소아대상 진료대기공간의 사인과 그래픽요소의 현황 및 사용자 의식조사

최근 자녀의 대한 관심이 고조되고, 환경오염으로 어린이 난치병의 증가로 인해 소아대상의료공간의 증대가 요구되고 있다. 또한 소아대상 환경을 더욱 풍요롭게 해주는 그래픽에 대한 관심도 고조되고 있다. 그러나 국내의 경우 어린이병원의 수는 부족하며, 어린이환자의 감성과 특성에 맞는 어린이병원이 거의 없어 대책마련이 시급하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국외 소아대상 진료대기공간 2곳(미국 필라델피아 어린이병원, 일본 큐슈대학병원)의 문헌조사를 바탕으로 대한민국의 소아대상 진료대기공간 6곳의 사인과 그래픽요소에 관한 사례조사를 실시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 그래픽의 양이 상대적으로 과다한 E병원과 상대적으로 적은 F병원에서 보호자와 어린이를 대상으로 소아대상 진료대기공간의 사인과 그래픽요소에 대한 의식조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 소아대상 진료대기공간이 대체로 어린이환자를 고려한 디자인으로 진행되고 있는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 하지만 산만한 캐릭터의 사용과 원색의 과도한 사용은아이들에게 피로감을 줄 염려가 있으므로 개선되어야 하며 소아대상 진료대기공간이 좀 더어린이환자에게 친근함과 편안함을 주는 장소의 역할을 할 수 있도록 다양한 개선안이 마련되어야 할 것으로 사료된다. Nowadays parents care for their children more than before, and the number of children having incurable disease has increased because of environmental pollution. This has increased the demand on hospitals for children. In addition, it has been heightened interest in the graphics which enrich the target environment. In Korea, however, the number of children`s hospitals is not enough and the hospitals hardly reflect children`s` emotion or characteristics. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on signs and graphic elements of six representative medical waiting rooms at children`s hospitals in Korea and of two foreign hospitals for children based on the literature review (Philadelphia Children`s Hospital, U.S.A., Kyushu University Hospital, Japan). Based on the findings, a survey was conducted regarding how guardians and children think of signs and graphic elements of medical waiting rooms at E hospital with relatively excessive amount of graphics and at F hospital with relatively small amount of graphics. This study found that designing medical waiting rooms of children`s hospital is getting close to children`s emotion or characteristics. However, the use of distracting characters for children and too many bright colors rather may give fatigue to sick children; therefore, it should be changed. A variety of ways of improving the design of signs and graphic elements at medical waiting rooms should be considered to make it more friendly and comfortable.
Hemoglobin A1c May Be an Inadequate Diagnostic Tool for Diabetes Mellitus in Anemic Subjects

Background: Recently, a hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level of 6.5% has been determined to be a criterion for diabetes mellitus (DM), and it is a widely used marker for the diagnosis of DM. However, HbA1c may be influenced by a number of factors. Anemia is one of the most prevalent diseases with an influence on HbA1c; however, its effect on HbA1c varies based on the variable pathophysiology of anemia. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of anemia on HbA1c levels. Methods: Anemic subjects (n=112) and age- and sex-matched controls (n=217) who were drug naive and suspected of having DM were enrolled. The subjects underwent an oral glucose tolerance test and HbA1c simultaneously. We compared mean HbA1c and its sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing DM between each subgroup. Results: Clinical characteristics were found to be similar between each subgroup. Also, when glucose levels were within the normal range, the difference in mean HbA1c was not significant (P=0.580). However, when plasma glucose levels were above the diagnostic cutoff for prediabetes and DM, the mean HbA1c of the anemic subgroup was modestly higher than in the nonanemic group. The specificity of HbA1c for diagnosis of DM was significantly lower in the anemic subgroup (P<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that the diagnostic significance of HbA1c might be limited in anemic patients.

Micropatterns of streptavidin and human epidermal carcinoma A431 cells were successfully imaged, as received and without any labeling, using cluster Au3 + ion beam-based time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) together with a principal component analysis (PCA). Three different analysis ion beams (Ga+, Au+ and Au3 +) were compared to obtain label-free TOF-SIMS chemical images of micropatterns of streptavidin, which were subsequently used for generating cell patterns. The image of the total positive ions obtained by the Au3 + primary ion beam corresponded to the actual image of micropatterns of streptavidin, whereas the total positive-ion images by Ga+ or Au+ primary ion beams did not. A PCA of the TOF-SIMS spectra was initially performed to identify characteristic secondary ions of streptavidin. Chemical images of each characteristic ion were reconstructed from the raw data and used in the second PCA run, which resulted in a contrasted – and corrected – image of the micropatterns of streptavidin by the Ga+ and Au+ ion beams. The findings herein suggest that using cluster-ion analysis beams and multivariate data analysis for TOF-SIMS chemical imaging would be an effectual method for producing label-free chemical images of micropatterns of biomolecules, including proteins and cells.
Xenopus laevis 의 초기발생에 나타나는 myc protooncogene 과 max 의 발현과 작용

Comparative studies on protooncogene, c-myc and its heterodimeric partner, max, were carried out using a whole mount in situ hybridization method in Xenopus embryos. Like the expression of Xenopus c-myc, maternal Xmax mRNA was localized in animal hemisphere during early stages (oocyte to midblastula stage), and the expression of both zygotic genes was detected specifically in neuroectoderm and several developing tissues and organs such as optic placodes, CNS, somites, etc. These identical spatio-temporal expression patterns strongly suggest that Xmax and Xmyc gene products interact each other in vivo. Overexpression of Xc-myc gene by microinjection of synthetic RNA resulted in lethality at neurula stage. From the results we suggest that myc/max heterodimers play an important role in early developmental stages especially, after gastrulation when the embryonic induction is initiated.

Appropriate surface designs and precise characterizations of nanoparticles (NPs) are important for biomedical applications of nanomaterials. We report a facile synthetic approach to the preparation of Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> NPs with different surface charges through exchange with polymeric ligands. An accurate analysis method for characterization of the surface-modified Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> NPs using a combination of the ToF-SIMS and FT-IR techniques is demonstrated. A comparison of the spatial distribution of the ligand and core particles with ToF-SIMS and FT-IR verified the successful modification and purification. In addition, the surface was shown to play an important role in interactions with live cells in terms of cytotoxicity, cellular uptake, and even gene transfection.
