        광주비엔날레 인력 구조 및 교육 현황을 통해 본 문화인력양성의 과제

        The Gwangju Biennale is an international event that exhibits contemporary art. In a broad sense, the Biennale is regarded as a complete product of contemporary culture and art that is generated through works of contemporary art. Consumers can experience a numerous amount of cultural services during the Gwangju Biennale. In as much, this also implies that the Gwangju Biennale should expand its horizons, up until now limited to professionals in the field of art. This action will foster local citizens to play specific roles in contributing to the Gwangju Biennale. They could provide a better understanding of Gwangju and the Gwangju Biennale while transforming the city and local culture surrounding the Biennale site into assets as well. The ultimate strategy is to foster “cultural mediators” at the Gwangju Biennale. By enhancing the means by which visitors can appreciate culture through creating a communication channel between cultural products and users through the cultural mediators, this will allow for users to create their own cultural knowledge base, layer by layer. In fact, when the personnel structure of the Gwangju Biennale is reviewed, hundreds of professionals who participate each year are building field experience, including the Secretariat staff, volunteers, docents, exhibit interns and assistants, installation and removal assistants, human resources for festivals, and other various areas. The event is shifting from an artist and curator driven function to a venue for cultural participation and a gateway and gathering place for many potential professionals seeking their life’s work in the creation of culture and art, cultural planning (production), and art administration. Meanwhile, training programs for specific targets are also offered by identifying pivotal areas where contemporary art and users intersect. They include art & film lectures, contemporary art classes open to citizens, the Docent Training Program (a curriculum training docents to help visitors appreciate exhibits), and a Teacher Training Program for art teachers. The Gwangju Biennale needs to take another look at the importance of “human-power development and education” while establishing a more comprehensive and integrated policy in the context of offering quality as a return to improve Gwangju’s local culture. It is hoped that those participating directly and indirectly in the Gwangju Biennale, which is considered a foundation of education and field training and a training center of culture-oriented personnel for Gwangju, will further educate cultural leaders and serve a lasting role in the successful hosting of the Gwangju Biennale. They will be assets to Gwangju, a cradle of culture, and the program can serve as a model for creating synergy.

        코퍼스 언어학적 분석을 통한 초·중등 영어 교과서의 연계성 연구: 초등학교 6학년과 중학교 1학년 교과서를 대상으로

        This study aimed to identify the continuity between the elementary school English textbook and the middle school English textbook. For this study, the 6th grade elementary school English textbook(E6) and the 1st grade middle school English textbook(M1), which are of the 7th national curriculum, were analyzed. The continuity of the each textbook was verified by the learning volume and difficulty level. In respect of the learning volume, the words in the textbooks were counted. The frequency of words, the length of sentences and sentential syntactic complexity were calculated in respect of the difficulty level. A corpus-based analysis was used. A corpus of each grade textbook was built respectively and NLPTools which is a corpus-analyzing program was used. The results of the study are as followings: First, the M1 contains noticeably higher numbers of words than the E6, particularly in the area of written language. Second, the M1 puts too much emphasis on listening and reading, not on speaking. Third, excessive new words appears in the M1. Fourth, there are fewer words with high-frequency in the M1 and relatively more words with high-frequency in the E6. Fifth, the length of sentences increases sharply from the 6th grade in elementary school to the 1st grade in middle school, particularly in the reading section. Lastly, the sentences in high syntactic complexity are presented in quite a few frequencies in the M1. Compound sentences and complex sentences are seen in the M1 for the first time. Some of them are too long and difficult for students to understand.

        Claudin 11 regulates bone homeostasis via bidirectional EphB4-EphrinB2 signaling

        Claudins (Cldns) are well-established components of tight junctions (TJs) that play a pivotal role in the modulation of paracellular permeability. Several studies have explored the physiologic aspects of Cldn family members in bone metabolism. However, the effect of Cldn11, a major component of central nervous system myelin, on bone homeostasis has not been reported. In this study, we demonstrate that Cldn11 is a potential target for bone disease therapeutics as a dual modulator of osteogenesis enhancement and osteoclastogenesis inhibition. We found that Cldn11 played a negative role in the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand-induced osteoclast (OC) differentiation and function by downregulating the phosphorylated form of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), Bruton’s tyrosine kinase, and phospholipase C gamma 2, in turn impeding c-Fos and nuclear factor in activated T cell c1 expression. The enhancement of osteoblast (OB) differentiation by positive feedback of Cldn11 was achieved through the phosphorylation of Smad1/5/8, ERK, and c-Jun amino-terminal kinase. Importantly, this Cldn11-dependent dual event in bone metabolism arose from targeting EphrinB2 ligand reverse signaling in OC and EphB4 receptor forward signaling in OB. In agreement with these in vitro effects, subcutaneous injection of Cldn11 recombinant protein exerted anti-resorbing effects in a lipopolysaccharide-induced calvarial bone loss mouse model and increased osteogenic activity in a calvarial bone formation model. These findings suggest that Cldn11 is a novel regulator in bone homeostasis.

        Ziziphus jujuba mill. Extract Promotes Myogenic Differentiation of C2C12 Skeletal Muscle Cells

        Ziziphus jujuba Mill. (ZJM), a traditional folk medicine and functional food in South Korea and China, has been reported to having pharmacological activities against anti-cancer, anti-oxidative, and anti-obesity. However, the effect of ZJM related to myoblast differentiation has not been known. In this study, we investigated the effects and mechanism of ZJM on myogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells. ZJM promotes myogenic differentiation and elevates the formation of multinucleated myotube compared to the control group. ZJM significantly increased the mRNA and protein expression of MyHC1, myogenin and MyoD in dose- and time-dependent manner. Interestingly, ZJM significantly inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of protein degradation markers, atrogin-1 and MuRF-1, in dose- and time-dependent manner. Taken together, our data suggest that ZJM is a potential functional candidate for muscle growth and strength by promoting myogenic differentiation.

        재발 혈전저혈소판혈증자색반병에서 Rituximab을 이용한 치료 경험 1예

        Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare medical condition characterized by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, neurologic manifestations, and infrequently, renal involvement. In many cases, TTP is associated with deficiency of the von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease, ADAMTS13, and treatment with plasma exchange is effective in the majority of patients. We report a patient with acute TTP in whom remission was not achieved by initial treatment consisting of plasma exchange and corticosteroids. In view of the severe autoantibody-mediated ADAMTS-13 deficiency, treatment was initiated with rituximab, a chimeric monoclonal antibody directed against the CD 20 antigen present on B lymphocytes. The patient received 4 weekly infusions of rituximab (375 mg/㎡). Four weeks after the last infusion of rituximab, a complete clinical and laboratory remission was documented. We conclude that rituximab should be considered in patients with TTP with acquired ADAMTS-13 deficiency, who fail to respond to standard treatment with plasma exchange and corticosteroids. Rituximab may result in a lowered requirement for plasmapheresis and avoid the complications of salvage immunosuppressive therapy.

        Baicalein이 골수유래대식세포의 파골세포 분화에 미치는 효과

        현대사회가 급속한 노령화 시대에 접어들면서 뼈 건강에 대한 중요성이 증가됨으로써 최근, 천연물을 이용한 골질환의 치료제를 개발하기 위한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. Baicalein은 기존에 항암, 항염증, 항산화의 효과가 있고, MC3T3-E1 조골세포주의 분화를 촉진하며, RAW264.7세포주의 분화는 억제한다는 보고가 있다. 그러나 골수유래대식세포를 이용한 파골세포 분화의 억제기전에 대해서는 정확히 알려진 바가 없다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 골수유래대식세포의 파골세포 분화에 있어 baicalein의 억제기전을 밝히고, 골수기질세포의 조골세포 분화에 미치는 영향을 탐색하기 위한 실험을 진행하였다. 파골세포 분화를 위해 골수유래대식세포를 사용하여 분화, mRNA 및 단백질 발현을 확인하였다. 조골세포 분화를 위해 골수기질세포를 사용하여 분화, ALP활성 및 미네랄 침착능을 확인하였다. Baicalein은 골수유래대식세포에서 RANKL로 유도한 파골세포로의 분화를 세포독성 없이 농도 의존적으로 억제하였다. 억제기전으로는 Akt, JNK, PLCγ2의 인산화를 억제하였고, NF-κB의 활성화를 억제하여 파골세포 분화의 필수 유전자인 c-Fos 및 NFATc1의 발현 역시 억제하였다. 또한 TRAP, OSCAR, cathepsin K와 DCSTAMP의 mRNA 수준의 발현을 감소시켰다. 이와 더불어, baicalein이 골 형성의 기능을 갖는 조골세포의 분화를 촉진하는 효과를 골수기질세포에서 확인하였다. Baicalein은 골수유래대식세포에서 파골세포 분화를 억제하고, 동시에 골수기질세포를 이용한 조골세포 분화를 높이는 양면적인 효과를 가지는 물질로, 향후 골 소실 질환 치료제 개발에 중요 후보물질이 될 것으로 사료된다. As prediction of rapidly aging society, bone health is considered increasingly important and received more attention than ever. Bone health is regulated by balancing between bone resorptive osteoclasts and bone formative osteoblasts. Disruption of balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts results in bone disease. Natural products have recently received much attention as an alternative tool for the development of novel therapeutic strategy. Baicalein is reported it has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Baicalein also has been known that it has both promotive effect on MC3T3-E1 cell line and inhibitory effect on RAW 264.7 cell line. However, the inhibitory mechanism of baicalein using bone marrow derived macrophages (BMMs) on osteoclast differentiation remains not clear. In this study, the suppressive mechanism by baicalein on osteoblast differentiation was evaluated. Bicalein inhibited receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation in BMMs in a dose dependent manner without any toxicity. Baicalein suppressed phosphorylation of protein kinaseB (Akt), c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) and phosphoinositide-specific phospholipaseCγ2 (PLCγ2). Furthermore, Baicalein suppressed the induction of RANKL-induced c-Fos and Nuclear factor of activated T cell c1 (NFATc1), essential genes on osteoclastogenesis. In BMMs, Bicalein inhibited the mRNA expression of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), osteoclast-associated receptor (OSCAR), cathepsinK, dendritic cell-specific transmembrane protein (DCSTAMP). Moreover, baicalein promoted differentiation of osteoblast on bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). Taken together, these results suggest that baicalein has a potential for treating bone lytic diseases, such as osteoporosis, periodontitis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

        증례 : 소화기 ; 혈액 담즙증으로 진단된 간내 담관 내 유두모양 담관암 1예

        담관 내 유두모양 종양은 드문 질환으로 흔히 재발성 폐쇄성 황달이나 우상복부 동통, 담관염 등의 증상으로 나타난다. 혈액담즙증으로 발현하는 경우는 극히 드문 것으로 알려져 있다. 저자들은 담관 유두종에서의 혈액담즙증을 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이며 원인 미상의 혈액담즙증 환자에서 담관확장이 관찰되는 경우 담도경 검사를 시행하여 담관 유두종에 의한 출혈을 감별하여야 한다. Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (biliary IPN) is a rare disease characterized by multicentric proliferation of adenomatous epithelium within the bile ducts. The common clinical manifestations are recurrent abdominal pain, jaundice, and acute cholangitis. We report a case of hemobilia caused by biliary IPN. A 59-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of hemobilia of unknown origin. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiography revealed dilatation of the S6 segmental duct with an ovoid-shaped intraductal mass. Percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopy showed multiple papillary masses with bleeding in the S6 segmental duct. The patient underwent a right lobectomy, and the pathology revealed a well differentiated intraductal papillary adenocarcinoma. (Korean J Med 77:338-342, 2009)

        Yellow nail syndrome is a rare cause of pleural effusions. This syndrome is characterized by yellow discoloration of nails, lymphedema, and respiratory disorders, including pleural effusion, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, and chronic sinusitis. The etiology of this syndrome is obscure, but the pathogenesis seems to be related with impaired lymphatic drainage. We report a case of yellow nail syndrome in a 70-year-old female with the typical clinical findings (yellow discoloration of nails, lymphedema, and chronic pleural effusion) of this disorder and with proven lymphatic obstruction on lymphoscintigraphy.
