Survey on Geochemical Characteristics of Groundwater Around Carcass Burial Area and Agricultural Area with Livestock Facilities

In this study, chemical characteristics of groundwater around carcass burial areas and those in agricultural andlivestock-farming complex areas in South Korea were monitored. Groundwater samples were collected from166 wells around carcass burial sites and 466 wells around the agricultural areas where carcass burial sites areabsent. The chemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, oxidation reduction potential,NO3-N, NH4-N, and Cl-) in carcass burial areas and agricultural areas were similar. The NO3-N concentrationsexhibited minimal seasonal fluctuations below 30 mg L-1 in most of the wells, even in the wells located closeto the carcass burial sites; and Cl- concentrations also showed similar patterns. The chemical characteristics ofgroundwater monitored in this study indicated that groundwater was widely contaminated by agriculturalactivities and livestock farming, but probably not by leachates derived from nearby carcass burial sites.

다공질규소에서 광발광 (PL)의 온도의존성의 관찰과 해석

In this research, we observed and analyzed the temperature dependence of photoluminescence (PL) from porous silicon. The PL emission spectrum was measured in the temperature range from 50 K to 300 K under 3.11 eV excitation energy. The measurement showed three different peaks, 1.43 eV, 1.72 eV and 1.91 eV whose intensities varied with on the temperature. These results were interpreted based on a competition change between a in the nonradiative recombination probability and the movement carriers between different energy bands corresponding to PL peak energies. 본 연구에서는 다공질규소의 PL 온도의존성을 관찰하고 이를 해석하였다. 다공질규소의 온도를 50 K부터 300 K까지 변화시키면서 3.11 eV의 여기에너지로 광발광 (PL)을 측정한 결과 1.43 eV, 1.72 eV, 1.91 eV의 세 봉우리가 나타났으며, 이들 봉우리 강도는 온도에 따라 그 변화정도는 일정하지 않았다. 이 원인을 온도 변화에 의한 비복사재결합 확률의 변화와 봉우리를 이루는 에너지준위 사이에서의 운반자 이동 효과로 설명하였다.

This paper attempts to examine the popularization of A. S. Byatt’s Possession, the 1990 Booker-Prize winning novel, by following the ‘collecting’ process based on the detective narrative. Possession begins with the two letters which Henry Ash sent to Christabel LaMotte in the Victorian age and which were subsequently discovered by Roland Mitchell, a modern scholar. Along with Maud Baily who works on LaMotte, Roland collects relative materials for finding out the connections between Ash and LaMotte. Given the collection of heritage, James Clifford argues there can exist obsessed collectors and collectors with healthy minds. As healthy collectors, Roland and Maud take the opportunity to develop their self-esteem and form their identity in the process of their collecting. In contrast, English professor Blackcadder and American professor Cropper show an obsessed approach towards collecting English heritage, such as the letters between Ash and LaMotte, which consequently makes all the people who are concerned about their own interests and purposes join the grave robbery of Ash. Here, it is interesting for Byatt to wrap up the accident with a Shakespearean saying, ‘All’s well that ends well,’ after all the conflicts and problems, whether legal or illegal. In addition, Byatt creates an unfinished ending of Possession with “Postscript 1868,” encouraging readers to have more curiosity by letting them think of their own endings about the relationship of Roland and Maud. With this approach, Byatt’s Possession can be read as one of the contemporary commercial literary novels which are associated with potential readership.

중국의 국가성장전략 전환에 따른 대(對)중국 외국인직접투자 유인요인 변화에 관한 연구

This study examines the factors of investment incentives when foreign direct investment leads an important role in economic growth. Regulatory policies in growth strategies implemented in authoritarian governments in developmental state theory and countries with competent bureaucratic regimes could be a factor to attract foreign direct investment. Therefore, this paper demonstrates that China could play a positive role in attracting foreign direct investment based on the assumption that China has a developmental state theory related to a growth strategy. In the early stages of reform, China’s regulations slightly appear in China, yet the regulations tend to be reinforced. Despite the strengthening regulations, the amount of foreign direct investment inflows to China continues to increase. China has protected and grown the domestic industry through regulations. These regulations contributed to economic growth, domestic expansion and improved investment environment. As a result, China’s regulations lead to an increase in foreign direct investment. These results indicate that an authoritarian government based on the developmental state theory and an elite bureaucracy are premised, the regulatory policy could act as an investment attraction factor. 본 연구는 외국인직접투자가 경제성장에 중요한 역할을 하는 상황에서 투자유인 요인을 규명한 연구이다. 발전국가론에서의 권위주의 정부와 유능한 관료체제를 갖춘 국가에서 실시하는 성장전략 속 규제정책은 외국인직접투자를 유인하는 요인으로 작용할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 중국이 발전국가론적인 체제를 갖추고 그와 관련한 성장전략을 시행하고 있다는 전제하에 규제정책이 외국인직접투자 유치에 긍정적인 작용을 하였다고 주장한다. 중국의 규제는 개혁개방 초기에 크게 나타나지 않았지만 개방이 심화됨에 따라 강화되는 경향을보인다. 규제가 강화됨에도 불구하고 중국으로 향하는 외국인직접투자 유입금액은 계속 증가하고 있다. 중국은 규제를 통해 국내산업 보호하고 성장시켰으며 이는 경제성장과 내수확대, 그리고 투자환경 개선으로 이어졌다. 결국 이것은 외국인직접투자의 유입증가로 이어진다. 이는 발전국가체제에 바탕을 둔 권위주의적 정부와 엘리트 관료체제가 전제되었을 때 규제정책이 투자유치 요인으로 작용할 수 있다는 것을 의미한다.

『풀잎은 노래한다』의 모세에 재현된 레싱의 종교관

This paper aims to read Doris Lessing’s religious view represented by Moses in The Grass Is Singing. Moses, who is the killer of his white hostess, Mary, in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), has been examined as a victim of racism or an embodiment of Mary’s suppressed sexual desire. Focused on the Christian meaning of his biblical namesake, this paper attempts to see Moses as a savior who frees Mary from the white community filled with falsehood and hypocrisy. The connection to Christianity in The Grass Is Singing is shown in that Moses is a mission boy and Mary’s husband is called Jonah due to his bad luck and weakness. That Moses makes Mary bleed is also associated with a sacrifice in the Biblical meaning. This paper highlights Lessing’s intention to deliver her religious view using a black native, which is against the current Christianity. With this approach, this paper suggests Lessing’s religious view that religions should embrace both light and dark aspects, unlike the light-biased Christianity. 이 논문에서는 『풀잎은 노래한다』에 재현된 모세를 통해 레싱의 종교적 관점을 살펴보고자 한다. 백인 여주인 메리의 살해범으로 등장하는 모세는 주로 흑백 갈등에 의한 문제와 성적 욕망의 대상으로 해석되어 왔다. 본 논문은 모세의 기독교적 이름에 근거해서 모세가 이집트에서 히브리족을 구출하듯이 모세가 위선에 찬 백인 공동체에서 메리를 해방시키는 구원자로 읽고자 했다. 『풀잎은 노래한다』를 기독교적 관점으로 읽을 수 있는 단서는 모세가 미션스쿨 출신으로 영어를 구사하고, 메리의 무능하고 불운한 남편을 요나로 설정한 것에서 볼 수 있다. 또 레싱은 메리와 모세가 피 흘림을 통해 만나도록 설정하여 기독교에서 희생제물을 통해 죄를 용서받는다는 상징적 의미와 연계시킨다. 특히, 주목할 점은 레싱이 흑인 모세를 통해 제도와 교리만을 강조하는 편향된 기독교의 관점을 비판하고자 한 것이다. 이런 점에서 『풀잎은 노래한다』는 기존 종교와는 다른 빛과 어둠의 양면을 수용하는 레싱의 종교적 관점이 반영된 작품이라 할 수 있다.

Doris Lessing’s The Grass is Singing: Surrender or Resist?

This paper aims to read Doris Lessing’s The Grass is Singing (1950) in light of Erich Neumann’s theory of the Great Mother and the Struggler. According to Neumann, the struggler tries to get out of the mother’s dominance only to fail, and as a result the struggler is destroyed by her. The protagonist, Mary Turner, in The Grass is Singing embodies the struggler and a black servant, Moses, embodies the Great Mother. In a struggler, the fear for the Great Mother is the first sign of ego stability. This fear expresses itself in various forms of flight and resistance. Mary is seen as a struggler who attempts to get out of her poor marriage (flight) and to control Moses with power (resistance), and who is murdered by Moses. In this, Mary seems to be a failure. However, this paper attempts to maintain that, despite some critics’ argument for her failure, the female protagonist resists society and marriage system, not surrenders to them. Therefore, Mary's death can be considered as a means to get to the highest stage of ego development, that is, centroversion.

A study on China Shipbuilding Industry’s National Competitiveness Change

This paper has used literature research method to study China shipbuilding industry’s national competitiveness change. Based on Porter’s Diamond Model, it has analyzed key factors pertaining to China shipbuilding industry such as factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry. Also it has analyzed China government’s supportive strategies and policies’ characteristics on shipbuilding. China is carrying forward a ‘choose and concentrate’ strategy to support excellent shipbuilders and reject insolvent ones. Government’s support played an important role in shipbuilding’s national competitiveness. By proclaiming government’s supportive policy on shipbuilding industry adjustment, China can induce not only competitive relations among rival companies, but also vitalizations among front and rear industries. This will lead to shipbuilding industry’s advance in quality and build a sustainable industrial structure.
