      • Product Architecture Modularity and Supply Chain Relationship

        Juliana Hsuan,Yearnmin Kim 대한산업공학회 2012 대한산업공학회 춘계학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.5

In this paper, a framework called Platform Portfolio Matrix (PPM) is introduced to explain the relationship of product architecture modularity with the supply chain. Using PPM, we investigated the product architecture modularity for supply chain relationship in a particular ship, FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading). Based on this enquiry and two streams of research - arm’s length/black box or partnerships/co-development, propositions about the dynamic positioning of product architecture modularity and supply chain relationship are suggested for further research development. In this paper, we show the connection between the coordination requirements of a supplier’s relationships in terms of product architecture modularity and show the trajectories of the relationships create.

Antihypertensive and Cardiovascular Effects of Catechin-Rich Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) Leaf Extract in Nitric Oxide–Deficient Rats

        Juliana M. Jaffri,Suhaila Mohamed,Nordanial Rohimi,Intan N. Ahmad,M. Mustapha Noordin,Yazid A. Manap 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.7

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) leaf extract (OPLE) possesses good ex vivo vasodilation and antioxidant properties. This study evaluated the catechin-rich OPLE antioxidant, antihypertensive, and cardiovascular effects in normal and nitric oxide (NO)–deficient hypertensive rats. OPLE was administered orally (500 mg/kg of body weight/day) to normotensive Wistar rats and Nω-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME)-induced NO-deficient hypertensive rats. OPLE significantly (P<.05) attenuated blood pressure increases, increased serum NO, reduced lipid peroxidation, and showed antioxidant effects in NO-deficient hypertensive rats. OPLE decreased the coronary arteriole wall-to-lumen ratio to near normal values under NO deficiency. Although OPLE showed good antihypertensive and antioxidant effects under NO deficiency, it was not hypotensive to normal rats and produced no chronic cardiovascular toxicity in any of the rats throughout the 12-week study. This is the first report on the in vivo antihypertensive properties of green tea catechins extracted from an alternative source, namely, oil palm leaf, for use as a medicinal food for hypertension and cardiovascular ailments.

      • Plaster body wrap: effects on abdominal fat

Juliana Santos Moreira,Ana Sofia Carneiro Pinto de Melo,Andreia Noites,Miriam Faria Couto,Cristina Argel de Melo,Nuno Carvalho Freire de Almeida Adubeiro 한국한의학연구원 2013 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.2 No.4

Background: Abdominal fat is associated with metabolic disorders, leading to cardiovascular risk factors and numerous diseases. This study aimed to analyze the effect of plaster body wrap in combination with aerobic exercise on abdominal fat. Methods: Nineteen female volunteers were randomly divided into intervention group (IG; n = 10) performing aerobic exercise with plaster body wrap, and control group (CG; n = 9) performing only exercise. Subcutaneous and visceral fat were measured using ultrasound; subcutaneous fat was also estimated on analysis of skinfolds and abdominal perimeters. Results: At the end of the 10-sessions protocol, the IG demonstrated a significant decrease (p ≤ 0.05) in subcutaneous fat at the left anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) level and in iliac crest perimeter measurements. A large intervention effect size strength (0.80) was found in subcutaneous fat below the navel and a moderate effect size strength on the vertical abdominal skinfold (0.62) and the perimeter of the most prominent abdominal point (0.57). Comparing the initial and final data of each group, the IG showed a significant decrease in numerous variables including visceral and subcutaneous fat above and below the navel measured by ultrasound (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: Plaster body wrap in combination with aerobic exercise seems to be effective for abdominal fat reduction.

        Secondary Metabolites of Miconia rubiginosa

Juliana Rodrigues,Daniel Rinaldo,Marcelo Aparecido da Silva,Lourdes Campaner dos Santos,Wagner Vilegas 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.7

The Miconia genus is the most representative of the Melastomataceae family, and some species are commonly used in Brazilian folk medicine as anti-inflammatory agents. In this work we investigated the leaves from Miconia rubiginosa (Bonpl.) DC, using high-speed countercurrent chromatography, which yielded 11 substances (eight flavonoids, gallic acid, casuarictin, and schizandriside). Identification was achieved using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography–circular dichroism–diode array detection analyses.

      • E-Government and the Digital Divide in Ghana

( Juliana Ama Kplorfia ) 한국정책학회 2015 한국정책학회 동계학술발표논문집 Vol.2015 No.-

Undoubtedly, Ghana has Joined the global effort to utilize e-Government for effective, efficient and inclusive public service. However, the implementation of e-Government has challenges of a wide ``digital divide``, reflectiong a gap between technology "haves and have-nots". The lack of access to modern technology by majority of Ghanaians has become a significant impediment to the success of e-government initiatives in Ghana, as well as other developing countries. This paper explores the degree of the "digital divide" and its bearing on e0government initiatives in Ghana through an analysis of literature from academic journals, books, practitioner reports, and policy documents. My study would not only yield insight into the problem, tut also suggest ways to bridge the digital divide to insure e-government inclusion at the grassroots level. Ultimately, I hope to make a case that combined efforts at comprehensive national physical access to technology, training, creation of awareness of usefulness and attitudinal change management are the panaceas to bridging the divide to ensure e-Government success. This study may have some limitations due to the excessive use secondary data, but the approach was time and cost effective.

Cooperative Learning Instruction: Its Impact on ESL Learners` Oral Performance

        ( Juliana Othman ),( Chong Ik Poh ) 범태평양응용언어학회 2005 범태평양응용언어학회지 Vol.9 No.1

This paper reports on a study in which the effect of cooperative learning (CL) instruction on learners`` oral performance in the school-based oral assessment was investigated. The influence of CL on learners`` patterns of communication during group interaction was also examined. Data were elicited from sixty two students from an urban secondary school in Malaysia. The quantitative results seem to imply that CL instruction has a positive influence on learners`` performance in the oral assessment. Further analysis on learners`` discourse showed that learners who received CL instruction produced patterns of communication which were more meaning focused and created opportunities for negotiations of meaning.
