Vol.2010 No.-

Cases of the damage of the heavy metal contamination have been reported by air from environmental pollution facilities like refinery, steelworks, land fill, industrial estate. Thus the study need to take a measures because the damage is considered to increase pollutants. This study was performed to figure out the pollution possibility in the mud flat and agricultural land of the northwest region of Namhae-gun concerning the effects by dust and smoke of Yeocheon Industrial Complex and Gwangyang Steel Works. The three areas(Seolcheon, Gohyeon, Seo) expected to exert direct pollution influence and another three areas(Leedong, Nam, Mijo) expected to exert relatively small pollution influence(total six areas) were investigated. As a result, the total research areas were evaluated insignificant on the contaminated effect caused by the air pollutantsat at the industrial facilities located in Yeocheon Industrial Complex and Gwangyang Steel Works during the tasks investigating the target areas.

이동석 ; 박성은 김천대학교 1992 김천대학교 논문집 Vol.13 No.-

A number of pollutants are emitted into atmosphere due to increase of fuel use and transportation Therefore the serious pollution of ambient air extends to be warned for lung cancer to human being. The total suspended particulates were differentially sampled by the different particle size group The results are as follows: 1. The annual average concentration of total suspended particulates was 201.77 ug/m”, the highest one was Apr. the Lowest one was Sep. 2. The ratio of the fine particle size to the coarse particle was 1.35 and the shape of the normalized mass distribution was bimodal which showed high peak at 2 size group : 4.2-10 a 0.384x 3. The average concentration of extractable organic matter was 8. 12 ugh? The ratio of the fine particle to the coarse particle was 1.96 and the seasonal variation was not found in the coarse particulate. 4. The protion of each organic fraction was as follows ; neutral fraction ofcoarse 77.70%, fine 84.28%, acidic fraction of coarse 13.65%, fine 12. 17% and basic fraction of coarse 8.65%, fine 3.55%.

        권우택,유영식,최한영 서울보건대학 1995 서울보건대학 부설 한국보건과학연구소 논문집 Vol.1 No.1

Sungnam city, as a major satellite town, is located in the southeast of Seoul. Atmospheric conditions are so stable that air pollutants from various emissions are tend to resist change because Sungnam city is located in the Namhansansung valley. The industrial distribution of Sungnam city are composed of various manufactories such as foods, fibers, chemicals, machinery and electronics, etc. The heavy metal concentrations and size distribution are the most important parameters influencing among the way in which respirable suspended particulate matter interact with the human respiratory system. Respirable suspended particulate matter was collected on glass fiber filters from April 1993 to February 1994 according to particle size using Andersen sampler during 10 days per month at Sungnam city. 6 heavy metals, Fe, Zn, Ph, Mn, Cu and Cd, were analyzed by particle size with atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results could be summerized as follows: 1. The annual arithmetic mean concentration of total suspended particulates was 116.3㎍/㎥, seasonal variation was the highest in spring season096.5,ug/m') and the lowest in summer season(72.9 ㎍/㎥) 2. The ratio of airborne particulate concentrations respirable to nonrespirable(Res/NonRes) of annual arithmetic mean value was 5.8 : 1, seasonal variation was highest in the spring season(6.3 : 1) and lowest in the summer season(4.6 : 1). 3. During the spring season the shape of the size distribution was trimodal which showed peaks at 3 size groups, which were below of 0.43㎛, 3.3-4.7㎛, and above of 11.0㎛, respectively. 4. Respirable suspended particulate matter concentrations of Zn, Ph, Cu and Cd were the highest in below of 0.43㎛ as follows; 0.517㎛/㎥, 0.411㎛/㎥, 0.062㎛/㎥ and 0.0310㎛/㎥', respectively, Fe and Mn were the highest in the particle size range of 4.7-7.0㎛ as follows; 2.504㎛/㎥ and 0.095㎛/㎥, respectively. 5. The Ph, Cd, Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn concentrations of annual arithmetic mean value respirable to non- respirable(Res/Non- Res) were 33.65, 19.27, 17.74, 10.54, 3.20 and 5.20, respectively.

Sand dust is a source of particulate matter (PM) in Korea. Recently, an attention has been focused on the health effects of PM and fine PM. Here we examine the possible mechanisms of PM disposition and review the literature on the health effects of PM. PM can enter and accumulate in the respiratory tract via impaction, gravitational settling, diffusion, and electrostatic attractions. PM may cause oxidative stress, inflammation, direct penetration, and increased blood viscosity. This literature review revealed that PM exposure is associated with several health risks, such as mortality and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, PM exposure may be linked to lung cancer. Thus, a comprehensive approach is needed to manage PM and reduce its environmental exposure and related health effects.
