        Elementary English Teacher Graduate Students' Learning and Reflection in Asynchronous Online Sociolinguistics

        This research aims to investigate the learning experiences of five female elementary school teachers in an online graduate course conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. They specialized in elementary English education and were currently facing challenges due to pandemic-related preventive measures while conducting both face-to-face and virtual classes. The data for this study were collected through surveys and diverse reflective journals written while learning from the 'Sociolinguistics' textbook, covering half of the course topics. Upon analyzing the results, it became evident that teachers experienced enjoyable exploratory learning, often not encountered in regular graduate school classes, through newly proposed online learning and reflective activities. Teachers successfully undertook self-directed learning by engaging with various aspects of the sociolinguistics textbook in English through different methods. They provided meaningful points for consideration or review in the context of elementary English education in Korea, encompassing elementary English education programs, textbooks, and aspects of English classrooms. These positive and productive learning experiences indicate that even in emergencies, asynchronous online lectures and activities can serve as a stable form of self-directed learning in teaching and learning. Based on these results, the study highlights the pedagogical implications of textbook learning and reflective activities in online graduate courses, offering suggestions for future research

        Pre-service Teachers’ Perspectives on the Second-Round English Assessment in the Elementary Teacher Recruitment Exam

        This study explores the perspectives of seven fourth-year pre-service teachers enrolled at A University of Education in Korea, focusing on their perceptions of English proficiency level and experiences in preparing for the second round of the Elementary Teacher Recruitment Examination (ETRE). Using a comprehensive approach, this research gathered written interview data to explore participants’ attitudes toward English, insights into elementary English education, and reflections on their test preparation experiences. Participants demonstrated a nuanced blend of global awareness regarding the significance of English and a certain hesitancy in defining their roles. Despite recognizing the examination’s importance in contributing to education, participants emphasized a lack of information related to the tests. The study uncovered collaborative group studies as the predominant method for preparing for the second round of English examinations, fostering mutual growth among peers. A noteworthy outcome of the research is the participants’ expressed desire for university curricula and specialized programs to align more closely with the dynamic trends and conditions of the ETRE. This suggests implications for educational practices, urging adjustments in curricular offerings to enhance pre-service teacher preparation. The findings also propose avenues for future research, advocating for a more in-depth exploration of the intricate interplay between English proficiency, test preparation strategies, and the evolving landscape of teacher recruitment examination.

        Investigation on the wall function implementation for the prediction of ship resistance

        A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, dubbed SNUFOAM, was developed to predict the performance of ship resistance using a CFD tool kit with open source libraries. SNUFOAM is based on a pressure-based cellcentered finite volume method and includes a turbulence model with wall functions. The mesh sensitivity, such as the skewness and aspect ratio, was evaluated for the convergence. Two wall functions were tested to solve the turbulent flow around a ship, and the one without the assumption of the equilibrium state between turbulent production and dissipation in the log law layer was selected. The turbulent flow around a ship simulated using SNUFOAM was compared to that by a commercial CFD code, FLUENT. SNUFOAM showed the nearly same results as FLUENT and proved to be an alternative to commercial CFD codes for the prediction of ship resistance performance.

        코로나19 시대의 비대면 온라인 교육에 대한 초등영어교사들의 목소리

        본 연구의 목적은 코로나19 대유행 상황의 비대면 온라인 교육에 대하여 초등영어교사들의 인식 조사를 통하여 장기적 감염병 시대의 교육적 시사점을 얻고자 하는데 있었다. 자료는 2020년 7월에 5명의 교사들을 대상으로 실시하였던 설문과 서면 인터뷰를 통하여 수집되었다. 비대면 온라인 교육 경험에 관하여 실무적, 행정적, 정서적 측면에서 교사들의 인식과 평가를 질문하였다. 설문 및 인터뷰 응답을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교사들은 비상 시기의 학사 일정의 불확실성으로 인한 고충을 느꼈으며 갑자기 준비하게 된 온라인 수업에서 교수 콘텐츠 준비뿐만 아니라 기술적 상황에서 어려움을 겪었다. 둘째, 비대면 수업으로 인하여 학생들의 학업 과정과 태도를 지도하는데 한계가 있어서 학력 양극화가 심해질 것에 대한 우려가 있었다. 셋째, 코로나19의 위급한 시국으로 인한 면역 활동과 학생들의 건강 체크 등 추가된 업무로 인하여 정상적인 교육 활동에 애로가 더 커졌다. 끝으로, 온라인 교육 실시로 인한 교사들의 사생활 보호가 향후 해결되어야 할 새로운 이슈로 떠올랐다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 비상 시기의 학사 운영, 비대면 수업을 위한 온라인 수업 대비 연수, 온라인 상 교사들의 사생활 보호, 과다한 교사 업무 보조 지원 등의 측면에서 교육 관계자 및 전문가들의 대응을 위한 시사점을 제공하였으며 아울러 추후 연구의 방향에 대하여 제언을 하였다. The purpose of this study was to obtain educational implications in the era of long-term infectious diseases through a survey of primary English teachers on non-face-to-face online education in the COVID-19 pandemic. The data were collected through surveys and interviews of five teachers conducted in July 2020. Their perceptions and evaluations were questioned in terms of practical, administrative and emotional aspects regarding non-face-to-face online educational experience. The results of their analysis of their responses are as follows: First, teachers felt hardships due to uncertainties in their academic schedules during the emergency period and suffered from technical situations as well as preparing teaching content in online classes that suddenly came to be prepared. Second, there were concerns that the non-face-to-face classes would lead to more polarization of academic background due to limitations in guiding students' academic processes and attitudes, and they complained of difficulties in protecting their privacy due to online classes online. Third, due to the added work such as immunization activities caused by the critical situation of COVID-19 pandemic and the health check of students, the difficulties in normal educational activities have increased. Last, the privacy of teachers due to the implementation of online education has emerged as a new issue to be resolved in the future. Based on these results, implications were provided for education officials and experts in terms of academic management, training for non-face-to-face online classes, providing sufficient support for teachers' overloaded work during emergency periods, and also some suggestions were made on the direction of further research.

        미디어의 디지털화로 인한 이용자 이용 행태의 변화가 가져온 또 다른 경쟁 관계에 대한 연구: 정보 검색 플랫폼으로서의 네이버(Naver)와 구글(Google), 유튜브(Youtube) 적소분석을 중심으로

        In order to analyze the new competitive structure induced by digitalization of media, we analyzed the competitive relationship between Naver and Google, which are traditional information search platforms, and the newly emerged YouTube. Based on the literature research, five factors for user gratifications of the information search platform were ex- tracted, and based on these factors, a niche analysis was conducted on the competitive relationship between the three platforms. In addition, by measuring the relative im- portance between gratification factors through the AHP, and assigning weights, we tried to find out more substantial competition. As a result of the analysis, Naver showed high competitiveness in terms of 'information' and 'convenience of use', YouTube had a competitive advantage over other platforms in terms of 'interaction with users' and 'playfulness', and Google It showed the lowest competitiveness in all dimensions. The gratification factors showing the highest relative importance were 'information' and 'convenience of use'. As a result of measuring the weighted overall competitiveness, Naver showed the highest competitiveness as an information search platform, followed by YouTube and Google. This study is meaningful in that it established the another com- petitive relationship created by users giving new functions to the media due to the digi- talization of media. In addition, a more practical competitive relationship analysis was attempted by applying the relative importance between gratification factors as weights.

      • 양극 활물질 크랙 현상을 반영한 고신뢰성 수명 예측 모델 개발

        리튬이온전지는 높은 에너지 밀도와 출력 특성을 바탕으로 에너지저장장치(Energy Storage Systems; ESSs)에 주 전원으로 사용되고 있다. 하지만, 소형디바이스와 달리ESS 내 리튬이온전지의 경우 장기간에 걸쳐 복잡한 전력 패턴을 경험하기 때문에 정확한 교환시기를 결정하는 것은 한계가 있다. 즉, 가상의 전지 모델을 구축하고, 이를 활용하여 다양한 전력 운영 패턴하에서 수명을 예측하는 연구는 필수적이다. 그러나, 기 보고된 SEI(Solid Electrolyte Interphase) 열화 수명 예측 모델은 다양한 전력 운영 패턴을 경험한 ESS용 리튬이차전지의 수명을 정확하게 예측할 수 없었다. 이를 타개하기 위해, 본 연구그룹은 양극 활물질에서 발생하는 크랙 열화 현상을 수식화하고, 이를 반영하여 기존의 수명 예측 모델을 고도화하였다. 본 개발 모델을 활용하여 실 ESS 운영 패턴을 경험한 18650 리튬이온 전지의 수명을 예측하였으며, 예측 결과는 실제 실험 결과와 낮은 오차율을 보였다.
