Vol.8 No.2

In this paper, I examined how sweet potatoes are reproduced in modern Korean literature. Sweet potatoes represented in Korean literature expand their imagination by wearing clothes of various generations as mother, grandmother, father, occasionally gratitude lover, farmer of anger, struggle, gift, death and irony of life. Again, this can be broadly divided into two types. One is represented in the general and universal sense, and the other is represented in mediating the specificity of the local. In the former case, sweet potato is embodied as a objective correlation between memories and hometown, and creates an abstract space designed with the primitive mind of the urban people to survive in the city. In the latter case, it affirms the position of sweet potatoes pushed to the marginal area, and politicizes the inconvenience of the place, and embodied the concrete space that has now become. In this process, we can read the locality of sweet potatoes. The locality of the sweet potatoes evokes the paradox that they produce a plosive sound in a given position or a forced role from the outside and prove their existence.

Vol.47 No.-

This study examined the change of scenery and its meaning of Garibong-dong, which is a place where transnational and cultural negotiation occurs and a place created within the gap of a nation-state, from the horizon of physical and imaginative space. Garibong-dong is densely populated with ethnic Koreans who used to live in China. And ethnic Korean-Chinese immigrants inevitably accompany the process of endlessly repositioning and adjusting themselves within the relationships between China and Korea, Yanbian and Garibong. Especially, this study quoted the concept of 'translocal subjectivity' and contemplated on how Garibong implies the spatiality of translocality and how translocal subjectivity is implemented. So this study examined the scenery change and its meaning of Garibong-dong, which is the place densely populated with ethnic Korean-Chinese, and several horizons that imagine this place through literature text. "Yanbian street" created exotic scenery and received attention as multicultural space. As the subject of forming such space, ethnic Korean-Chinese people changed physical and social relationships, but on the other hand, this space revealed contradiction that strengthens domain during the process of deterritorialization and reterritorialization. Literary revival focuses on such point and critically reflects on the other side of Yanbian Street that became tourist sights.

2005 The Medical Journal of Chosun University Vol.30 No.2

Introduction: The mandible is one of frequent facial bone fracture due to anatomic configuration like the nose and zygoma. When the mandible fractures occured, displacement of segments developed by pulling of strong muscles. And so for reduction of fractured mandible, rigid fixation needs for prevention of displacement. Metal plates and screws are most appropriate device to obtain for prevention of displacement in case of mandible fracture. But metal devices are hampered by temperature sensitivity and interference with radio-graphic imaging, leading corrosion, inflammatory response, the effect of atrophy of cortical bone, the need for a subsequent operation for removal. To overcome drawbacks of metal rigid fixation devices, there had been a continuous research on the development of a bioabsorbable skeletal fixation system using polymers of polylactic and polyglycolic acid. Material and Method: One hundred sixty eight fractures of the mandible in 110 patients (84 male patients and 26 female patients) were treated by open reduction and internal fixation using bioabsorbable plates and screws (BiosorbFX^(R), Bionix Implants, Inc., Finland). The average age is 36.5 years old. Total number used absorbable devices and 972 (182 plates and 790 screws). Patients were evaluated during the follow-up period, which ranged from 1 to 30 months. Common fracture sites are para symphysis (26%), body (19%) and angle (18%) which are experienced. Intermaxillary fixation placed before operation but removed after internal fixation of absorbable devices. After 5 days from operation, temporomandibular joint movement are started. We encountered no significant intraoperative difficulties obtaining placement of the devices. Result: None of patients has been experienced any implant-related complication including fracture instability or relapse, or radiographic evidence of osteolysis except one case of delayed osteomyelitis and four cases of intraoral infections. Conclusion: Absorbable devices have many advantage, that are lower infection rates, satisfactory strength, no metallic irritation, no restrictive growth of the neurocranium in pediatric patients, only one surginal procedure. Absorbable devices have some problems, such as slow and expense. But we experienced good results using absorbable devices to mandible fracture, and these results indicate that the use of bioabsorbable implants can be considered routinely for the fixation of mandible fractures.

Vol.38 No.1

The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school teachers’ perception and the status of education program on science museum field trips by using a questionnaire (188 teachers) and interview (6 teachers). The results of the research are as follows. First, factors influencing elementary school teachers who choose the science museum as a place for field trips were ‘student’s interest’, ‘teacher’s own experience related to the science museum’, ‘science curriculum’, ‘suggestions from a fellow teacher’, ‘space available for field work’ and so on. Second, 82% of the respondents conducted pre-education program, but they mainly conducted safety education. Third, the teacher conducted post-education program less than pre-education program. In the post-education program, the most activities were to express and share knowledge and experience gained from the science museum. Fourth, 52.2% of the teachers provided tasks or activity sheets during science museum field trips. Fifth, the teachers mainly served as safety guide. In addition, the teachers thought that safety guide was the most important role of teacher in science museum field trips. Sixth, the teachers thought that the method of viewing the science museum’s collection, which emphasizes the role of docent rather than the teacher, was more educational.
