유전자 재조합체는 상동염색체간의 예정된 DNA 가닥 전이와 교환이 이루어지는 상동염색체 재조합 과정에 의하여 생성된다. 이 재조합 경로는 DNA 이중 가닥 절단(double-strand breaks, DSBs)에 의해서 개시되며, 전이 과정의 중간단계에서 DNA의 구조적 변이 중간체인 단일 가닥 침투(single-end invasions, SEIs)와 이중 홀리데이 접합(double-Holliday junctions, dHJs)이 형성되어 교차성(crossover, CO) 혹은 비교차성(non-crossover, NCO) 결과물이 만들어진다. 본 연구는 이중 가닥 절단, 단일 가닥 침투, 이중 홀리데이 접합과 같은 재조합 중간체와 재조합 결과물의 구조분석에 초점을 두고, 이를 출아효모에서 인위적으로 이중 가닥 절단을 발생시킬 수 있는 HIS4LEU2 "hot spot" 을 이용한 물리적 분석방법으로 감수분열 재조합 중간체를 규명하였다. 물리적 분석을 위하여 동조화 된 세포에 감수분열을 유도한 후 hot spot 자리를 인식하는 제한효소를 처리하면, 재조합 중간체를 형성하고 있는 DNA 단편들을 Southern 분석법을 통해 탐지 및 정량 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 이 시스템으로 감수분열에서 이중가닥 절단으로부터 기인하는 단일 가닥 침투, 이중 홀리데이 접합 그리고 교차성/비교차성 재조합체로 전이되는 DNA의 구조 다형을 분석할 수 있음을 제시한다. During meiosis, genetic recombinants are formed by homologous recombination accompanying with the programmed double-strand breaks (DSBs) and strand exchanges between homologous chromosomes. The mechanism is generated by recombination intermediates such as single-end invasions (SEIs) and double-Holliday junctions (dHJs), and followed by crossover (CO) or non-crossover (NCO) products. Our study was focused on the analysis of meiotic recombination intermediates (DSBs, SEIs, and dHJs) and final recombination products (CO and NCO). We identified these meiotic recombination intermediates using DNA physical analysis under HIS4LEU2 "hot spot" system in budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. For DNA physical analysis, when the hot spot locus is recognized by restriction enzyme from synchronous meiotic cells, the fragmented DNA that are forming recombination intermediates can be detected and quantified through Southern hybridization analysis. Our study suggests that this system can analyze the structural change of recombination intermediates during DSB-SEI transition, double-Holiday junctions and crossover/non-crossover products in meiosis.

Background: Albuminuria is a surrogate marker of endothelial dysfunction and a predictor of cardiovascular events. Data are limited with regard to the relationship between albuminuria and subclinical atherosclerosis in a community-based cohort. We determined the association between albuminuria measured by the urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) and carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in a Korean rural population. Methods: We enrolled 1,369 healthy subjects older than 40 years (857 males and 518 females) with normal renal function and measured the CIMT. We excluded subjects with overt proteinuria (> 300 mg/day) or with treatment of diabetes mellitus,hypertension, dyslipidemia, and any cardiovascular disease. The subjects were stratified into the quartile value of the UACR (lowest quartile: UACR < 4.8 and highest quartile: UACR > 17.7). And we evaluate the relationship between UACR and CIMT by linear regression and logistic regression analysis. Results: Increasing quartile of the UACR had a stepwise increase in body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol profile [low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol and triglyceride], glucose, homeostratic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and C-reactive protein (all p values < 0.001). Maximal CIMT from the 1st to the 4th quartile values of the UACR were 0.74 ± 0.17, 0.77 ± 0.18, 0.78 ± 0.18, and 0.82 ± 0.21 mm, respectively (p < 0.001). In a multivariate regression model adjusted for age, sex, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, fasting blood sugar, waist circumference,adiponectin, HOMA-IR, high sensitive C-reactive protein, smoking, UACR showed a significant association with maximal CIMT (B = 0.014, R2 = 0.145, p = 0.002). Conclusion: Albuminuria measured by the UACR was significantly associated with both CIMT and traditional risk factors of atherosclerosis except for smoking in healthy Koreans.
Characterization of Product Fractions from Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Tetraselmis sp. Biomass

Microalgal bioenergy could replace fossil energy and reduces its greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of microalgae would be attractive conversion method by skipping the energy intensive drying step from wet biomass. HTL of Tetraselmis sp. was investigated over a water subcritical range of temperatures (250-350°C) and reaction times (up to 120 min), using a batch type reactor. The four different product fractions (gas, biocrude, aqueous phase, and solid) were quantified and analyzed. As a results, fatty acids were the most abundant components in biocrude, and N-containing compounds were increased as reaction temperature elevated. The maximum biocrude oil yield was 55.0% w/w of biomass at 350°C and 40 min reaction time, the yield of energy return as a biocrude was 80% of total energy of the starting biomass.

Background and Objectives: Transradial coronary angiography and intervention are increasing in frequency due to lower major vascular access site complications and the potential for early mobilization. However, the small size of the radial artery (RA) is a major limitation of this technique. A sheathless guiding catheter (GC) has recently been introduced that has a 1-2 French smaller diameter compared with the corresponding introducer sheath. This catheter also has a hydrophilic coating along its entire length. We evaluated the feasibility of using a sheathless GC in patients who have small radial arteries. Subjects and Methods: The procedural results were evaluated in patients with small radial arteries (diameter <2.3 mm) who underwent transradial coronary intervention using a sheathless GC. Results: A total of 25 (male: 9) patients with 29 lesions were enrolled. The mean RA diameter was 1.81±0.26 mm. 44% of the patients had stable angina and 50.0% had acute coronary syndrome. The procedural success rate was 93.1%. Two patients (6.9%) had chronic total occlusive lesions that could not be crossed with a guide-wire despite good guiding support. An intravascular ultrasound could be used for all of the treated lesions. Multi-vessel intervention was performed in 29.2% of the patients. Two bifurcated lesions were treated with a kissing balloon technique, and one with a modified T-stenting technique. No catheter related complications were reported. Conclusion: The use of a sheathless GC is feasible in patients with small radial arteries without catheter related complications.
성공적 노화를 위한 양손 운동 듀오콕 프로그램의 적용 및 효과성 검정: 양측 운동

Objective: This study was conducted with the aim of verifying the effectiveness of the duocock exercise, which is being utilized at the newly developed site to promote balance maintenance, basic physical strength and muscle strength among various age groups, in order to prevent fall and successfully age. Method: In this study, we conducted the duocock Exercise Program for 12 weeks (twice a week for an hour) for 10 senior citizens aged 65 or older (68.8±4.76 yrs, height: 15±6.00 cm) using Western-based health institutions in Daejeon, and compared the pre- and post- effects on basic physical strength and posture balance. All the data obtained from this study were used in statistical program SPSS 24 to perform paired t-test. The significance level for all statistical analyses was set at the level of p<0.05. Results: The 12 week duocock program showed statistically significant improvements in lower extremity muscle strength, equilibrium, agility, balance, and coordination in the basic fitness factors underlying successful aging (p<0.05). In addition, the trunk imbalance, which acts as a factor of falls and body balance, was statistically significant (p<0.05) and the posture balance of the sagittal plane also showed the effect of proper body adjustment. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, duocock provides a new exercise program in the form of a sustainable sport as a two-handed exercise, and is very effective for the elderly to improve their basic physical strength as well as to control postural imbalances, strengthen and increase muscle strength.

Accessory tubes are a congenital and developmental Mullerian duct abnormality of fallopian tubes. Due to their morphological abnormality, the accessory tubes predispose to the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy, infertility and tubal torsion among others and can lead to life-threatening conditions. We are reporting two recent cases of tubal pregnancies with accessory tubes together with literature reviews.
A Case of Hypocalcemia-Induced Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Hypocalcemia is a rare cause of dilated cardiomyopathy. Hypocalcemia induced cardiomyopathy is usually reversible when calcium level returns to normal range. We experienced a case of 57-year-old woman who had suffered from hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy and its consequence of dilated cardiomyopathy. After supplementation of calcium and vitamin D,symptoms of heart failure and LV function were recovered.
