Ramie (Boehmeria nivea M.) has been used for fiber materials in Korea traditionally, but in recent years, the concern with ramie leaves for the food industry such as tteok (a kind of Korean rice cake) industry has been increasing, so a study for eatable ramie is required for the expansion of ramie consumption. Moreover, the ramie varieties for the food industry are not established, so the natural species are cultivated in general; therefore, it is very important to select the ramie varieties for the food industry such as rice cakes, tea, beverage and so on. This study was undertaken to compare the physiochemical properties among 9 ramie lines selected in the Yeonggwang-gun Agricultural Technology Center to select the eatable ramie varieties for the food industry. The contents of the protein among 9 ramie lines was 6.21~7.56% and had the highest content in the YG55. The folic acid (folate) and vitamin C content had varying differences among the 9 lines; the content of folate showed $771.52{\sim}1,978.84{\mu}g%$, that of vitamin C showed 149.42~275.34 mg%. The ACE inhibitory activity appeared to be the highest in YG88 (21.5%) among the 9 ramie varieties tested.

This study was performed to determine the optimal time of harvest for ramie leaves with the two varieties (Seocheon Seobang and Seoncheon Baekpi) by comparison of physiological activity and physicochemical characteristics. The crude protein, minerals, ascorbic acid, folate, chlorophyll, ACE inhibitory activity and AChE inhibitory activity were determined. The amount of crude protein in ramie leaf, which was collected in Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, grew up steadily from early May to September. The content of calcium in was higher in Baekpi than in Seobang. Seobang displayed its highest value of 3,569.90 mg% in September, while Baekpi displayed its highest value of 3,163.84 mg% in October. Although, folate and vitamin C contents in the two varieties were slightly different, they were higher as the growth date grew in October. The highest value of chlorophyll content was observed in October, which was later in the vegetative state. ACE inhibitory activity and AChE inhibitory activity appeared to be higher in Baekpi than in Seobang. Between June and August, ACE inhibitory activity was highest in Baekpi variety.

This study was performed to develop new anti-obesity agents from medicinal plants for functional food industry. We prepared lipase inhibitor-containing ethanol extracts from Desmodium oxyphyllu DC. and its nutritional characteristics, stability of temperature and pH and physiological functionalities were investigated. Crude lipid content and curde protein content of ethanol extract from Desmodium oxyphyllum DC. were 26.5% and 5.7%, respectively and its asparagine content was 4,860 ㎎/100 g, dry basis. The ethanol extracts were also stable from pH 3.0 to pH 9.0 and below 80℃. The ethanol extract were showed high lipase inhibitory activity of 74.2% and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity of 68.4%.

A lipase inhibitor from Desmodium oxyphyllum DC. was purified by methanol extraction, systematic solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography, C18 solid phase extraction chromatography and RP-HPLC. We obtained the purified lipase inhibitor with 182 ng(IC50) of lipase inhibitory activity for a 0.06% yield. Its molecular weight was estimated to be 655.37 Da from an instrumental analysis of MALDI-TOF-MS and it was identified copper-3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxybenzoic acid (C14H8Br4CuO6) by 1H, 13C NMR analysis.
자궁경부 국소적 진행암에서 선행 화학요법으로서 Cisplatin , Ifosfamide , Paclitaxel ( CIP ) 의 phase Ⅱ 연구

Objective : To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of Cisplatin, Ifosfamide, Paclitaxel as neoadjuvant chemotherapy in 40 patients with locally advanced cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Methods : Forty patients with pathologic confirmed cervical squamous cell caner (28 Ib2-IIa, 5 IIb, 4 IIIa, 2 IIIb, 1 IVa) were prospectively enrolled in the study from Feb 1997 to Feb 1999. Patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma were submitted to three courses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CIP) followed by surgery. Their treatment consisted of paclitaxel 175 mg/m2 given over three hours on day 1, cisplatin 50 mg/m2, ifosfamide 5 g/m2 in a 24-hour continuous infusion and mesna 5 g/m2 in a 24-hour continuous infusion on day 2 and mesna 3 g/m2 in a 24-hours continuous infusion on day 3. The course was repeated every three weeks for three courses and all of the patients excepted those with disease progression or who were inoperable, were scheduled for radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.Results : All 40 patients were evaluated for response and toxicities. 35 patients underwent surgery, seven(17.5%) had pathology documented complete response, eight(20.0%) had partial responses with only microscopic residual disease in the cervix, fifteen(37.5%) had suboptimal partial responses and five(12.5%) had stable disease. And five(12.5%) patients had not performed surgery. The toxicities were studied and the results were evaluated with relatively acceptable range. At a median follow up period of 19 months(range 15-31 months), 35(87.5%) women are alive without recurrence, four are alive with recurrent disease and one died due to the disease. Conclusion : CIP regimen on the locally advanced cervical squamous cell carcinoma, yielded a 37.5% complete and optimal partial response rate with acceptable toxicity. And it should be done that adequate following up prospectively for determine the impact of CIP regimen in time to progression and survival.
