Background: Hyperuriacemia as an independent predictor of short- and long-term prognosis in patients with myocardial infarction remained controversial. Hence, the study aimed to assess association between hyperuricemia and mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Materials and Methods: In our five-year retrospective cohort, we analyzed 944 STEMI patients undergoing pPCI; with 88% male, the median of age 57 years and TIMI risk 4 in score. We divided these patient into hyperuricemia (uric acid >7mg/dl) and normal uric acid (uric acid = 7mg/dl) groups. The study end point was six-month and one-year mortality. Results: Baseline characteristics were similar in two groups except creatinine. Patients with hyperuricemia (n=293) had higher six-month (8.2% vs. 4.2%, P=0.019) and oneyear mortality (9.6% vs. 5.0%, P=0.014). In univariate analysis, hyperuricemia was associated with higher one-year mortality (Hazard ratio: 1.967, 95% CI: 1.18-3.27). However, after adjustment for age, gender, body mass index, and creatinine, hyperuricemia was no longer a signifi cant risk factor. In the subgroup analysis divided by Killip`s classifi cation, hyperuricemia remained an independent predictor of one-year mortality in patients at Killip I, even after adjustment for potential confounders. However, the association is not signifi cant in patients at Killip II to IV. There was a signifi - cant interaction between hyperuricemia and Killip`s classifi cation associated with oneyear mortality (P for interaction=0.037). The same association was found between hyperuricemia and six-month mortality. Conclusions: We suggest that the association between hyperuricemia and the outcome of STEMI patients is dependent upon disease-severity and has the greatest impact on low risk groups (i.e., patients classifi ed as Killip I).

Chromosomal Aberrations in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells Induced by Kojic Acid

수종의 Aspergillus속 및 Penicillium속 균이 생산하는 진균대사 산물인 kojic acid가 독성분해 활성제의 첨가유무에 관계없이 Chinese hamster 난소세포에 염색체 변이를 일으키는 것이 확인되었다. Kojic acid 처리량의 증가에 따라 염색체 변이 또한 증가되었다. Kojic acid의 잠재독성에 관한 본 실험결과에 기초해 이는 일종의 변이 유기체로 추정되며 현재로는 식품첨가제로서의 사용에 문제가 있는 것으로 사료된다. Kojic acid, a fungal metabolite produced by some species of Aspergillus and Penicillium, was found to induce chromosomal aberrations in Chinese hamster ovary cells in the presence or absence of the rat liver homogenate (S9 mix). All categories of chromosomal aberrations increased with increased doses of kojic acid. Based on the this result, kojic acid was assumed to be a kind of mutagens. On the potential toxicity of this compound it becomes evident that kojic acid would not be used as a food additive at this time.

Objective: Autonomic imbalance is considered a psychopathological mechanism underlying major depressive disorder (MDD). Heart rate variability (HRV) is an index for autonomic activation. Poor sleep quality is common among patients with MDD. HRV biofeedback (BF) has been used for regulating autonomic balance among patients with physical illness and mental disorders. The purpose of present study was to examine the effects of HRV-BF on depressive symptoms, sleep quality, pre-sleep arousal, and HRV indices, in patients with MDD and insomnia. Methods: In this case-controlled study, patients with MDD and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score higher than 6 were recruited. The HRV-BF group received weekly 60-minute protocol for 6 weeks, and the control group who have matched the age and sex received medical care only. All participants were assessed on Beck Depression Inventory-II, Back Anxiety Inventory, PSQI, and Pre-Sleep Arousal Scale. Breathing rates and electrocardiography were also performed under resting state at pre-testing, and post-testing conditions and for the HRV-BF group, also at 1-month follow-up. Results: In the HRV-BF group, symptoms of depression and anxiety, sleep quality, and pre-sleep arousal were significantly improved, and increased HRV indices, compared with the control group. Moreover, in the HRV-BF group, significantly improved symptoms of depression and anxiety, decreased breathing rates, and increased HRV indices were detected at post-testing and at 1-month follow-up, compared with pre-testing values. Conclusion: This study confirmed that HRV-BF is a useful psychosocial intervention for improving autonomic balance, baroreflex, and symptoms of depression and insomnia in MDD patients.

Traumatic interposition of a rotator cuff tendon in the glenohumeral joint without recognizable glenohumeral dislocation is an unusual complication after shoulder trauma. Here we report the clinical and imaging presentations of a 17-year-old man with trapped rotator cuff tendons in the glenohumeral joint after a bicycle accident. The possible trauma mechanism is also discussed.
Preparation and characterization of Y-TZP powders coated with alumina

In this study, alumina was coated onto yttria tetragonally stabilized zirconia (Y-TZP)core powder using aluminum nitrate with urea in an aqueous solution. Boehmite coating onto the surface of Y-TZP powders was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and zeta potential measurements. The sintering behaviors of Y-TZP powders with and without an alumina coating were investigated using a dilatometer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Boehmite coating onto the surface of Y-TZP powders significantly improved the densification of the resulting ceramic bodies. The relative density of the Y-TZP with a boehmite coating sintered at 1350oC can reach 97.3%. Objective: Patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) have impaired attention, inhibition control, and memory function. The aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2 ) gene has been associated with OUD and ALDH2 gene polymorphisms may affect aldehyde metabolism and cognitive function in other substance use disorder. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether ALDH2 genotypes have significant effects on neuropsychological functions in OUD patients undergoing methadone maintenance therapy (MMT). Methods: OUD patients undergoing MMT were investigated and followed-up for 12 weeks. ALDH2 gene polymorphisms were genotyped. Connors’ Continuous Performance Test (CPT) and the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (WMS-R) were administered at baseline and after 12 weeks of MMT. Multivariate linear regressions and generalized estimating equations (GEEs) were used to examine the correlation between the ALDH2 genotypes and performance on the CPTs and WMS-R. Results: We enrolled 86 patients at baseline; 61 patients completed the end-of-study assessments. The GEE analysis showed that, after the 12 weeks of MMT, OUD patients with the ALDH2 *1/*2+*2/*2 (ALDH2 inactive) genotypes had significantly higher commission error T-scores (p = 0.03), significantly lower hit reaction time T-scores (p = 0.04), and significantly lower WMS-R visual memory index scores (p = 0.03) than did patients with the ALDH2 1 */*1 (ALDH2 active) genotype. Conclusion: OUD patients with the ALDH2 inactive genotypes performed worse in cognitive domains of attention, impulse control, and memory than did those with the ALDH2 active genotype. We conclude that the ALDH2 gene is important in OUD and is associated with neuropsychological performance after MMT.

This paper presents preliminary results of the APMP.EM-K6a key comparison of AC-DC transfer conducted during 2000 to 2003. The AC-DC voltage transfer difference of the travelling standard was measured at 3 V and selected frequencies from 1 kHz to 1 MHz that included those of the CCEM-K6a key comparison. Also discussed are the methods used to compare thermal voltage converters with different input connectors, and to link the results to the parent Consultative Committee on Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM) comparison.
