Abstract Background : Due to improvements in Korea's sanitary conditions, antibody rates to the hepatitis A virus is decreasing rapidly and admission due to the disease is increasing, Patients who were admitted for hepatitis A during the last 5 years were selected and yearly differences in admission, clinical picture, medical fees, and differences according to age and gender were analyzed. Methods : Patients who were admitted to the Seoul Soonchunhyang University Hospital during the 5 year period between May of 2003 and April of 2008 and tested positive for IgM anti-HAV were selected and their medical records retrospectively analyzed. Results : 156 subjects [91 male (58%), 65 female (42%) were selected. The average age was 29.2 years (range; 21.4-37), average admission period 12.6 days (range; 12.5-1 7.7) days, and average medical fees 2,295,151 (range; 932,097-3,658,205) KRW(Korean Won), Yearly incidence rates were as follows : 10 for May, 2003 to April, 2004, 14 for May, 2004 to April, 2005, 23 for May, 2005 to April, 2006, 69 for May, 2006 to April, 2007, and 41 for May, 2007 to April, 2008, The maximum value median of AST, ALT, and bilirubin during admission was 989 IU/L, 1999 IU/L, and 5.6 mg/dL each, Each factors were all positively correlated with the patient's age. Conclusions : Recent decrease in antibody positivity of the hepatitis A virus and subsequent surge of acute hepatitis A is a cause of rising socioeconomic costs. A large scale epidemiologic research on whether HAV vaccination should be made mandatory and health insurance applied seems to be needed. Key words : Hepatitis A, Age, Medical fees, Vaccination

웨이브렛 신경회로망을 이용한 비선형 시스템의 안정한 직접 적응 제어

이 논문에서는 웨이브렛 신경회로망을 사용하여 알려지지 않은 비선형 시스템을 안정하게 적응 제어하는 문제를 다룬다. 비선형 시스템의 정확한 제어는 함수를 근사화하는 데 상용된 함수 근사화기의 정확성과 효율성에 의존한다. 이에 기준 함수의 선택이 자유롭고 함수 근사화 능력이 뛰어난 웨이브렛 신경회로망을 비선형 시스템 제어에 사용한다. 초기 웨이브렛 신경회로망 제어기를 설정하는 방법은 먼저 제어기 입력의 시-주파수 특성을 분석해서 웨이브렛 신경회로망 변수인 신축과 이동을 구하고, 다음에 Lyapunov 안정성 이론에 기초한 적응 법칙을 사용하여 연결 강도를 조절하는 것이다. 이 직접 적응 웨이브렛 신경회로망 제어기를 불안정한 비선형 시스템인 역 진자 시스템을 제어하는 데 적용한다. In this paper, we deal with the problem of controlling an unknown nonlinear dynamical system, using wavelet network. Accurate control of the nonlinear systems depends critically on the accuracy and efficiency of the function approximator used to approximate the function. Thus, we use wavelet network which shows high capability of approximating the functions and includes the free-selection of the basis functions for the control of the nonlinear system. The method of constructing an initial adaptive wavelet network controller is that we find the dilation and translation that are wavelet network parameters by analyzing the time-frequency characteristics of the controller's input, and then, the weight is adjusted by the adaptive law based on the Lyapunov stability theory. We apply this direct adaptive wavelet network controller to control the inverted pendulum system which is an unstable system.

Study Design : Two patients who had painful Schmorl's node at thoracic level from acute trauma were adopted and taken operation for its treatment Objectives : To document the effect of operation for the treatment of painful Schmorl's node at thoracic level summary of background data : Schrmorl's nodes are common spinal lesion generally believed to be asymptomatic, but in some cases there were painful symptom by Schmorl's node. This case report is to explain the effect of operative treatment for the painful Schmorl's node. Methods : Two patients were adopted who had traumatic painful Schmorl's node at thoracic level for our case report. They were treated conservative methods at first but it's effect were poor, so they were taken anterior decompression and fusion, and checked back pain symptom. Result : In all two patients, the symptom of back pain by Schmorl's nodes at thoracic level was almost subsided. conclusion : For the treatment of traumatic painful Schmorl's node, most of surgeon says that conservative treatments were treatment of choice, but operative treatments are also benefit to subsidence of back pain by Schmorl's node.

Poe, Lacan, and Feminism : Woman=Symptom=Mother

The phallocentric dimension of Lacan’s psychoanalytic doctrines have come under attack for appearing to valorize the superiority of the masculine subject. Indeed, the attempt to give a favorable account of Lacanian psychoanalysis is without doubt a precarious undertaking that goes directly against the dominant feminist trend. In this paper, however, I will attempt to defend Lacan against the charge of his notorious phallocentrism and investigate the value of his teachings for feminist literary criticism. This study will begin with a brief overview of the relationship between psychoanalysis and feminism. After reviewing the intricate connection between Lacan and feminism, I will explicate and clarify Lacan’s ambiguous anti-feminist aphorisms, using some of Poe’s well-known dying woman stories. In reading Lacan through Poe, the latter’s literary texts will elucidate the complex mechanisms of Lacan’s controversial theses. Likewise, Lacan’s theory will also offer us an incisive psychoanalytic account of how Poe’s heroines are fetishized and excluded as the inferior Other in patriarchal discourse and culture.

Poe's "Thingum Bob" and Its Historical Context

The dominant psychoanalytic tradition in Poe criticism has sought to find out the pathological cause of Poe’s aberrant personality and diseased fantasies, disregarding the specificities of the historical, economic, political, and social context that informs the author’s creative activity. Poe’s 1844 short story, “The Literary Life of Thingum Bob, Esq. Late Editor of the ‘Goosetherumfoodle’ by Himself,” has been analyzed in psychoanalytic terms. Emphasizing Poe’s early life in Richmond and his unhappy relations with John Allan, psychoanalytic critics have focused on uncovering Poe’s hatred for his father and the unconscious Oedipal revenge implicitly acted out in his fictional text. Departing from the traditional psychoanalytic tradition, I will demonstrate in this study that Poe’s satirical piece, “Thingum Bob,” cannot be appropriately understood without reference to its complex socio-historical context. I will situate Poe’s “Thingum Bob” in the context of the mid-nineteenth-century literary conditions including the birth of the professional author, the emergence of publishing as a formidable business, and the literary conflicts between Poe and the influential New England literary cliques. In so doing, I will demonstrate that Poe’s “Thingum Bob” was conditioned not only by the writer’s pure artistic imagination alone, but also by his constant literary relations and struggles with the publishing world in the first decades of the nineteenth-century America.

The Dismembered Body in Poe’s “The Man That Was Used Up”

Poe’s “The Man That Was Used Up” is not a conventional narrative which follows a linear, progressive plot line. Rather, it is based on a series of unrelated short scenes in which the unnamed detective-like narrator tries to penetrate the mystery surrounding the enigmatic protagonist, the so-called Brevet Brigadier General John A. B. C. Smith, and identify the “something remarkable” he senses in the General character. As we can infer from the subtitle, “A Tale of the Late Bugaboo and Kickapoo Campaign,” the critical interpretation of the tale has been largely dominated by the historical readings. However, Poe’s text is also richly psychological in its implication. In this study, I intend to explore the theme of fragmentation in Poe’s tale as an extreme instance of the Lacanian Imaginary body in bits and pieces. In Poe’s oeuvre, the images of fragmentation―disintegrated objects and disintegrating bodies―often constitute metaphors or metonyms for the dissolution of the subject. Poe’s text undermines and problematizes the traditional Cartesian view of the unified, rational human subjectivity through its graphic images of dismemberment. The dismembered body of General Smith in Poe’s “The Man That Was Used Up” can be read as symbolizing the rupture of the Imaginary coherence of the subject, the corps morcele inherent in the deceptive mirror-image.

정신분석과 데이비드 매밋의 『올리에나』

데이비디 매밋은 미국현대극을 대표하는 극작가로서 그동안 『아메리칸 버팔로』, 『글렌개리 글렌 로스』등을 비롯한 수많은 인기작과 문제작들을 발표해왔다. 또한 화려한 환상적인 영상을 내세우는 할리우드의 전반적인 문화양태를 신랄하게 비판하면서도 아이러니컬하게 그는 할리우드의 핵심부에서 비평가들에게 인정받는 일련의 영화각본(『평결』,『호파』, 『말콤 엑스』,『웩 더 독』)을 꾸준히 내놓고 있다. 그리고 여기에 만족하지 않고 한발 더 나아가 그 자신이 직접 감독으로 메가폰을 잡고 지금까지 여덟 편의 영화를 제작했다. 그가 영상화한 작품들은 너무 지적이거나 무거운 심리적 주제를 강조하고 있다는 비판도 받고 있긴 하지만, 전반적으로 볼 때 매밋 영화의 대부분은 잘 짜여진 개성 있는 각본, 간결하면서도 강렬한 리듬의 대사, 그리고 탄탄한 연기력을 지닌 배우들을 전면에 내세워 틀에 박힌 여타의 상투적 할리우드 영화와는 구분되는 독특한 그만의 영상세계를 구축하고 있다. 매밋의 주요 작품경향을 범죄영화로 정의한다면, 그의 1994년도 영화 『올리에나』는 사뭇 다른 주제와 내용을 보여준다고 할 수 있다. 이 영화는 스펙타클의 기준에서 평가하면 상당히 비영화적이며, 또한 진행속도도 다소 느리고 장소의 이동도 거의 없어 마치 무대에서 실연중인 오리지널 연극을 그대로 카메라에 담은 듯한 느낌을 주고 있다. 어떤 의미에서 영상매체가 지니는 무한한 잠재력의 적극적인 개발은 이 영화와 거의 무관한 것처럼 보인다. 하지만 매밋의 영화 『올리에나』는 두 인간 주체 사이에서 일어날 수 있는 오해와 갈등관계를 한정된 공간 속에서 벌어지는 지극히 도발적인 형태의 심리 드라마로 엮어내면서 관객과 평론가들 사이에 강렬한 논쟁의 대상이 되어 왔다. 그동안의 비평적 견해를 볼때, 대부분의 평론가들은 성추행으로 궁지에 몰리게 되는 이 영화의 남자교수를 동정하며 옹호하는 입장을 보였으며, 반면에 그를 파멸로 몰고 가는 여학생을 분노에 찬 이성 잃은 악녀 페미니스트로 묘사하였다. 최근엔 현대 페미니스트들에 대한 불만을 평소에 자주 토로했던 마이클 더글라스가 주연으로 출연한 할리우드 블록버스터인 『위험한 정사』나 『폭로』같은 영화와 매밋의 『올리에나』를 같은 반 페미니즘 계열의 대표적 영화로 구분지어 살펴보는 문화적 연구가 학계에서 설득력을 가지고 인기를 얻고 있다. 본 논문에서 저자는 『올리에나』를 성추행이나 반페미니즘의 시각에서 살펴보기보다는, 이 작품의 주요핵심 구조라 할 수 있는 `스승과 제자` 관계를 라캉의 정신분석학적인 입장에서 재조명하고자 한다. 많은 비평가들이 지적하듯이, 사실 교육(pedagogy)과 정신분석(psychoanalysis)은 많은 유사점을 가지고 있다. 『올리에나』의 남자교수는 정신분석가로, 여학생은 상담치료중인 환자로 비유하여 전체 상황을 하나의 정신분석학적인 알레고리로 해석하면서 그동안 논란이 되어 왔던 여학생의 설명하기 힘든 공격성의 근본동기를 라캉의 전이(transference)란 개념과 이와 관련된 여러 이론들, 즉 아는 주체, 역전이, 치료, 지식 그리고 진리 등을 통하여 자세히 접근해 보고자 한다. 라캉식 관점에서 해석했을 때, 남자교수는 악의 없는 순진한 희생자가 아니라 무능력하며 무책임한 정신분석가이며 무정한 가해자인 것이다.

Poe the Feminist?: The Return of the Rejected in Poe`s Dying Woman Stories

In "The Philosophy of Composition," Poe makes a notorious claim that is central to his artistic creation: "the death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world" This aesthetic principle clearly accounts for why Poe`s young, attractive heroines have little chance of survival in his fictional world. The female characters often die of unknown fatal diseases or experience horrible deaths mutilation, poisoning, strangulation, decapitation, suffocatinmg and premature burial. It is thus not surprising that during the past three decades Poe`s portrayal of women in such tales as "Berenice," "Morella," "Ligeia," "The Fall of the House of Usher," and the Dupin tales has haunted feminist literary critics. Despite the dominant feminist view of Poe as the horrible Gothic victimizer, recent revisionist critics claim that his seemingly negative attitude toward women needs a more careful reconsideration and should not be simply dismissed as misogynist. In this paper, I intend to use the emerging revisionist insights in my Lacanian-infonned reading of Poe`s dying woman stones. I Will recontextualize the unsettling and subversive resurgence of the dead or dying woman in Poe`s "The Fall of the House of Usher," "Morella," "Ligeia," and "The Oval Portrait." in the light of the traumatic return of the Lacanian Real Whether he was the true vanguard of male feminists will long remain a matter of dispute among cCritics, but there can be no question that it is time to revaluate the "Real" Poe, more than a tormented, misogynistic nineteenth-century American writer.
