Objectives: This study aimed to survey the characteristics of air quality and meteorological conditions in a greenway park. Methods: We measured meteorological and health related factors, including noise, particulate matter ($PM_{10}$) and selected gaseous air pollutants at three locations in a greenway park and on a general roadside as comparison. The measurements were repeated four times from April to October 2014. Results: The average air temperature in the greenway park was $20.7^{\circ}C$ which was $1-2^{\circ}C$ lower than on the general roadside. The average $PM_{10}$ concentration in the greenway park was $85.0{\mu}g/m^3$, a level 2-3 times lower than that at the roadside. The noise level at the greenway site was 4.4 dB(A)- 23.0 dB(A) lower than at the roadside. The average CO, $CO_2$, $SO_2$ and NOx concentrations in the greenway park were lower than at the roadside. The average phytoncide and anions concentrations in the greenway park were higher than at the roadside. Conclusions: The urban forest of the greenway park may have some impact on air quality and meteorological conditions.

The purpose of this study is to analyze walking accessibility to multi-family houses area and apartment complexes area using space syntax and discuss it from the viewpoint of child care environment. For this study, Bokdae1-dong and Gagyeong-dong that have the most infants in Cheongju City were selected as target places. Auto Cad 2018, depthmapX_0.35_windows, and SPSS 10.0 were used for analysis. Findings of this study are as follows: 1) Apartment complexes area is wider than multi-family houses area in a range of integration level. 2) For multi-family houses area, park/playground showed the highest integration level whereas children"s hospital showed the lowest one. For apartment complexes area, children"s hospital showed the highest integration level whereas park/playground showed the lowest one. However, there was no statistically significant difference. 3) When analyzing accessibility to spaces in multi-family houses area and apartment complexes area respectively according to blocks, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in integration level of day care center, children"s hospital, and park/playground.
Labor union associates' perception and participation on the safety and health education at work

연구목적: 본 연구는 제조업과 건설업 사업장 노동조합관계자들의 사내 안전보건교육에 대한 인식과 참여정도를 파악하고 이들 간의 관련성을 분석하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 연구방법: 본 연구의 대상은 103명의 노동조합 관계자들(78개 제조업 산업장의 91명, 12지역의 12건설업 노동조합관계자)이었고 이들을 대상으로 자기기입식 설문조사를 실시하였다. 전국기업체산업안전협의회의 회원사들을 중심으로 우리나라 전역의 제조업과 건설업 사업장을 임의로 선정하고 선정된 사업장별로 설문지 2부, 노동부의 설문조사 협조공문, 설문조사 안내문, 설문회수용 봉투로 구성된 우편물을 사업장 노동조합사무실로 배달하는 방식으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 80% 이상이 소속 사업장 규모가 50인 이상이었고 대부분이 결혼한 남자로 구성되어 있었다. 설문조사 내용은 대상자와 대상사업장의 일반적 특성, 사업장의 안전보건교육 특성, 노동조합의 사내 안전보건교육 참여도, 노동조합의 사내 안전 보건교육에 대한 인식으로 구성되었다. 연구결과: 전체적으로 제조업사업장에 건설업 사업장에서보다 사내 안전보건교육에 대한 인적, 물적 인프라가 잘 구축되어 있었고 사업주의 사내 안전보건교육에 대한 지원도가 높았으며, 사내 안전보건교육 담당자들의 교육역량에 대한 인식도가 더 높은 경향을 보였다. 이러한 인적, 물적 인프라는 사업장내 노동조합의 안전보건교육 참여도와 정의 상관관계가 있었으며 그 정도는 중등도 이상의 수준이었다. 결론: 이상의 결과를 토대로 볼 때, 사업장 안전보건교육에 대한 노동조합의 참여와 지지를 확충하기 위해서는 사업장 조직적으로 안전보건교육 실시에 대한 지원이 선행되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 안전보건관리자들을 대상으로 근로자 산업재해에 대한 지식뿐만 아니라 사내 안전보건교육을 수행관리할 수 있는 '교육역량'을 기를 수 있도록 연수프로그램을 확충할 필요가 있겠다. Objectives: This study identified the labor union associates' perception and participation status on SHEW and analyzed these two Constructs correlations with Safety and health education at work(SHEW) in manufacture and construction industries. Methods: Self-administered survey was successfully finished by 103 labor union associates (91 employed in 78 manufacturing companies and 12 employed in 12 constructing companies over 12 areas). Two questionnaires, survey direction slip, the official letter to ask survey participation from Korea Ministry of Labor, and a posted envelop to return were delivered to each workplace labor union office in conveniently selected companies. Most participants' companies were at least medium to large in manufacturing industry and most associates were men and married. A survey questionnaire examined demographic characteristics, SHEW status (participation status included), and perceptions of SHEW. Results: Overall, manufacturing companies had better infrastructures for SHEW, employer support for SHEW, and current educators' competencies than constructing companies. These infrastructures for SHEW were closely correlated with company labor union participation on SHEW and the correlation coefficients were greater than any other expectations or needs variables for SHEW. Conclusions: The primary strategies for better participation and support from labor union need to be developed in supporting for organizational infrastructures related to SHEW and strengthening safety and health education training programs for supervisors or educators at work.

To identify an ideal carrier for rhBMP-2 during spinal fusion surgery, we produced a posterolateral rats lumbar fusion model to compare the bone induction potentials of rhBMP in collagen sponge(CS) and rhBMP-2 mixed with insoluble porcine collagen(PC) gel. Forty Sprague-Dawley rats(350-400 grams) subjected to bilateral lumbar intertransverse process fusion were allocated to CS Groups(Groups 1 to 4) or PC gel Groups(Group 5 to 8). Group 1 animals were implanted with CS and injected with 1 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 2 with CS plus 3 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 3 with CS plus 5 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 4 with CS plus 10 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 5 with PC gel containing 1 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 6 with PC gel plus 3 ?g rhBMP-2; Group 7 with PC gel plus 5 ?g rhBMP-2; and Group 8 with PC gel plus 10 ?g rhBMP-2. Spinal fusion masses were evaluated by manual palpation, radiographic assessment, microcomputer tomographic scanning, and histologically at 8 weeks after surgery. Bone fusion was radiologically confirmed in 50% in Group 3, 66% in Group 4, 16.7% in Group 5, 20% in Group 6, 80% in Group 7, and 100% in Group 8. Treatment with PC gel plus rhBMP-2 resulted in higher spinal fusion rates than CS plus rhBMP-2 based on manual palpation, microCT, and histologic examinations(P < 0.01). In this study, the mixing of gelatin gel and rhBMP-2 resulted in more effective lumbar intertransverse process fusion than injecting collagen containing rhBMP-2.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Few data are available on whether adjusting the dose of posaconazole syrup is effective in patients receiving anti-cancer chemotherapy. The aim of this prospective study was to analyse the impact of increasing the frequency of posaconazole administration on optimal plasma concentrations in adult patients with haematological malignancy. A total of 133 adult patients receiving chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukaemia or myelodysplastic syndrome who received posaconazole syrup 200 mg three times daily for fungal prophylaxis were enrolled in this study. Drug trough levels were measured by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. In 20.2% of patients (23/114) the steady-state concentration of posaconazole was suboptimal (<500 ng/mL) on Day 8. In these patients, the frequency of posaconazole administration was increased to 200 mg four times daily. On Day 15, the median posaconazole concentration was significantly increased from 368 ng/mL [interquartile range (IQR), 247–403 ng/mL] to 548 ng/mL (IQR, 424–887 ng/mL) (<I>P</I> = 0.0003). The median increase in posaconazole concentration was 251 ng/mL (IQR, 93–517 ng/mL). Among the patients with initially suboptimal levels, 79% achieved the optimal level unless the steady-state level was <200 ng/mL. This study shows that increasing the administration frequency of posaconazole syrup is effective for achieving optimal levels in patients with haematological malignancy undergoing chemotherapy.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Increasing the frequency of posaconazole syrup is effective for adjusting drug levels. </LI> <LI> Optimal drug levels are not achieved when steady-state level is <200 ng/mL. </LI> <LI> In only 5.3% (6/114), drug levels remained suboptimal despite dose adjustment. </LI> </UL> </P>

<B>Purpose</B><P>To determine the reference site for relative apparent diffusion coefficient (rADC) and to evaluate the benefit of rADC for detecting metastatic lymph nodes in uterine cervical cancer.</P><B>Materials and Methods</B><P>Two observers independently measured ADCs in the spleen, liver, renal cortex, lumbar spine, lumbar spinal cord, and gluteus maximus on diffusion-weighted images (b value, 0 and 1000 mm/sec<SUP>2</SUP>) in 50 patients. The reference site for rADC was determined using the intra- and interobserver coefficient of variation (CV) of ADC in these organs. rADC was calculated by ADC<SUB>lesion</SUB>/ADC<SUB>reference site</SUB>. The benefit of rADC over ADC was validated by comparing the area under the receiver operating curve for identifying metastatic lymph nodes in uterine cervical cancer in 130 patients.</P><B>Results</B><P>The renal cortex was determined to be the reference site for rADC, as its CVs (intraobserver, 5%–7%; interobserver, 5%) were less than those of the other organs (P < 0.05). The ADC and rADC of metastatic lymph nodes (n = 29, ADC, 0.7483 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> mm<SUP>2</SUP>/sec; rADC, 0.3832) were less than those of nonmetastatic lymph nodes (n = 229, ADC, 0.9960 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> mm<SUP>2</SUP>/sec; rADC, 0.5383) (P < 0.05). The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve for differentiating metastatic from nonmetastatic lymph nodes was greater for rADC (0.914; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.872–0.945) than for ADC (0.872; 95% CI, 0.825–0.910) (P = 0.007).</P><B>Conclusion</B><P>The renal cortex is an appropriate reference site for rADC and rADC may improve the accuracy for diagnosing metastatic lymph nodes in uterine cervical cancer. <P>Dipterocarpus obtusifolius has been traditionally used as a herbal medicine and is considered to have anticancer properties. The biological activity of D. obtusifolius in inflammation and the underlying mechanisms of its activity remain to be elucidated. The present study investigated the effects of D. obtusifolius methanolic extract (DOME) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated inflammation in RAW264.7 cells. The effects of DOME on the production of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines were assessed by ELISA, western blot analysis and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. It was demonstrated that expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, interleukin-1 beta and tumor necrosis factor-a was suppressed by DOME in LPS-stimulated cells. Furthermore, treatment with DOME suppressed phosphorylation of mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) molecules, including extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase and p38 MAPK. Translocation of the nuclear factor-kappa B p65 subunit into the nucleus was additionally inhibited by DOME. Phosphorylation of MAPK promoter activity was inhibited by treatment with DOME, PD98059, SB202190 and SP600125. These results demonstrated that DOME inhibits LPS-induced inflammatory responses. Therefore, DOME may be a potential therapeutic approach for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.</P>
