λ. Different choice for the parameter leads to a different set of masks. The sequence of the refinable functions converges to the refinable function for the 4-point Deslauriers-Dubuc scheme in L<SUP>p</SUP>(0 < p < ∞). Using the subdivision mask as the lowpass filter, we construct the non-stationary biorthogonal Multiresolution Analysis(MRA) which has the approximation order of 4. Then we derive the corresponding non-stationary biorthogonal wavelet system. The resulting scaling functions and the wavelets are symmetric and compactly supported.
