A new Hibiscus syriacus variety, ‘Dasom’, was developed by radiation breeding using gamma ray exposure at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). Seeds of the original variety, ‘Hongsun’, were collected in 1993. These seeds were irradiated at 100 Gy dose and M1 seeds w ere planted in a f ield of the KAERI in 1994. Lines w ith preferred flower color t hat were going to be used for street trees were initially selected in 1998. Analyses of characteristics were conducted from 2005 to 2010. The 5-year-old ‘Dasom’ plants were approximately 106 ㎝ in height and averaged 19 branches, and thus were suitable for street trees. The flowers of ‘Dasom’ were semi-double type with medium red color and red eye spots. Petal length and width were about 4.0 ㎝ and 3.3 ㎝, respectively. Flower diameter was slightly small, at about 5.8 ㎝, because of highly overlapping petals. The flowering period of ‘Dasom’ was about 105 days, which was 6 days shorter than that of the original variety, ‘Hongsun’. However, the main charactersistics of ‘Dasom’ including leaf shape were similar to those of the original variety, ‘Hongsun’.
만성기침에 대한 한국 알레르기 전문의들의 인식과 진료 실태; 설문조사

Background: Chronic cough is a common but disabling respiratory symptom. While patients are frequently referred to allergists for the management of chronic cough, little is known about the perception and clinical practices of allergists on the management of chronic cough. Methods: We performed a questionnaire survey using e-mail and internet platform among the members of the Korean Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology (n=823). The members were asked to answer the questions regarding the diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough. Results: Questionnaires were completed and returned from 154 subjects (18.7%). There was a heterogeneity in the definitions (durations) of chronic cough, and only 62 subjects (40.3%) defined chronic cough when cough lasted more than 8 weeks. Most subjects (n=131, 85.1%) felt the need for Korean guidelines on chronic cough, while only 89 subjects (57.8%) used the other guidelines in their practice. Various diagnostic tests were used for the evaluations of chronic cough, and chest radiography, paranasal sinus radiography and spirometry were the most frequently performed for the management. Upper airway cough syndrome was perceived as the most common cause of chronic cough, followed by asthma, postinfectious cough and gastroesophageal reflux disease/laryngopharyngeal reflux. Moreover, treatment patterns of these most common clinical conditions differ among studied subjects. Conclusion: There were diverse patterns in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough among Korean allergists. Our results could assist in establishing guidelines and health policy on chronic cough management.

High performance $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ heterostructure metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) were fabricated using well-controlled delta-doping of boron and $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$/Si heterostructure epitaxal layers grown by reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition. In this paper, we report 1/f noise characteristics of the SiGe pMOSFETs measured under various bias conditions of the gate and drain voltages changing in linear operation regions. From the noise spectral density, we found that the gate and drain voltage dependence of the noise represented same features, as usually scaled with $f^{-1}$ However, 1/f noise was found to be much lower in the device with boron delta-doped layer, by a factor of $10^{-1}_10^{-2}$ in comparison with the device fabricated without delta-doped layer. 1/f noise property of delta-doped device looks important because the device may replace bipolar transistors most commonly embedded in high-frequency oscillator circuits.

본 논문은 인간이 직립 보행 시 무게의 분산을 고려하여 편안한 보행과 발목 교정을 할 수 있는 인솔 모델에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 인솔 제작에 있어서 과거에는 많은 부분이 수작업으로 이루어 졌지만, 최근에는 3차원 컴퓨터 그래픽을 이용하여 모델을 생성해서 제작하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 우리는 3차원 스캐너를 이용하여 발을 정밀하게 스캔하고, 스캔한 발 모델을 통해서 발과 인솔의 관계를 4개의 특징점을 이용하여 예측하였다. 이 예측된 인솔 모델은 3차원 프린터를 이용하여 인솔의 모양을 만들 수 있게 모델링 하였다. 이처럼 맞춤형 인솔 제작의 표준화된 방법을 제시함으로써 강인한 개인 맞춤형 자동 변형 인솔 모델을 제안하였다. 우리가 제안한 자동 인솔 변형 모델과 전문가가 생성한 인솔을 비교한 결과에서 평균 0.8cm의 오차율을 보이며, 아주 근소한 오차로 인솔 제작이 가능할 수 있다는 방법을 제시하였다. This paper describes an insole FFO(Functional Foot Orthosis) model for comfortable walking by considering weight distribution. There are many ways to make an insole FFO model such as using 3D computer graphics, or plaster manually. Thus, we proposed a standardized way to make an insole model, specifically called, robust and automatically personalized deformable insole model. Our proposed method showed 0.8cm average error compared between our proposed auto-deformable insole model and the other insole model manually deformed by experts. Therefore, our proposed method can be an efficient way to make a customized insole model with small error compared to the manually customized insole model.

There has been growing concern regarding the effects of ambient air pollution on asthma. Particulate matter (PM) is one of the major air pollutants affecting both general population and the patients with asthma. This paper reviews the recent evidence of the adverse effects of PM on the inception and morbidity of asthma. Epidemiological studies confirmed that short-term exposure to PM aggravated respiratory symptoms and lung function in asthma patients. Furthermore, PM induces acute exacerbations of asthma with increased risk of hospitalization and death. Long-term exposure to PM is responsible for new onset of asthma and lung function decline in both children and adults. Various mechanisms are involved in the effects of PM on airway including oxidative stress, augmentation of inflammation, promotion of allergen sensitization, induction of airway hyperresponsiveness, aggravation of rhinitis and DNA methylation. Special attention and care is needed for the patients with asthma to prevent the detrimental effects of PM. (Allergy Asthma Respir Dis 2015;3:313-319)

A new soybean cultivar ‘Wonhyun’, was developed by mutation breeding technique using a 250 Gy gamma ray at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) in 2010. ‘Wonhyun’ has black seed coat and much better agronomic performance than original variety ‘Paldal’. Their total yield (177.1kg/10a) is much higher than that of ‘Paldal’ (126.9 kg/10a). Also, 100 seed weight of Wonhyun was 27g compared to ‘Paldal’ (13.7g). Contents of 4 essential amino acids such as aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine, arginine and unsaturated fatty acid including linoleic and linolenic acid have much higher than ‘Paldal’. This cultivar is good for cooking with rice as improved functional ingredient soybean.

The cough reflex is a vital protective mechanism for the lower airways against aspiration, but when dysregulated, it becomes a clinical problem. Indeed, chronic cough is an important clinical issue as it is common in the general population and causes consid-erable morbidity. Anatomic diagnostic protocols were the first breakthrough in the management of patients with chronic cough; however, as systematic approaches are not always successful, a new paradigm of cough hypersensitivity syndrome has been proposed. The introduction of this paradigm has provided new opportunities for managing chronic cough, including development of new cough assessment tools and effective cough control therapies. However, it also warranted re-appraisal of existing clinical evi-dence and refinement of our clinical pathways. Against this background, international and domestic evidence-based practice guide-lines based on a strict methodology have been published recently. In this review, we introduce clinical approaches based on the con-cept of cough hypersensitivity syndrome and discuss key aspects of recently published guidelines for chronic cough in adults. In this paper, a novel overmodulation strategy for space-vector PWM(SVPWM) inverters to utilize dc link voltage fully is presented. The proposed strategy uses the concept of SVPWM based on the zero sequence signal(offset voltage) injection principle. So, by modifying the pole voltage simply, the linear control of inverter output voltage over the whole overmodulation range can be achieved easily. The validity of the proposed strategy is confirmed by the experimental results.<br/> <br/>

In this paper, the static overmodulation is proposed for the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategy increases a fundamental output voltage and improves a voltage utilization up to the maximum in the overmodulation range. The linear modulation range and static overmodulation range are defined in the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategies which increase a voltage utilization until the 4-step mode by linearization of the output voltage in overmodulation range are proposed. To maintain a linearity of the relation between a reference voltage and a fundamental output voltage, this paper suggests a compensation voltage, whose magnitude or phase is modified to the proposed control scheme. Simulation and experimentation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
