Purpose: Implementing an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is a relatively safe procedure but potential negative long-term effects. The complications for filter retrieval have been noted. We examined filter characteristics on pre-retrieval computed tomography (CT) that were associated with complicated retrieval (CR) of IVC filters.Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of IVC filter retrievals between January 2008 and June 2014 was performed to identify patients who had undergone a pre-retrieval CT for IVC filter retrieval. CR was defined as the use of nonstandard techniques, procedural time over 30 min, filter fractures, filter tip incorporation into the IVC wall, and retrieval failure. Pre-retrieval CT images were evaluated for tilt angle in the mediolateral and anteroposterior directions, tip embedding into the IVC wall, degree of filter strut perforation, and distance of the filter tip from the nearest renal vein.Results: Of seventy-six patients, twenty-four patients (31.6%) with CRs and 56 patients (73.7%) with non-CR were evaluated for pre-retrieval CT. For IVC filter retrieval with a dwelling time of over 45 days, a tilt of over 15 degrees, the appearance of tip embedding and grade 2 perforation were associated with CR on multivariate analysis. However, for IVC filter retrievals with a dwelling time of less than 45 days, there were no factors associated with CR.Conclusion: Pre-retrieval CTs may be more effective for IVC filters with a dwelling time of over 45 days. Therefore, a pre-retrieval CT may be helpful in predicting CR of IVC filters with long dwelling times.
하천수에서 LC-ESI-MS/MS에 의한 극미량 농약류 및 합성원료의 동시분석법

하천수 중에 7가지의 농약류(2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 메소밀, 알디캅, MCPA, molinate, 카바릴, 카보퓨란)와 2가지의 합성원료(quinoline, 비스페놀-A)를 액체크로마토그래피 전자분무 이온화 질량분석법(liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry, LC-ESI-MS/MS)을 사용하여 분석하였다. 분석물질들은 고체상 추출법(solid-phase extraction, SPE)을 사용하여 추출하였다. 용리액은 질소가스로 농축하였다. 잔여물에 30% 메탄올 수용액 100 μL를 재 용해시켜 0.2 μm PTFE 실린지 필터로 거른 후 그 일부를 LC-ESI-MS/MS에 직접 주입하여 분석하였다. 확립된 조건에서 검정곡선은 0.997 이상의 상관계수를 갖는 직선성을 보였다. 정량한계는 0.002~0.011 μg/L 이었고, 정밀도는 16.4% 이하였다. 또한 정확도는 84~107%의 범위를 보였고, 회수율은 56.2~98.6% 값을 나타내었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 분석법을 실제 하천수 분석에 적용하였다. A liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry method (LC-ESI-MS/MS) was used for determining seven pesticides (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, methomyl, aldicarb, 2-methyl- 4-chlorophenoxy- acetic acid, molinate, carbaryl and carbofuran) and two synthetic materials (quinoline and bisphenol-A) in surface water. The analytes were extracted using solid-phase extraction (SPE). The eluate was concentrated by nitrogen gas. 100 microliters of 30% (v/v) methanol aqueous solution were used to dissolve the residue and an aliquot of the reconstituted solution was directly injected into LC-ESI-MS/MS after the filtration using 0.2 μm polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) syringe filter. Under the established condition, the calibration curves of the analytes were linear with correlation coefficients of above 0.997. The quantification limit was 0.002~0.011 μg/L and the relative standard deviations were less than 16.4%. In addition, accuracy was in the range of 84~107% and the recoveries were values between 56.2 and 98.6%. In this study, the developed method was applied to the analysis of real surface water samples.
Measurement of 1,4-dioxane in surface water by headspace GC-MS

1,4-Dioxane was classified as a Group 2B carcinogen by the International Agency for Research onCancer. The compound was measured in surface water with a headspace gas chromatographic mass spectrometricdetection. A 5 mL water sample was placed in a 10 mL headspace vial and saturated with NaCl, and thesolution was spiked with 1,4-dioxane-d8 as an internal standard and sealed with a cap. Water samples werecollected from twenty-two basins of Gum-River on June and September 2012, respectively. As a result, 1,4-dioxane was detected in the concentration range of 0.49-43.0 μg/L (mean 2.0 μg/L) in the frequency of about30% in surface water samples.

Domestic district heating system needs safety management guidelines using the change of surface temperature to detect damages to buried heat pipes. This paper performed numerical analyses on the temperature change of ground surface due to the burial and leakage of heat pipes. Temperature difference between the ground surface above the buried heat pipes and the surrounding surface rises to a crescendo between 3 am and 8 am. It is more significant in winter rather than in summer. Low groundwater level magnifies the temperature increase of the ground surface by the heat pipe, which is smaller in the asphalt pavement than in the bare soil. Without leakage of the buried heat pipe, the temperature increment on the ground surface by the heat pipe is within 3.0°C in the bare soil and 3.5°C in the asphalt pavement. Leakage of the supply heat pipe in the bare soil increases the temperature on the ground surface gradually in the summer but rapidly in the winter. Asphalt pavement shows a lower increment and increasing rate of the temperature on the ground surface due to pipe leakage than bare soil surface. And leakage on both sides of the supply pipe takes 1-2 days for the temperature difference from the surrounding soil surface to reach 10°C.
지표수에서 GC/MS에 의한 25개 준휘발성유기화합물의 극미량 분석

A gas chromatography-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) method was developed for determining 25 semivolatile organic compounds in water. A 1.0 L water sample was placed in a separatory funnel and saturated with NaCl, and the solution was extracted two times with 40 mL of methylene chloride. Under the established condition, the linear quantification range was 0.02-800 ng/L and the relative standard deviation was less than 15%. The method was used to analyze 16 surface water samples collected from various regions in Gum-River. The samples revealed SVOC concentrations in the range of 0.02-96.8 ng/L. Maximum concentrations of VOCs detected were not exceeded the EPA or Germany guidelines in any of the samples. The developed method may be valuable for monitoring SVOCs in water.

Suprofen is a new non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug. There have been reports of 308 cases of suprofeninduced acute renal failure probably due to the crystallization of uric acid within the renal tubles in the United States of America. Three cases of suprofen-induced acute renal failure were presented with a review of the literature. This renal failure is non-oliguric and accompanied by severe flank pain, nausea and vomiting within hours of first dose.
HS-SPME-GC/MS에 의한 지표수에서 ng/L 농도 수준의 37개 휘발성유기화합물의 동시 분석

A method to detect 37 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in surface water was described based on headspace solid-phase micro extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. VOCs in water were vaporized for 30 min at 40 °C in a headspace vial and adsorbed on 85 μm carboxen-polydimethylsiloxane. Under the established condition, the lowest quantification limit was 4.1-96 ng/L by using 4.0 mL water sample, and the relative standard deviation was less than 15% at concentrations of 0.05 and 0.50 μg/L. The detection limits meet lower concentration than 1/10 of the water quality criteria for VOCs established by the US EPA or Germany. The LOQ is a sensitivity which the monitoring for the establishing water quality criteria requires. When the proposed method was used to analyze the target compounds in sixteen surface water samples and total 16 VOCs were detected in surface water samples collected from Gum-River. Maximum concentrations of VOCs detected were not exceeded the EPA or Germany guidelines in any of the samples.
