Spontaneous Hemoperitoneum in Pregnancy, an unprovoked (nontraumatic) intraperitoneal bleeding in pregnancy (up to 42 days postpartum), is associated with serious adverse pregnancy outcomes. A 33-year-old pregnant woman, para 0, was transferred to our hospital at 28weeks of gestation complaining of abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with hemoperitoneum based on ultrasonographyAn emergency laparotomy was performed, and the bleeding was confirmed to be caused by ruptured surface blood vessels on the uterine fundus. Spontaneous hemoperitoneum during pregnancy caused by rupture of uterine blood vessels is very rare. It requires rapid diagnosis and surgical treatment because it increases the morbidity of the fetus and mother. In most incidences of spontaneous hemoperitoneum during pregnancy, a cesarean delivery is performed along with a simultaneous emergency laparotomy.
Leukemic stem cell phenotype is associated with mutational profile in acute myeloid leukemia

Background/Aims: Understanding leukemic stem cell (LSC) is important for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment. However, association of LSC with patient prognosis and genetic information in AML patients is unclear. Methods: Here we investigated the associations between genetic information and the various LSC phenotypes, namely multipotent progenitor (MPP)-like, lymphoid primed multipotent progenitor (LMPP)-like and granulocyte-macrophage progenitors (GMP)-like LSC in 52 AML patients. Results: In secondary AML patients, MPP-like LSC was significantly higher than de novo AML (p = 0.0037). The proportion of MPP-like LSC was especially high in post-myeloproliferative neoplasm AML (p = 0.0485). There was no correlation between age and LSC phenotype. Mutations of KRAS and NRAS were observed in MPP-like LSC dominant patients, TP53 and ASXL1 mutations in LMPP-like LSC dominant patients, and CEBPA, DNMT3A and IDH1 mutations in GMP-like LSC dominant patients. Furthermore, KRAS mutation was significantly associated with MPP-like LSC expression (p = 0.0540), and TP53 mutation with LMPP-like LSC expression (p = 0.0276). When the patients were separated according to the combined risk including next generation sequencing data, the poorer the prognosis, the higher the LMPP-like LSC expression (p = 0.0052). This suggests that the dominant phenotype of LSC is one of the important factors in predicting the prognosis and treatment of AML. Conclusions: LSC phenotype in AML is closely associated with the recurrent mutations which has prognostic implication. Further research to confirm the meaning of LSC phenotype in the context of genetic aberration is warranted.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to design a model for computerized information system (CIS) based on nurses' demand for CIS. Methods: The process involves two steps: First, analysis of nurses' information requirements from which the data were collected from 230 nurses using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using MS-Excel Program. Second, designing a model for CIS to be utilized for diagnostic tests based on nurses' information requirements. Results: The results from questionnaires were scored using 4-point Likert scale and data analysis revealed that nurses use computerized system 2.66+0.58. and 3.37+0.52, respectively. The majority of the subjects(228/230) showed that CIS is highly needed and useful. The second step of the process include the information requirements of diagnostic tests were classified in to 3parts: obtaining clinical specimen, examination requests and reports of examination results. Operation process was classified into 2 parts: data entry and data inquiry. The model for CIS was designed under the principle of convenience and unified single screen. Conclusion: The new CIS will provide more convenience and satisfactory results to users in clinical situation and further improve the quality of medical care system.

Mandarin peel (MP) is a by-product occurred during citrus juice or other products processing. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the potential anti-obesity activity of an enzymatic extract of MP in inhibiting adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The enzymatic extract (MPCE) was prepared using the commercial food grade carbohydrase, Celluclast. Levels of lipid accumulation and triglyceride were significantly lower in MPCE treated cells than those in untreated cells. In addition, MPCE treatment reduced protein expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ), CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins α (C/EBPα), sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP 1), and fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP 4). These results suggest that MPCE possesses inhibitory effect on adipogenesis through down-regulating expression levels of adipogenesis-related proteins. Therefore, current findings demonstrate that MPCE possesses potent anti-obesity properties and could be a potential ingredient used in functional food industries.
Social Conditions of Village Democracy in South Korea

This paper aims to explore the social conditions for autonomy and democracy in the context of villages. In particular, it emphasizes village democracy as a new model of promoting civic participation while critically examining the existing community building model in Korea. As an alternative, village democracy has emerged to provide solutions for the problem of community building lacking democracy as well as resident autonomy with limited participation. Village democracy is a new model of citizen autonomy that has been experimented in Seongbuk-gu for the past two years. However, the determinants and the extent to which it has achieved socio-political success at community level of its achievements are yet to be further explored. Accordingly, the paper tries to examine the social conditions for village democracy as the most important foundation for autonomy and democracy.

본 연구는 감귤 가공공정 중에 발생하는 가공부산물인 감귤피의 산업적 이용성 및 유용성을 증대시키고자 효소적 추출법을 적용하여 추출물을 제조하고 항비만 활성을 측정하였다. 감귤피 효소적 추출물(MPCE)의 폴리페놀 함량은 이전의 연구에서 보고한 유기용매 추출물보다 높은 함량을 나타내었다. MPCE의 항비만활성을 알아보기 위해 지방세포 분화억제에 미치는 영향을 확인한 결과 MPCE는 농도 의존적으로 지방세포의 분화 및 지방축적을 감소시켰으며 이는 세포독성에 의한 것이 아님을 세포생존율 측정을 통해 확인하였다. 또한 MPCE는 adipogenesis 관련 전사인자인 C/EBPα, SREBP-1, PPARγ, FABP4의 단백질 발현을 감소시켰다. 이러한 결과들을 통해 MPCE는 adipogenesis 관련 전사인자의 단백질 발현 억제하여 지방세포의 분화 및 지방축적을 억제하였으며, 이를 통해 항비만 효과를 나타낸다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 MPCE는 비만 예방 효능을 가진 기능성 식품 소재로서의 활용 가치가 있는 것으로 판단되며, 보다 명확한 항비만효능을 확인하기 위해 추후 동물 실험 등에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. Small molecule semiconductors for organic photovoltaics: a truncation approach

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Solution-processable small molecule (SM) organic semiconductors for organic photovoltaics have been in the spotlight for several years. In particular, SM semiconductors have been developed in an attempt to control their film morphology, study their intermolecular interactions, and synthesize new electron donor and electron acceptor subunits. SMs have many advantages over polymers including well-defined molecular structures, monodispersity, and no batch-to-batch dependence. Although SM semiconductors can be designed by truncation from polymers, such examples have rarely been reported. Herein we designed SM semiconductors by truncating a representative polymer, Poly[4-(4,8-bis((2-hexyldecyl)oxy)benzo[1,2-<I>b</I>:4,5-<I>b</I>’]dithiophen-2-yl)-<I>alt</I>-benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole] (PBDTBT). Based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BT) was chosen as an electron acceptor subunit instead of thieno[3,4-<I>c</I>]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD). The SM semiconductors were end-capped with pyridine derivatives. Thermal, optical and electrochemical properties of these materials were examined to confirm the degradation temperature, the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels, and the band gaps. In particular, the benzyloxyl pyridine-capped semiconductor (SM1) exhibited power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.92% which is higher than those shown by the corresponding polymer PBDTBT (0.90% and 1.71%).</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> New small molecule semiconductors were designed by truncation of polymers. </LI> <LI> Various end‐capping groups were introduced into small molecule semiconductors. </LI> <LI> One of newly synthesized semiconductors shows higher PCE value than that of polymer. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
