A major issue for all nuclear stakeholders is to keep the probability of circumstances that could lead to core damage as low as possible. In addition, for NPP, appropriate accident management provisions are to be implemented to limit the consequences associated with an accident. Development and application of L2 PSA is a structured way to demonstrate that such objectives are achieved. The paper presents the efforts recently done in Europe to harmonize some best-practices in that field, from research area to risk assessment. The Fukushima Daiichi accident reiterated the importance of these activities and the need to efficiently reinforce the NPP safety based on risk assessment conclusions. New perspectives in Europe are briefly presented.

Consumption of kombucha fermented tea (KT) has always been associated with different health benefits. Many personal experiences and testimonials of KT drinkers are available throughout the world on the ability of KT to protect against a vast number of metabolic and infectious diseases, but very little scientific evidence is available that validates the beneficial effects of KT. The aim of this review is to give an overview of the recent studies in search of experimental confirmation of the numerous KT health-promoting aspects cited previously. Analysis of the literature data is carried out in correspondence to the recent concepts of health protection’s requirements. Attention is given to the active compounds in KT, responsible for the particular effect, and to the mechanisms of their actions. It is shown that KT can efficiently act in health prophylaxis and recovery due to four main properties: detoxification, antioxidation, energizing potencies, and promotion of depressed immunity. The recent experimental studies on the consumption of KT suggest that it is suitable for prevention against broad-spectrum metabolic and infective disorders. This makes KT attractive as a fermented functional beverage for health prophylaxis.
Optimizing Caching in a Patch Streaming Multimedia-on-Demand System

In on-demand multimedia streaming systems, streaming techniques are usually combined with proxy caching to obtain better performance. The patch streaming technique has no start-up latency inherent to it, but requires extra bandwidth to deliver the media data in patch streams. This paper proposes a proxy caching technique which aims at reducing the bandwidth cost of the patch streaming technique. The proposed approach determines media prefixes with high patching cost and caches the appropriate media prefix at the proxy/local server. Herein the scheme is evaluated using a synthetically generated media access workload and its performance is compared with that of the popularity and prefix-aware interval caching scheme (the prefix part) and with that of patch streaming with no caching. The bandwidth saving, hit ratio and concurrent number of clients are used to compare the performance, and the proposed scheme is found to perform better for different caching capacities of the proxy server.

REVIEW OF FAMILY ANAKRUSIDAE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO KOMETIA (PORIFERA: HEXACTINELLIDA)

방산충으로 알려진 Family Anakursidae에 속히는 규질 미화석이 캐나다 뉴파운드란드 Cow Head Group의 후기 Tremadocian에서 중기 Arenigian에 속하는 지층에서 해면 가시와 함께 발견되었다. Anakursids의 구형 골격 위에 방사상으로 뻗어나온 수많은 가시들 사이에 아주 미세한 hexactine spicule이 발견되었다. Hexactine spicule은 전형적인 해면가시 중의 하나다. 커다란 구형의 골격은 해면가시에 속하는 hexactine spicule의 하나가 변형된 것이다. 구형의 골격표면에서 방사상으로 분포되어 있는 가시 끝에는 미세한 umbellate terminal outgrowth가 달려있는 채로 보존된 것이 발견되었다. 이 장식은 일부 해면가시에서만 나타나는 특징적인 구조이다. 무엇보다 구형의 골격구조는 방산충과 달리 구형골격의 외부에 분포한 모든 가시들이 안쪽으로 연장되어 중심에서 만난다. Anakursa와 함께 발견된 Kometia에 속하는 해변가시는 구형의 골격대신 원추형이나 깔때기 모양으로 형태적 차이는 매우크지만 기본구조는 같다. 이 두 속(屬)은 호주 중기 캠브리안에서 발견된 해면가시 Protokometia incaensis n. gen. n. sp.로 부터 진화된 것이다. 이들 세 속(屬) 모두 Family Anakursidae에 속하며 이 Family는 방산충이 아니라 해면동물에 속한다. Anakrusids were recovered along with sponge spicules from middle Tremadocian to middle Arenigian strata of the Cow Head Group of the Great Northern Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland, Canada. Anakrusids have been described as consisting of a spherical shell with numerous hollow spines. Excellent preservation of the Cow Head specimens makes it clear that no previously reported anakrusids are perfectly preserved specimens and that they belong to the Porifera rather than the Radiolaria. The spherical shell of anakrusids has a small hexactine spicule among these numerous spines. This shell itself is actually a modification or enlarged extension of one ray of the six-rayed hexactine sponge spicule. Moreover, the spine tips are not pointed, but bear an umbellate terminal outgrowth consisting of a marginally denticulate, convex disc of recurved teeth. This type of terminal outgrowth occurs only in some sponge spicules. Most importantly, the spherical shell is occupied by the tightly packed proximal part of numerous accessory rays that are separated from the free distal part of these accessory rays by a distinct outer surface. Axial canal openings of all the rays meet at the inner cavity of the shell. A comparison of Anakrusa and co-occurring sponge spicules of Kometia florea n. sp. and Anakrusa? spp. from the Cow Head Group indicates that Anakrusa and Kometia are very closely related and that they belong to the same family, i.e., Anakrusidae. One new genus and species, Protokometia incaensis, from the Georgina Basin, Australia, is also assigned to Family Anakrusidae.

Objective: According to recent European Society of Medical Oncology, European Society of Gynaecological Oncology and European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology guidelines,adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy (VB) is optional in patients with intermediate risk (IR) and high-intermediate risk (HIR) endometrial cancer (EC). The aim of this French retrospective,multicenter study was to assess the impact of VB in these groups on local recurrence rate,local recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods: Data of 191 patients with IR and HIR EC who underwent primary surgery with or without VB and no other adjuvant treatment between 2000 and 2016 were extracted from the FRANCOGYN database. Rate of local recurrence, OS and local RFS in these two groups were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The number of patients with IR and HIR EC were 118 and 73 respectively. VB was used in 92 patients in IR group and 43 in HIR group. Median follow-up was 22 months. In the HIR group, the local recurrence rate was significantly higher in the no adjuvant therapy group in comparison with the VB group (16.7% and 0% respectively, p=0.02). There was also a significant improvement in local RFS (p=0.01) in VB group. In IR EC, there is no significant difference on local recurrence rate (4.2% and 3.2%, respectively, p=1.00) or local RFS (p=0.54) between the two groups. Conclusions: VB is an efficient adjuvant treatment for patients with HIR EC. VB is not associated with an improvement of RFS or OS in IR EC patient.
