Studying thermoelectric properties of n-type polycrystalline SnSe by halogen doping

Thermoelectric technology allows direct and reversible conversion between heat and electricity. SnSe is a representative thermoelectric material with the high thermoelectric performance in the temperature range of 773- 923 K. The high thermoelectric performance of SnSe mainly originates from its highly anisotropic crystal structure and favorable electronic and phonon band structures. Due to its intrinsic p-type nature, most researches have focused on p-type SnSe and thus the stabilization of n-type carrier at the optimal level is still challenging. In this presentation, we report high performance n-type polycrystalline SnSe system by halogen doping. We optimize electron carrier concentration of n-type SnSe system by controlling doping level, which improves power factors significantly. Simultaneously, thermal conductivities are reduced due to point defect scattering of heat-carrying phonon. As a result, the optimized samples show a high thermoelectric figure of merit of ~1.25 at 800 K.
Thermoelectric properties of p-type Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Sb<sub>1.5</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> - GeTe systems

Thermoelectric effect enables direct conversion between heat and electricity, thereby a promising means of waste heat harvesting technology. Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric materials are the most efficient system operating near room temperature. In this presentation, we investigated the thermoelectric properties of p-type Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Sb<sub>1.5</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> - x% GeTe (x = 0, 1, 3) systems. Introducing GeTe enhances carrier concentration and suppresses lattice thermal conductivity. To optimize carrier concentration and minimize lattice thermal conductivity, ball mill process was applied to these systems. Ball milling reduces carrier concentration to the desirable level and further depresses lattice thermal conductivity, resulting in the increased ZT for 1% GeTe sample and extending high thermoelectric efficiency to the higher temperature range for 3% GeTe sample. Consequently, Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Sb<sub>1.5</sub>Te<sub>3</sub>-1% GeTe exhibits an average ZT ~0.98 from 300 to 475 K and Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Sb<sub>1.5</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> - 3% GeTe shows a maximum ZT ~1.1 at 500 K.

Stump appendicitis is a rare complication after an appendectomy characterized by inflammation of a residual appendix. A 73-year-old man was admitted to our hospital due to right lower quadrant abdominal pain. He underwent an open appendectomy for acute appendicitis about 17month ago. The computed tomography showed the bowel wall edema of cecum and outpouching lesion with suspected fecalith at cecal base. We performed a colonoscopy to differentiate cecal diverticulitis from stump appendicitis. The colonoscopy revealed hyperemic mucosal change and whitish exudate over the appendiceal orifice. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with stump appendicitis. And then he recovered completely after medical treatment instead of surgical treatment. In this case, stump appendicitis was confirmed by colonoscopy and responded to medical treatment without surgery.

Acute thromboembolic occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) is a life-threatening condition with high mortality, and the lack of accurate and readily available diagnostic clues often results in delay in diagnosis and treatment. We describe the case of a 68-year-old man suffering from SMA thromboembolism presenting as acute heart failure.
공립 유치원 방과후 과정 강사의 직무 수행 상의 어려움

The purpose of this study is to examine the job performance difficulties of after-school instructors in a public kindergarten. The subjects in this study were four after-school instructors at a public kindergarten in the city of B. With regards to methodology, in-depth interviews were conducted with them. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, difficulties of the after-school instructors who worked at the public kindergartens were related with their working environments. Instructors seemed to be strongly influenced by the physical working conditions. Second, difficulties of the after-school instructors in the public kindergartens were heavily related with their duties, that is, accountabilities. Third, interpersonal relationships were one of the significant factors that forces them to feel stressful and difficult as well. Fourth, since the after-school instructors in public kindergartens were working under the public education system, they were under the huge influence of the national compensation system. Whether they recognized the pressure of the compensation system or not, it was a definitely crucial factor. Finally, difficulties of the after-school instructors in public kindergartens came from their job instability. Throughout the study, it was revealed that being conscious of the job-related difficulties of after-school instructors is needed for both instructors themselves and educational policy makers. This study can make a contribution to the improvement of relevant educational policy and system, and at the same time, the quality of after-school education itself. 본 연구는 공립 유치원 방과후 과정 강사들의 직무 수행 상의 어려움을 알아보는데 그 목적이 있 다. B 광역시 소재 공립 유치원 방과후 과정 강사 4인을 참여자로 선정하고 심층면담법을 사용하였 다. 연구 결과, 공립 유치원 방과후 과정 강사들은 ‘근무 환경’, ‘담당업무’, ‘인간관계’, ‘보상체계 및 인정, 전문성 신장’, ‘무기 계약과 고용불안’에 많은 영향을 받고 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났 다. 본 연구 결과는 방과후 과정 강사들의 직무 수행상의 어려움을 이해하고, 방과후 과정 강사와 관 련된 정책 및 제도 보완, 나아가 방과후 과정 교육의 질적 제고 및 내실화를 위한 기초 자료로 활용 될 수 있을 것이다

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic cholestatic disease with progressive course. It has a highly disease-specific autoantibody, the anti-mitochondrial antibody (AMA) which was found in 90-95% of patients. Therefore the diagnosis of AMA negative PBC could be delayed and a chance of treatment would be missed. This case is the AMA negative primary biliary cirrhosis which was confirmed by liver biopsy. A 58-year-old female patient was diagnosed as the fatty liver disease without liver biopsy 2 years ago when she was referred for the evaluation of abnormal liver function test. At that time, serologic test of autoimmune hepatitis including AMA was all negative. Two year later, PBC was confirmed by liver biopsy. After prescription of ursodeoxycholic acid, she has been improved in clinical course and liver function test.
