The purpose of this research aims to reveal how radish kimchi (Jong-ga) differs in Jong-ga recipes and old cookbooks. To accomplish this, old cookbooks ("Soowoonjabbang", "Jusiksiui", "Eumsikbangmunnira", "Siuejunsuh", "Banchandeungsok", and "Buinpilji") were reviewed and 8 Jong-ga recipes (Seogye Park Se-dang from the Bannam Park clan Jong-ga, Myungsukgong from the Changnyeong Jo clan Jong-ga, Nampa Park Jae-gyu from the Milyang Park clan Jong-ga, Geunggudang Kim Joong-jeung from the Gwangsan Kim clan Jong-ga, Dongchundang Song Jun-gil from the Eunjin Song clan Jong-ga, Myeongjae Yun Jung from the Papyung Yun clan Jong-ga, Daeseunggong Ryu Cha-dal from the Munhwa Ryu clan Jong-ga, Inmukjae Son Sung-jeung from the Milseong Son clan Jong-ga) from five areas were reviewed. We classified the radish kimchi into five categories, radish kimchi, Dongchimi, kkakdugi, Seokbakji and Nabak kimchi and other kimchi. According to old cookbooks, most kimchi was made with radish, cabbage, cucumber, pear, yuju, fish meat, and salt. Modern Jong-ga is made of seasoned radish, sticky rice paste, seafood, sugar, powdered pepper, fish sauce and salt. This study helps to understand notable clans' cultures via their recipes for kimchi.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major health problem in many countries, and it is estimated to be the third common cause of death by 2020. However, there are few population-based studies to investigate the chest x-ray fi ndings in patients with COPD. Methods: We investigated the relationship of lung function and chest x-ray fi ndings using Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data. A total of 45,811 subjects were enrolled from July 2008 to December 2012. 13,602 subjects (5,878 male and 7,724 female) who undertook chest x-ray and PFT were analyzed in this study. Chest x-ray fi ndings were interpreted by one radiologist and four pulmonologists, and these readings were re-checked by six other doctors. Chest x-ray fi ndings are divided by 11 categories. PFT results are classifi ed as normal, obstructive, or restrictive pattern. All data analysis was done by SAS 9.2.Results: 10,342 (76.0%) subjects showed normal lung function; 1,776 (13.1%) obstructive pattern; 1,484 (10.9%) restrictive pattern. Inactive tuberculosis was the most common fi nding (7.9%) in this study. In subjects with airway obstruction, inactive tuberculosis (20.1%) was the most common fi nding and inactive other lung disease (6.3%) was the second. Like subject with obstructive lung pattern, inactive tuberculsis (11.3%) and inactive other lungdieseas (5.5%) were most common in subjects with restrictive lung function. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, there were no studies to investigate the association of lung function and chest x-ray fi ndings using population based study. In Korea, 20.1% of subjects with airway obstruction showed inactive tuberculosis on chest x-ray. Inactive tuberculosis and inactive other lung disease were most common chest x-ray fi ndings in both subjects with obstructive and restrictive lung function, but the proportion was different between two groups.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic illness that affects people both physically and psychologically. To date, many studies have been conducted for evaluation of the burden of caregivers in chronic disease such as stroke, dementia, however, RA has not been evaluated. A population-based study was conducted to evaluate the psychosocial impact of RA patients on their family members. Methods: From the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES V) (2010-2012) dataset, we identifi ed 452 RA patients and then selectedfamily members of these patients who were aged 20 years or older (n=515). The control group was sampled from members of families without RA patient with matching for sex and age (n=1,545). Serial conditional logistic regression models were used for comparison of characteristics between family members of RA patients and control group, and prediction of psychosocial impact, such as history of depression, of RA patients on their family memebers. Results: The mean age was 51. 9±18. 8 years. Family members of RA patients were more employed (63. 6% vs. 60. 2%, p = 0. 037), and had higher household income (p=0. 037) compared with sex and age-matched control subjects. No signifi cant differences in comorbidity between two groups. Family members of RA patients also had a signifi cantly higher level of stress (29% vs. 24. 3%, p=0. 046), history of depression (17. 3% vs. 11. 9%, p=0. 004). The presence of a RA patient in the family showed an association with history of depression (odds ratio, 1. 60; 95% confi dence interval, 1. 19 to 2. 16; p=0. 002), after adjustment for household income, education level, and employment status. Conclusions: Our data shows that family members of RA patients are more susceptible to depression. We suggest that physicians or rheumatologists who treat RA patients should pay attention to psychosocial burden of family members of their patients.

Background: Rate of cancer-positive lateral margin (LM) after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC) have been reported 2 to 12%. Sometimes cancer cells abut to multiple lateral margins. The aim of this study was to compare clinicopathologic characteristics and treatment outcomes between single and multiple cancer-positive LM group. Methods: From September 2010 to April 2014, 1346 patients underwent ESD for EGC. Among them, 33 patients (2.5%) had cancer-positive LM. Clinicopathological data of these patients were investigated. Results: There were 25 patients with single positive LM (group LM1+) and 8 with multiple positive LM (group LM2+). No patients met the absolute indication of ESD, and all patients met the expanded indication (n=17) or beyond indication (n=16). LM2+ group tended to have more undifferentiated carcinoma (62.5% vs. 36.0%) and larger size of the lesion (>30mm) (62.5% vs. 28%), but there were no statistical signifi cance. Sixteen patients (64%) and 1 patient (12.5%) met expanded indication of ESD in LM1+ and LM2+ group, respectively. After ESD, 5 patients (20.0%) and 1 patient (12.5%) underwent regular endoscopic follow-up, and 11 patients (36.4%) and 1 patient (12.5%) underwent local control with redo-ESD or argon plasma coagulation in LM1+ and LM2+ group, respectively. There were no locoregional or distant metastasis during the follow-up periods (median 25.1 months). Nine (36.0%) in LM1+ group and 6 (75.0%) in LM2+ group underwent surgery after ESD. Residual cancer was detected in 69.2% (9/13) and 66.7% (4/6) after surgery or redo-ESD in LM1+ and LM2+ group, respectively. Conclusions: Even though there was no statistical signifi cance, proportions of large lesion size (>3cm) and undifferentiated carcinoma were higher in LM2+ group than LM1+ group. Careful investigation of margin is necessary for these patients.
Some Discharge Characteristics of Surface Discharge AC PDPs by the Voltage Transfer Curve
Sung-Hyun Lee,Dong-Hyun Kim,Woo-Geun Lee,Chung-Hoo Park,Jung-Soo Cho 한국정보과학회 1999 Journal of Electrical Engineering and Information Vol.4 No.4
In this paper, we have suggested a method to measure the wall voltage V_w and one of the equivalent capacitances of the cell in the surface discharge ac PDP (Plasma Display Panel) by simple experiment under a given driving waveform. The voltage transfer curve is obtained with the information of V_w, C_d. and shaping by applying various peak amplitudes of the sustain voltage to the cells. The effect of frequency and duty ratio of sustain pulse are discussed. Moreover, the critical pulse width, the critical sustain voltage amplitude, and the critical period of swing voltage as an erase pulse can clearly be determined from the analysis of the voltage transfer curves of the surface discharge ac PDP.

In this study, we developed an electrostatic tactile stimulator based on audio power amplifier. This stimulator consisted of a PC, amplifier, and power unit. PC generates stimulation parameters, which are stimulus waveform, frequency and time. The amplifier amplifies stimulation signal to evoke an electrostatic sensation. The power unit converts 220 VAC to 300 VDC to supply powers to an audio power amplifier. To verify the developed stimulator, we performed human perception experiments on the index finger with electro encephalogram (EEG). Also, perception responses were recorded in range of various frequencies (5-300 Hz). From the results, activation changes with different stimulation frequencies, and the event-related potential (ERP) of all subjects were measured after stimulation. Furthermore, stimulation parameters such as stimulation waveform, strength, and time were controlled easily without additional devices. Thus, it is widely used in various tactile sensations studies.

Background: Extracellular Ca2+ have previously been shown to regulate the growth of colon cancer and act as chemopreventive agents. Furthermore, Ca2+ signaling is presumed to be involved in various tumorigenic pathways. This study was performed to determine CaSR expression levels in gastric cancer and to examine the related clinicopathological factors. Methods: Forty-eight paired samples comprising gastric cancer tissues and the matched normal tissues were obtained from surgical specimens after gastrectomy. The CaSR mRNA and protein expression levels were measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. Immunohistochemistry was used to evaluate the expression of CaSR in both tissues. The results obtained were classifi ed into 3 groups according to the following expression grades: 0 (lower CaSR expression in the cancer tissue), 1 (similar levels of CaSR expression in both tissues), and 2 (greater CaSR expression in the cancer tissue). Results: In 67.5% and 60.0% of gastric cancers, the CaSR mRNA and protein expression levels were lower than that in normal tissues. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that the expression levels of CaSR in gastric cancer tissues were similarly (grade 1; 50.0%) or lower (grade 0; 29.2%) than that in normal tissues. The CaSR mRNA levels was signifi cantly lower in gastric cancer tissues with a higher T stage (p = 0.035) and perineural invasion (p = 0.044). However, there was no signifi cant relationship between CaSR expression and other clinicopathological factors, i.e., age, sex, serum Ca2+ concentration, differentiation, Lauren`s classifi cation, size, LN involvement, distant metastasis, and venous and lymphatic invasion. Conclusions: The low CaSR expression is associated with the depth invasion and perineural invasion of gastric cancer. Although further studies are needed to clarify the role of CaSR, the present study provides new insights into the pathogenesis and progression of gastric cancers.
