IgA Nephropathy in Renal Allografts-Recurrence and Graft Dysfunction

With time after transplantation, the recurrence of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) becomes a relevant cause of graft dysfunction and failure. However, only limited information has been published regarding the related clinical and histological features. In this article, we review studies on recurrent IgAN in the English literature and describe our own clinical experience. The clinical and histological features related to recurrence are still indeterminate, but features associated with graft dysfunction include proteinuria, glomerulosclerosis, mesangial proliferation, glomerular crescents and interstitial fibrosis.
판례 분석을 통한 한의사 의료기기 사용범위에 관한 한의학적 고찰

Objective: The goals of this study were to analyze each of the reasons adopted by the Constitutional Court or the Courts for Decisions determined to permit the use of medical devices by Korean medicine doctors and to look at the medical devices from a Korean medical perspective. Materials and Methods: For this study, several judicial precedent databases were used for searching judicial precedents that handle the usage of medical devices by Korean medicine doctors. Prior studies on similar issues were considered. The Korean medicine textbooks and related research studies were also used in this study. Results: From 2000 to 2018, a large number of lawsuits were filed regarding the legality of Korean medicine doctors using medical devices; approximately 20 final judgments or decisions were made. Among them, only two cases determined that Korean medicine doctors could legally use medical devices. Conclusion: The decisions in both cases could be interpreted as the judgments that Korean medicine doctors were allowed to use a medical device whose use or operating principles were commonly incorporated with Korean medical principles. That was provided that training was sufficient in the use of the medical device, to the extent that it could be used and that such use of the medical device was not feared to pose a health hazard.

Two experiments were conducted in order to explore the effects of pictures and working memory capacity on vocabulary learning of Korean children who learn English as a foreign language (EFL). In Experiment 1, one hundred and five 6th graders were assigned to two groups and were exposed four times to their corresponding experimental materials: (ⅰ) English words + meanings and (ⅱ) English words + meanings + congruent pictures. The results showed that the main effect of picture did not reach statistical significance and that the main effect of working memory capacity was statistically and practically significant (p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.699). No significant interaction between picture and working memory capacity was observed. Experiment 2 replicated Experiment 1 with a different group of learners (eighty-eight 6th graders) and different exposure frequency (eight times). The results indicated significant interaction of picture and working memory capacity, meaning that only learners with high working memory capacity benefitted significantly from pictures with increasing exposure frequency, whereas those with low working memory span did not reap as much benefit. The findings have important bearings on EFL vocabulary pedagogy within the context of intentional vocabulary teaching and learning.

Corrosion currents flow through the seawater due to the different electrochemical potential between a hull and a propeller under the draft line of ship. Additionally, in order to protect the hull and other sensitive anodic parts of the ship from corrosion, the corrosion protection system, called impressed current cathodic protection(ICCP) equipment has been installed in most naval ships. Those currents could be harmful to the electromagnetic silencing of the naval ship because sea mines are triggered by even a feeble field value. In this paper, we described electric and corrosion related magnetic fields by ship's galvanic corrosion and a corrosion protection system, and prediction results of electric and corrosion related magnetic fields at any depth for the model ship.
Peritubular Capillary C4d Deposition in Chronic Allograft Dysfunction

Peritubular capillary (PTC) C4d staining represents a marker for acute humoral rejection, however, the impact of positive staining on chronic allograft dysfunction has received little attention. Ninety-three renal allograft biopsies from 93 patients were selected from a total of 174 renal allograft biopsies, which were obtained 6 months or more after transplantation (median: 89 months). Fresh frozen renal tissue was stained with monoclonal antibody against C4d. Sixteen of 93 biopsies showed C4d staining in PTC. C4d staining was positive in 40% of acute rejection cases (n=15) and 21% of chronic rejection cases (n=24). When the samples were divided according to C4d positivity, the C4d(+) group had a higher proportion of acute rejection than the C4d(-) group. However, no significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of the prevalence of chronic rejection. Degrees of histological injury including tubulitis, interstitial inflammation and interstitial fibrosis were not significantly different between C4d(+) and C4d(-) groups. However, the 2-year graft survival rate after biopsy was lower in the C4d(+) group than in the C4d(-) group(24.8% versus 59.0%, p=0.1255). C4d staining in PTC is associated with late acute rejection, but not with chronic rejection based on conventional morphologic criteria in patients with chronic allograft dysfunction.
크로포트킨의 상호부조 개념의 관점에서 5대 가족과 나는 개다의 가족의 의미 분석

이 논문의 목적은 진화의 역학으로서 사회적 관계를 견인하는 크로포트킨(P.Kropotkin)의 상호부조 개념의 관점에서 5대 가족과 나는 개다를 진단하고 가족의 관계에 대한 두 책의 다른 관점을 검토하는 데 있다. 두 그림책은 모두 가족을 주제로 하면서도 위계적 관계에 있어서 대립적 입장을 취한다. 5대 가족은 남자가 대를 잇는 가부장적 가족과 친밀한 관계를 보여준다. 가부장적 질서는 바로 화목한 가족의 역학이 며 자연의 섭리다. 나는 개다는 개 ‘구슬’의 신체적 심리적 가족의 모습을 보여 준다. 이는 상호수용적인 연결에 주목하여 가족의 의미를 신체적 심리적으로 확장한다. 두 그 림책에서 가족에 대한 관점은 친밀한 관계가 중요하다고 결론짓는 것처럼 보인다. 그러나 상호부조 개념을 그림책 분석에 적용한다면 5대 가족의 가부장적 질서와 위계가 가족의 상호수용적 관계를 제한하거나 억제하는 작동이며, 또한 나는 개다에서 주인 공의 돌봄의 관계적 행위는 심리적 가족의 원인임을 알 수 있다. 결과적으로 두 그림책 은 위계적 질서 관계 대 포괄적인 상호수용 관계라는 가족 역학의 대립적 관점을 보여 준다. 또한 5대 가족처럼 위계적 가족이라 할지라도 그 역학상 공존의 관계를 완전히 부정할 수 없기 때문에 친밀한 관계를 허용하는 모순이 나타난다.
비타민나무 잎 에탄올추출물의 AMPK 활성화를 통한 3T3-L1 지방전구세포의 adipogenesis 억제효과

본 연구는 HRL의 3T3-L1 지방전구세포의 분화과정 중에HRL이 지방의 축적에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. MTT assay 를 이용하여 세포 독성을 측정한 결과 100 ㎍/㎖의 농도에서도세포증식에 영향을 미치지 않는 것을 확인하였고, 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 Oil Red O 염색법을 이용하여 지방세포 분화 억제능을 측정하였다. 그 결과, HRL의 경우 100 ㎍/㎖의 농도에서82.25% 지방 축적 억제능을 나타내었다. 지방생성에 영향을 미치는 유전자 발현량을 측정하기 위해 RT-PCR법과 western blot법을 시행하였다. HRL은 SREBP-1c, PPARγ와 C/EBPα의mRNA 발현을 억제시켰고, 지방생성에 영향을 미치는 효소인FAS의 생성을 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, HRL 처리로AMPKα의 단백질 발현이 증가하였으며, PPARγ의 발현량이 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 이상의 결과들로부터 HRL은 AMPKα 의 활성화를 통한 지방 합성을 억제를 보유하고 있는 바, 향후항비만 기능성 소재로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 생각한다 In the present study, we investigated the effect of 70% EtOH extract from Hippophae Rhamnoides L. leaves (HRL) on the anti-obesity effect in 3T3-L1 cells. The effects of HRL on lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells were examined using Oil Red O staining. In addition, we examined the gene expression levels by using RT-PCR and western blot. The results of this analysis showed that 100 ㎍/㎖ HRL significantly increased the inhibition of lipid accumulation by 82.25%; significantly decreased the mRNA expression of sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins α (C/EBPα), and fatty acid synthase (FAS) in 3T3-L1 cells as well as the stimulated protein expression of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK); and suppressed the expression level of PPARγ. These results suggest that HRL can prevent adipogenesis through activation of AMPKα and inhibition of adipogenesis transcription factors.
