      • Pharmacokinetics and Biodistribution of a pGT2-VEGF Plasmid DNA After Administration in Rats

        Intramyocardial administration of gene therapy vectors expressing angiogenic factors have been attempted as an alternative to conventional surgical methods for the management of myocardial ischemia. In this study, we have developed the pGT2-VEGF, a plasmid DNA vector expressing human VEGF165, for the management of ischemic cardiovascular disease and investigated in vivo pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of pGT2-VEGF after intramyocardial and intravenous administration in rats. A high concentration of pGT2-VEGF was observed in the heart after intramyocardial injection of 300 μg, which is in line with the assumption that direct intramyocardial delivery enables extended localization at the administration site. Leakage of the pGT2-VEGF to the blood circulation was observed after intramyocardial injection, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 3.8 μg min/mL, as compared with 37.3 μg min/mL after intravenous injection of the same dose. The pGT2-VEGF concentration in blood peaked at 5 minutes after intramyocardial administration and declined rapidly to undetectable levels by 2 hours post-administration. In tissue distribution studies, pGT2-VEGF peaked at 5 minutes post-administration in various organs but was undetectable at 2 hours in all organs except heart, lung, and liver. Taken together, the results suggest that intramyocardial-delivered pGT2-VEGF was degraded rapidly in vivo and mainly persisted in target tissues, the heart. In addition, intramyocardial-administered pGT2-VEGF was expressed for longer periods than the persistence of the pGT2-VEGF plasmid DNA in a target tissue. Therefore, a direct myocardial injection of pGT2-VEGF might be useful for local therapeutic angiogenesis.

      • 분변토를 이용한 VOCs 흡착에 관한 기초연구

        This study was carried out two point view that reuse of sludge and adsorption of benzene, toluene and o-xylene of VOCs in cast, carbonized cast and activated carbon. The cation exchange capacity of cast and carbonized cast were 59.2, 112 meq/l00g, respectively. The specific surface were 560, 800 ㎡/g, respectively. The average removal rates of benzene by 50g cast of 50% hydrous cast, anhydrous cast, carbonized cast, activated carbon were 15.0, 41.2, 88.2, 99.4% in 60min retention time. The average removal rates of toluene by 50g cast of 50% hydrous cast, anhydrous cast, carbonized cast, activated carbon were 12.5, 34.2, 88.2, 99.5% in 60min retention time. The average removal rates of o-xylene 50g cast of 50% hydrous cast, anhydrous cast, carbonized cast, activated carbon were 8.8, 28.5, 84.8, 98.1% in 60min retention time. The adsorption efficiency of test absorbent was in order of benzene > toluene > o-xylene.

      • 저수지 유입하천의 유역형태에 따른 저수지 오염도 비교

        This study was carried out to understand, compare and analyze pollution of seven reservoirs in Suwon area divided into three areas, urban area(UA), mixed area of urban and non-urban area(MA) and non-urban area(NA), with drainage area shape of inflow stream. The result of comparison and analysis about COD concentration of three areas was that the pollution level of urban area and mixing area were high as 10.1 mg/L and 10.9 mg/L respectively, but non-urban area was relatively low as 6.9 mg/L. The reason of these results is thought that the sewage and industry sewage flowed in stream from urban area were flowed in reservoirs finally and made increase the pollution level of reservoirs. The result of this study meant that the contribution rate of point sources in pollution sources of reservoirs in Suwon area was higher than that of non-point sources when excluding duration of rainfall and showed that we needed to enhance management for point source of UA to improve the water quality in reservoirs.

      • 하악구치부 유리단결손의 임플란트 수복에 관한 임상적 연구

        Many long-term study have demonstrated the successful use of osseointegrated implants to replace posterior teeth in the partially dentate patients. Implant were recently selected as the treatment of the choice for this population, instead of the previous resolves for the shortened dental arch (removable partial dentures, single or multiple cantilevers, or continued premolar occlusion). Advantages of patients with implant-supported prosthesis included an improved masticatory apparatus, reduced stress on the remaining anterior segments of the dentition, esthetics, comfort, and psychological benefits etc. But, there are many obstacle to implant placement in posterior mandible. The shape, quantity, and quality of bone in the mandible as anatomicla limitation and heavy occlusal force as mechanical disadvantage are significant factors in deciding which implant options possible. Consideration of these factors is necessary for the successful diagnosis and implant treatment of partially edentulous arches. PURPOSE : The purpose of this retrospective longitudinal study is to evaluate the long-term outcome, determinants of outcome, and the type and prevalance of prosthetic complications in the series of the patients treated with implants in the partially edentulous posterior mandible. MATERIAL AND METHODS : A total of 107 consecutively placed implants were inserted in 38 partially edentulous patients and restored with single-tooth and fixed partial dentures restoration at Korea University Guro-hospital from April 1991 to December 1999. The patients ranged in age from 22 to 72 years, and 54% were female. We analysed statistically long-term outcome according to type. RESULTS : The results were as follows : 1. The overall outcome showed an implant success rate of 97.2% in posterior partially edentulous mandible 2. In the proportion of the fixture length ; 10mm (22.4%), 11.5-12.0mm (19.6%), 13.0mm (19.6%) fixture were respectively predominant in order. In the proportion of the fixture width ; 3.75mm (47.7%), 5.0mm (36.4%) were predominant in order. 3. According to surface types of fixture, success rate were pure titanium 95.9%, TPS coating 100%, HA coating 100%. 4. A total of the 107 implants showed 20 complications (18.7%) the most common complications (7cases) was loosening of the abutment screw and gold screw. 5. Prosthetic complications with regard to fixture number showed higher prevalence one implant (30%) two implant (12.9%), three implant (11.1%) in order. 6. According to the prosthetic type, complications of screw type were 10 cases and cementation type were 4 cases. CONCLUSION : This study offers efficacious results of implant supported fixed prostheses as an alternative to traditional prostheses in patients with posterior partial edentulism. Therefore, we think that implant prosthesis is a relatively safe and predictable method for restoring partially posterior edentulous areas.

        전치부 개교합을 가진 골격성 제 Ⅲ급 부정교합 환자에 있어서 하악지 시상분할 골절단술후 술후 안정성에 관한 평가

        The purpose of this study is to assess the postoperative stability and the tendency of relapse after both sagittal split ramus osteotomy in skeletal class III with anterior open bite. This retrospective study was based on the examination of 15 patients, 6 males and 9 females, with a mean age 23.1 years. The patients were divided into two groups based on the amount of preoperative overbite(group I:<1mm, group II:≥1mm). Serial lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken within 2 weeks preoperatively, within 1 week postoperatively and at a follow up period that ranged from 7 to 24 months postoperatively. All cephalometric radiographs were traced and digitized using the Quick ceph image Pro for analysis. And then, horizontal and vertical changes of reference points(B point, Pogonion, L1) were assessed by the linear measurements in millimeters on both axes. The results were as follows : 1 Mean horizontal relapses were 0.67±0.93mm (11%) at B point (P<.05) and 0.81±1.01mm (13.2 %) at Pogonion (P<.01). 2, Mean vertical relapses were 0.63±1.62mm (33.3%) at B point and 0.53±1.95mm (31.4%) at Pogonion (P>.05) 3. The mean angular change of occlusal plane to SN was 0.24±1.19 (P>.05) and that of mandibular plane to SN was 1.03±1.85 (P<.05). 4. There was correlation between the extent of preoperative overbite and the postsurgical relapse at B point and Pogonion. 5. There was no correlation between the amount of surgically produced horizontal movement and the postoperative horizontal relapse at B point.

        갈색 세포종은 신경내분비종양의 하나로 VIP를 포함한 다양한 신경내분비 펩타이드를 분비할 수 있다. 저자들은 만성 설사와 체중 감소를 주소로 내원한 환자에서 좌측 부신에 VIP를 생성하는 갈색 세포종을 진단하여 성공적으로 제거한 후 증상이 모두 호전된 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino acid peptide, which may cause secretory diarrhea by stimulating the production of adenylate cyclase. Neuroendocrine tumors, secreting vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), are almost always of a pancreatic in origin. However, a pheochromocytoma may produce several neuropeptides, containing VIP, as they are considered to be neuroendocrine tumors. A 57-year-old woman, who presented with chronic watery diarrhea, hypokalemia, weight loss and a left adrenal mass, is described. Histologically, the tumor was diagnosed as a pheoch-romocytoma, with ganglioneuronal differentiation, and was histochemically confirmed to produce a vasoactive intestinal polypeptide. A left adrenal VIP-producing pheochromocytoma was successfully resected. After surgery, her diarrhea subsided and the electrolytes, affected neuroendocrine hormone levels, blood pressure and blood sugar level were normalized (J Kor SOC Endocrinol 18:227-231, 2003).

        정자기장과 맥동전자기장이 MC3T3-E1 세포의 ALP 및 DNA 활성도에 미치는 영향

        정자기장과 맥동전자기장이 배양 조골세포에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 MC3T3-E1세포를 각 자기장하에서 배양하여 ALP활성도와 DNA의 합성능을 평가한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 정자기장을 가한 군에서 자석을 1,2,3개 가한 군(51~114.8mT)에서 대조군에 비하여 ALP의 유의성있는 증가가 나타났으며(p<0.05), 자석을 4개, 5개 가한 군(150mT)에서는 대조군에 비하여 ALP활성도에 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 2. 맥동성 전자기장에서는 대조군에 비하여 ALP활성도에 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 3. DNA합성능은 정자기장과 맥동성 전자기장을 가한 군 모두 대조군에 비하여 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이상의 결과 정자기장에 의한 교정력은 골세포의 대사과정에 변화를 줄 수 있으므로, 치아이동에 어떠한 영향을 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of magnetic field on cellular activity of MC3T3-E1 cells. The celular activity was monitored by alkaline phosphatase and DNA synthetic activity in control, static magnetic field and pulsed electromagnetic field groups. A static magnetic field and pulsed electromagnetic field groups. A static magnetic field was applied to the cell by placing one, two, three, foue, and five samarium-cobalt magnets above and below each cell plate for 24hours per day. A pulsed electromagnetic field with a frequency of 100 herz was applied for 10 hours per day. After 10 days of magnetic field exposure, there were increase of alkaline phosphatase activity in static magnetic field groups consisted of one, two and three magnetic groups. Alkaline phosphaatase activities were not significant increase in alkaline phosphatase activity compared to control. DNA synthetic activity in both static and pulsed electromagnetic field group were not significantly different from that in control group. The result of this study suggest that magnetic field could have effect on the metabolism of bone cells related to the cellular metabolic process.
