The Discourse of Non-Regular Employment Policies: Comparative Analysis between South Korea and Japan

Vol.16 No.1

This article explores how policy discourse and ideas have influenced the policies towards non-regular employment in South Korea and Japan through discursive analysis. Both countries have experienced significant labor market reforms since the 1990s, leading to an increase in non-regular employment. However, there was a difference in how each country set the discourse around non-regular employment resulting in different policy responses. South Korea and Japan went through the periods of policies that emphasized flexible labor during their periods of economic crises. Yet, Japan has emphasized labor market flexibility and expanded the use of non-regular employment, framing it as a means to diversify employment forms. In contrast, Korea has focused more on protecting non-regular employment and reducing social inequality. It has been more cautious in its approach to non-regular employment. But at the same time they couldn’t forgo the ideas of labor market flexibility for its economic growth. There was a slight turn in the policy discourse after the 2008 financial crisis. After 2008, Japan shifted its focus towards providing safety nets and support for non-regular workers, while also aiming to diversify regular employment. Korea also has sought to improve employment stability and reduce discrimination, and yet still promoted pro-business policies emphasizing flexible labor policies. Such different policy discourse have led to different policy responses and views of non-regular employment in Korea and Japan.

2022 Human Ecology Research(HER) Vol.60 No.3

This study examined the moderated mediating impact of entrapment and emotional support from peers in the relationship between academic stress and suicidal ideation among middle-school students. The participants consisted of 214 middle-school students in the first to third grades from four middle schools located in Seoul, Gyeong-gi, Chun-cheon, and Jeonnam. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and the Process Macro Model versions 4, 1, and 14. The results of this study were as follows. First, academic stress did not directly influence suicidal ideation; however, entrapment mediated the relationship between academic stress and suicidal ideation. Second, emotional support from peers moderated the mediating effect of entrapment in the aforementioned relationship. This means that if students perceived emotional support from peers, then academic stress had a smaller impact on suicidal ideation through entrapment. These findings highlight the importance of decreasing levels of academic stress and entrapment to prevent suicidal ideation among middle-school students. They also suggest that enhancing students' emotional support networks with their peers could be an effective way of reducing suicidal ideation when students feel high levels of entrapment and academic stress.

Psychometric Investigation of the Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale, Second Edition, Short Form among the Korean Youth Population

2022 Korean Journal of Clinical Psychology Vol.41 No.2

The Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale, Second Edition (RCMAS-2) has long been used to measure anxiety levels in youth. Its introduction of a 10-item short form has enriched the efficiency and applicability of the scale; however, more re- search is warranted to elucidate its psychometric properties. This study aims to investigate the factor structure and the mea- surement invariance of the RCMAS-2 short form (RCMAS-2 SF) in Korean youth. In total, 1,525 participants from seven different cities of South Korea were included in the analysis (Mean Age = 12.49, SD = 2.54). After randomly assigning partici- pants into two groups, we consecutively performed exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The results of both analyses demonstrated that pediatric anxiety assessed using the RCMAS-2 SF is composed of two distinct latent factors: physiological anxiety and cognitive anxiety. Furthermore, the results supported strong invariance across gender and age. The RCMAS-2 SF score also showed good indices of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and concurrent validity. These findings highlight that the scale can be widely used as a time-efficient screening tool that enables valid score comparisons between boys and girls of different ages.

Vol.13 No.6

In this study, we investigated the sense of high fear according to height with virtual body model in a virtual environment using non - transmissive head mounted display in relation to the reality of high-rise building's virtual reality contents. For this purpose, the virtual reality contents about watching down from the high-rise building and the user 's virtual body model which is composed of the lower body shape were produced. For the ergonomic evaluation, 18 stimulations were performed according to the six random heights and the presence of the virtual body after the presentation of the reference stimulus about 10m height in the virtual environment. In addition, a variance analysis was performed on the results of each factor, and a sub-test based on the Bonferroni correction was performed. As a result of the analysis, in the result of the height sense, the average view point of the virtual body display condition was evaluated to be higher than the condition of the virtual body notation or object display under all conditions according to the change of the viewpoint of height. This suggests that the user has a strong sense of presence as if he or she is in the virtual reality space. And, as a result of the analysis of the fear of a of heights, a significant difference was found in the main effect of virtual body display (F (1,29) = 10.201, p <0.05). In addition, the significance was confirmed by simple interaction (F (1,29) = 5.444, p <0.05) in the virtual body display and the virtual body display condition. Through this, it is confirmed that the expression of the user 's virtual body improves the reality of the head mounted display contents.

Vol.19 No.3

The trend of studying is changing, and it is not a place to study but also a new cultural environment. The study cafe, which is relatively free and comfortable compared to a stuffy library or reading room, is suitable for an unmanned system that can generate greater profits by reducing labor costs. However, the system that can manage this systematically is still insufficient and needs to be supplemented. In this paper, we developed an Android application that integrates the unattended study cafe and provides convenience to users through additional functions. The user and the manager are separated so that the user can use the desired study cafe in the corresponding region through reservation and inquiry of the seat. The manager manages seats and members and allows the outside of the cafeteria to check the current situation. In addition, community and noise measurements and member time visualization capabilities have been added to enhance application utilization.

Child Emotion Review Application Design with Design Thinking Empathizing Process

Vol.27 No.3

Background In recent years, it has been found that there has been an increase in mental illnesses in children and infants in Korea. According to existing findings and our observation, detailed feedback on children's emotional expression is essential for their growth and emotional health. Thus, to contribute in combatting this ongoing problem, the purpose of this paper is to design an application that can help review and monitor the emotions of 5-6-year-old children in order to improve their emotion regulation. By focusing on children's emotion regulation theory and design thinking methods, we designed a mobile application prototype with features intended to help children express their feelings and provide feedback for them. Through children’s direct participation and feedbacks during user testing, we were able to observe and analyze how the features and functions affect children's emotional expression. Methods This research is based on a qualitative study using design thinking methods where the data were collected through interviews and usability tests were conducted to measure the performance of the application and user satisfaction. The interviews were conducted to understand the behavioral characteristics of children aged 5 to 6. The findings were then used to determine and design of the elements and features of the application. After developing a prototype, usability tests were conducted with 7 children from South Korea, China, and Indonesia. Through interviews and surveys, insight and feedback to optimize the application were discovered. Result It has been found through our observation that overall, children between the age of 5 and 6 were interested in using the emotion review application. The presented emojis, designed as a potato character, played an important role in attracting children's interest. Moreover, this application simply reviewed the children's emotions and helped the parents to have a better understanding of the children and to improve parent-child communication. Thus, we can conclude that this application is able to help express children's emotions, and through utilizing the application, a positive relationship between children and parents can be formed. Conclusion The process of leading 5-6 years children to openly express their emotions and share their emotions was difficult. However, we found that if the children are visually interested in the mobile devices that they are familiar with or if there is active assistance from their parents, the process can proceed smoothly. Therefore, by utilizing an interesting form of emotion monitoring system for children combined with parents’ participation and support, children‘s emotion development can be strengthened and therefore can help with emotion regulation and emotional health.
