Stenosis of central vein is a common complication arising after percutaneous subclavian vein catheter insertion performed for temporary vascular access in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. There are several treatment methods for the condition like percutaneous angioplasty(PTA), stent insertion, and surgery, but recent trend is toward PTA and stents. Among the patients diagnosed with chronic renal failure from March 1993 to May 2002 and undergoing hemodialysis through AV fistula, the 14 Patients in whom central vein stenosis arose were selected for the study. A total of 28 percutaneous interventions(5 PTA and 23 stent placement) were performed, and restenosis rate and the time taken till the restenosis in de novo lesions and instant lesions were compared. All 28 cases were operated successfully. The 14 cases that received both anigioplasty and stent placement initially. (de novo lesion : 14 cases), Among the 10 cases with de novo lesion that followed up more than 1 year, 3 cases are currently undergoing hemodialysis without restenosis, and the remaining 7 cases have recurred stenosis with the mean time to restenosis of 10.9 months. In the 7 cases in whom stenosis recurred, 11 interventions were done(instent lesion: 11 cases). 4 of these were using only ballon angioplasty with 100% restenosis rate and the mean time of 3 months until restenosis. The remaining 7 cases were using both balloon angioplasty and stent placement, also with 100% restenosis rate but with the mean time of 12 months until restenosis, which was later than the group receiving only balloon angioplasty. In treating the patients with central vein stenosis, stent placement seems to be more advantageous over PTA in terms of restenosis rate and the mean duration of patency. In the case of instent lesion, inserting the stent for the second time after stenosis recurred lengthened the duration of patency compared to performing balloon angioplasty alone.

관상동맥조영술중 비이온성 조영제 Iodixanol (Visipaque®)에 의해 발생한 아나필락시양 반응 1예

흉통을 주소로 내원한 45세 남자에서 관상동맥조영술 중 비이온성 조영제에 의하여 아나필락시양 반응이 발생한 증례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. Radiocontrast agent infusion is the most common cause of non-IgE mediated anaphylactoid reaction in the modern medical procedures. The newer lower-osmolar nonionic contrast agents cause significantly lower adverse reactions than the high-osmolar ones. However, anaphylactoid reaction to nonionic contrast agent can cause life-threatening events and even death has been rarely reported. Iodixanol (Visipaque®) is a nonionic, dimeric contrast agent, which is currently used in cardiac catheterization. Here we report a case of anaphylactoid reaction to Iodixanol, a nonionic radiocontrast agent, during cardiac catheterization. A 45-year-old male patient underwent cardiac catheterization for evaluation of substernal pain during exercise. Five minutes after this contrast injection to the left coronary artery, he complained itching and dizziness. Subsequently, generalized urticaria, cyanosis and hypotension were developed. His coronary angiogram showed normal findings. He was treated with intravenous fluids, intravenous diphenhydramine, sucutaneous epinephrine and sympathomimetics and one hour later he recovered. This case suggests that anaphylactoid reaction to a radiocontrast media, iodixanol, should be considered in the list of differential diagnoses for cardiopulmonary arrest during cardiac catheterization.

한국 일부지역의 이주근로자의 근로조건과 산업재해실태 조사

This study was conducted to evaluate and to recognize the status and the problems of working conditions, and industrial accidents for migrant workers in a group of 342 who lives in Ansan area, Kyunggi province. By the questionnaire written by 5 languages(English, Bangladesh, Indonesian, Chinese and Korean), the informations of socio-demographic factors, occupational conditions of engaged company and general & occupational health status were obtained from June, 1st to July 30th, 1998. We used the ANOVA to examine differences of working hours, days and average monthly wages between overseas industrial trainee and illegal migrant workers, and by using logistic regression, odds ratio of general risk factors for industrial accidents in migrant workers were calculated. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The major distribution of nationals were from Philippine, Indonesia, Bangladesh and China(92.1%), and the most of subjects were man(78.9%) and over high school graduate(81.9%). 2. Most migrant workers worked at small scale companies under 50 employees, and engaged in dye·textile·clothing·leather industry. The average working hours were 59.9 hours per week in overseas industrial trainee, 64.9 hours in illegal migrant worker respectively. 3. Trainees have transferred to another company for 1.89 times, and workers who have changed qualification from trainee to illegal status were 3.09 time, and illegal workers moved 2.36 times. The major portion of reason to move to another company were low salary and overdue salary. 4. Trainees, workers who have changed position from trainee to illegal status, and illegal workers knows 62.27%, 42.31%, and 20.45% in each about legal documentation for foreign industrial trainees in Korea "Regulations for protecting and managing of foreign industrial trainees in Korea " published on March 1995. Additionally, trainees and illegal workers have experienced medical examination by 52.3% and 18.2% respectively. 5. Industrial accident condition from Jun. 1st, 1997 to Dec. 31th, 1997 were as follows : in case of frequent rate, trainees and illegal workers were 30.04, 23.78 each, and 8.6%, 7.4% for industrial accident rate respectively. 6. The most common causes and types of industrial accident were inappropriate motions of body and abrasion, and body sites most vulnerable to injury were the hands and fingers. The results suggest that working status and industrial accidents of migrant workers are very poor in Korea. Therefore, occupational safety and health policy aimed at migrant workers are needed to protect the migrant workers.

산성강하물의 침착현상에 관한 연구

We get the conclusion of the ionic components of sample and the concentration of metal elements which is collected for acid composition substances using Dry Deposion, Dust Jar method at five points in Pusan. It appears higher ionic concentration from the last of February to the middle of May. It appears higher ionic concentration according to the increasing of collecting period in cation. It is higher ionic concentration according to the passing of the time at all sites in anion. The sum of cation equivalent concentration is higher than the sum of anion equivalent concentration in comparing ionic equivalent concentration. The equivalent concentration of SO₄^(2-), NO^(3-) that is gussed acid density is predominient in anion.

First Record of the Genus Probolus (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Ichneumoninae) from Korea, Based on One New Species and One Newly Recorded Species

An ichneumonine genus, Probolus Wesmael, is first reported from Korea with P.fukuchiyamanus Uchida and P. cyanogaster Jeong. The former is new to Korea and the latter new to science. A key to the two species, and their descriptions and photographs of diagnostic characters are provided.

農村地域의 社會生態的 特性에 관한 硏究

The objectives of this study were to review the concepts of rural and urban society theoretically and to search for the socio-ecological characteristics of the typical rural area, Myon, in terms of regional industrialization. The research areas were 353 Myons in 36 Guns which were sampled by stratified random sampling methed. The major findings of the study were as follows; 1) The average population of Myon, the hinterland, were 5,879 and the average households were 1,554. 2) Most of Myon had the characteristics of rural society which had over 70% of farm population rate. One Myon had 24 villages and each village held 68 households and 256 persons on the average. 3) The average area of Myon was 63.2㎢. However, the high standard deviation insinuated that there were great disparities in area between Myons. 5) The distance from Myon-office to rural center was 17Km on the average. 6) Synthetically, further research should be followed to identify whether the Myon area is suitable for a unit of rural human settlement planning area to demarcate as a self-sufficient human settlement area.

부산지역 산성강우의 특성과 주영향인자 해석에 관한 연구

Acid rain was strongly raised in regional air pollution problems. All of researchs have been focused in plt tendency in a limited area. But, chemical composition data are important because of the control strategy are also necessary to reduce source emission from various air pollution sources. Longtime may be helpful to evaluate acid rain effect to regional area for a long time. We have accumulated acid data from Sep. 1993 to Jan. 2003. In this study, data which was given from Sept., 1993 to 2000 is measured pH and EC, analyzed cations anions by ion chromatography. All of analyzed data were calculated to fit average and standard by SAS package.

To investigate the anatomical characteristics of the compression (CW), opposite (OW) and side woods (SW) in Pinus densiflora the tree-ring widths and tracheid lengths therein were measured and compared. The sample tree was plated at Seoul forest from Uljin in 2004. The tracheid length was mea- sured separately in the earlywood and latewood. The most wide tree-ring width was measured in CW and than SW and OW. The length of tracheids had been gradually increased until 2000 by aging. After that, the lengths became more or less stable. Based on the measurement data, we could conclude that the sample tree formed the mature wood from 2000.

위 전절제술을 받았던 환자에서 아급성 연합성 변성 1예

Subacute combined degeneration is a metabolic disorder of the spinal cord caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. A 72-year old man was admitted with weakness and tingling sensation of the bosh upper extremities. 9 years ago, he was diagnosed as having stomach cancer. So total gastrectomy with splenectomy was done at that time. The complete blood cell counts and morphology revealed megaloblastic anemia. Nerve conduction velocity study(NCV), electoromyography(EMG) and somatosensory evoked potentials(SEP) showed diffuse sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) showed an increased T2-weighted signal, mild decreased T1-weighted signal, and slight contrast enhancement of the posterior columns of the cord in the cervical and upper thoracic spinal region. He was treated with vitamin B12 supplements and improved gradually. If abnormal sensation and muscle weakness was developed after gastrointestinal surgery, subacute combined degeneration should be considered in the differential diagnosis. We describe MRI findings of a typical case of subacute combined degeneration, which was induced by total gastrectomy.
