The Korea Offshore Wind Power (KWOP) cooperation is planning to construct offshore wind energy farms with an overall rated power of 2.5 GW along the southwestern coast by 2019. Hitherto, various structural types of support structures for offshore wind turbines have been being proposed, but these structures have lacked economic analysis studies. Therefore, their economical superiority to existing types has been difficult to guarantee. An offshore structure with economic efficiency will have a minimum amount of mobilizing equipment and short offshore construction period because of the application of rapid installation methods. Thus, the development of a new support structure with economic efficiency is generally considered to be necessary. Accordingly, this paper proposes a newly developed and more economical jacket type for the offshore support structure. This study confirmed its structural safety and performance by conducting a structural analysis and eigenvalue analysis. The manufacturing and installation costs were then estimated. As a result, the new jacket type of offshore support structure proposed in this study significantly reduced the manufacturing and installation costs. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed jacket will contribute to reducing construction expenses for new wind power farms and invigorating wind power farm businesses.
안정 고정된 짧은 대퇴 주대 주변에 발생한 Vancouver 분류 C형 골절의 수술적 치료 후 반복적인 실패 - 증례 보고 -

최근 짧은 대퇴 주대의 관심이 증가하고 있고, 수술 중 혹은 수술 후 다양한 형태의 삽입물 주위 골절이 발생할 수 있다. 66세 여자 환자로 양측 고관절에 짧은 1B형 대퇴 주대를 이용한 인공 고관절 전치환술을 시행하고, 수술 후 2개월에 Vancouver 분류 C형의 삽입물 주위 골절이 발생하였다. 골절에 대하여 관혈적 정복과 내고정을 시행하였으나 동일한 부위에 불유합과 금속판 파절이 반복되어 발생하였다. 저자들의 증례에 대한 수술의 과정에 짧은 1형 대퇴 주대 주변에 발생하는 Vancouver 분류 C형 골절의 치료 후 실패를 일으킬 수 있는 많은 요인들이 포함되어 있어, 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하고자 한다. A short femoral stem (type 1 cementless stem) is being increasingly used to perform total hip arthroplasty; however, various types of intra- or postoperative periprosthetic fractures have been reported in recent times. A 66-year-old woman with a history of bilateral total hip arthroplasties using a type 1B femoral stem was admitted 2 months post-operation for a Vancouver type C periprosthetic fracture. She underwent open reduction and internal fixation; however, we observed recurrent non-union and plate breakage at the same site. In this case report, we discuss the factors associated with treatment failure in patients with a Vancouver type C periprosthetic fracture following type 1 femoral stem implantation.

<P>We fabricated amorphous silicon-indium-zinc-oxide (a-SIZO) thin film transistors (TFTs) by RF sputtering at the low processing temperature of 150 degrees C. Metal capping (MC) structure on TFTs showed enhanced performance. Even at low annealing temperature, the field-effect mobility (mu(FE)) showed 21.4 cm(2)/V s, and V-th shift was only 1.3 V. We attribute the enhancement of mobility to the metal capping layer, which effectively prevents the ambient effect of hydrogen and water vapor.</P>
Isolation of a Calmodulin-binding Transcription Factor from Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Calmodulin (CaM) regulates diverse cellular functions by modulating the activities of a variety of enzymes and proteins. However, direct modulation of transcription factors by CaM has been poorly understood. In this study, we isolated a putative transcription factor by screening a rice cDNA expression library by using CaM:horseradish peroxidase as a probe. This factor, which we have designated OsCBT (Oryza sativa CaM-binding transcription factor), has structural features similar to Arabidopsis AtSRs/AtCAMTAs and encodes a 103-kDa protein because it contains a CG-1 homology DNA-binding domain, three ankyrin repeats, a putative transcriptional activation domain, and five putative CaM-binding motifs. By using a gel overlay assay, gel mobility shift assays, and site-directed mutagenesis, we showed that OsCBT has two different types of functional CaM-binding domains, an IQ motif, and a Ca^(2+)-dependent motif. To determine the DNA binding specificity of OsCBT, we employed a random binding site selection method. This analysis showed that OsCBT preferentially binds to the sequence 5'-TWCG(C/T)GTKKKKTKCG-3' (W and K represent A or C and T or G, respectively). OsCBT was able to bind this sequence and activate β-glucuronidase reporter gene expression driven by a minimal promoter containing tandem repeats of these sequences in Arabidopsis leaf protoplasts. Green fluorescent protein fusions of two putative nuclear localization signals of OsCBT, a bipartite and a SV40 type, were predominantly localized in the nucleus. Most interestingly, the transcriptional activation mediated by OsCBT was inhibited by co-transfection with a CaM gene. Taken together, our results suggest that OsCBT is a transcription activator modulated by CaM.
