      • <디자인과 마케팅>융합을 통한 출판사 협동조합 'POOM' 개발 -그래픽 디자인, 제품 디자인, 공간 디자인을 중심으로-

        본 연구는 한국인의 독서 장려와 보다 효율적인 독서문화 전하를 위해 출판협동조합 브랜드 'POOM'을 개발하는 일련의 과정들을 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 대상은 2016년 3-6월 15주간 숙명여대 환경디자인학과 <브랜드스페이스마케팅> 수업에서 진행도니 수업의 결과물로써 4개 팀 중 1개 팀의 작업물을 정리한 것이다. 연구 범위는 4개의 주제 중 물의 'product'로 한정하였다. 연구 결과, '늘 내 품에 지닐 수 있는 책' 이라는 상징 개념으로 '품(POOM)'이라고 브랜드 네이밍하였다. 그래픽 디자인은 심플함과 속도감을 나타내는 레드 컬러로 얇은 책을 형상화한 형태를 로고에 적용, 제품 디장니은 휴대하기 편한 패키지디자인 개발, 공간디자인은 지하철 2,3,9호선으로 선정하고 각 호선의 특성을 기반으로 브랜드 컬러로 하여, 각 호선에 맞는 공간과 경유하는 지역의 특성을 통합적으로 브랜딩 하였다. 끝으로 본 연구는 출판협동조합의 아이덴티티를 개발함에 있어서 디자인과 마케팅을 융합하여 좀 더 체계화된 GI, PI, SI의 통합 브랜드 메뉴얼을 만드는 것에 의의가 있으며, 향후 협동조합의 통합 브랜드 디자인 개발에 있어서 그 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

        High temperature tolerance and thermal-adaptability plasticity of Asian corn borer (Ostrinia furnacalis Guenée) after a single extreme heat wave at the egg stage

        Due to ongoing climate change, short-term extreme heat waves in the summer are expected to be more frequent. Insect eggs are sensitive to thermal stress. This raises the question of whether herbivore insects' thermal adaptability would be changed after a single extreme heat wave at the egg stage. In this study, we examined the developmental performance of Ostrinia furnacalis Guenée at 25 °C, 27 °C, 29 °C or 31 °C after a single extreme heat wave (42 °C) for 0 h (control), 1 h, 2 h, or 3 h at the egg stage. The results showed that O. furnacalis at the egg or larval stage was more sensitive to a single heat wave than it was at the pupae or adult stage. After a single heat wave, O. furnacalis showed a reduced egg-hatching rate or reduced larval survival rate, but the optimum temperature for egg hatching and larval survival was higher than that in the control. The upper temperature threshold and optimum temperature for larval development in the control were higher than that after a single extreme heat wave. Both male and female pupal weight decreased with increasing temperature, and pupal weight decreased faster in females than in males. The Cox proportional hazard model showed that when O. furnacalis developed at 25 °C, the instantaneous death risk of adults with a 3 h heat wave at the egg stage was higher than that of the control, but when O. furnacalis developed at 29 °C and 31 °C, the instantaneous death risk of adults after a heat wave was significantly lower than that of the control. Our study highlights the effect of a single heat wave on O. furnacalis eggs and the subsequent development of survival individuals.

        Background: Fatty liver is a growing health issue in China. However, the research concerning the infi uence of economic development on the prevalence of fatty liver was sparse. This study is to investigate the relation between economic status and the adult prevalence of fatty liver in the mainland of China. Methods: Literature searches on PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were performed to identify eligible studies published before July 10, 2014. Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was chosen to assess the economic status. The correlations were obtained by Pearson coeffi cient. Results: 27 studies, from 22 cities and 2 provinces from 1995 to 2013, were included in this study. In general, the prevalence of fatty liver presented a signifi cant correlation with GDP per capita (r = 0. 459, P = 0. 016). To be specifi c, the prevalence in north China correlated with GDP per capita (r = 0. 879, P = 0. 05) and survey year (r = 0. 909, P = 0. 032). In south China, on the contrary, the prevalence failed to correlate with the two indicators. According to the data from multiple years, the city of Shanghai witnessed an ascending prevalence. In terms of gender, the prevalence of female correlated with GDP per capita (r = 0. 572, P = 0. 004) and survey year (r = 0. 483, P = 0. 020). Meanwhile, there was no correlation between the prevalence of male and GDP per capita (P = 0. 129) or survey year (P = 0. 358). Conclusions: In the mainland of China, higher GDP per capita suggested higher adult prevalence of fatty liver, based on the data in the past 20 years. With the development of economy, public health interventions, thus, are essential to prevent the trend of obesity and alcohol abuse.

      • Capsicum annuum L. cultivar DANGJO Amelorated Type 2 Diabetes Induced by High-fat Diet and Streptozotocin

        In this study, we evaluated the effect of the powder of Capsicum annuum L. cultivar DANGJO (DJP) on ameliorating type 2 diabetes induced by high-fat diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ) in rats. Here, we found that oral administration of DJP significantly decreased the non-fasting blood glucose level as well as fasting blood glucose level in HFD-STZ induced type 2 diabetes rats. Interestingly, the administration of the powder of green hot pepper (GHP) and green sweet pepper (GSP) did not show the effect on the blood glucose level. In addition, DJP administration reduced the level of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), a representative marker of diabetes, and ameliorated the insulin resistance. Quercitrin, one of the major phytochemicals identified in DJP, was administrated at the same amount as that in DJP showed the regulatory effect on blood glucose level, indicating that quercitrin may be the key ingredient in ameliorating type 2 diabetes in DJP. Taken together, DJP can be considered as a potent functional food in preventing type 2 diabetes.

        Challenges in Evaluating Seismic Collapse Risk for RC Buildings

        The development of fragility functions that express the probability of collapse of a building as a function of some ground motion intensity measure is an effective tool to assess seismic vulnerability of structures. However, a number of factors ranging from ground motion selection to modeling decisions can influence the quantification of collapse probability. A methodical investigation was carried out to examine the effects of component modeling and ground motion selection in establishing demand and collapse risk of a typical reinforced concrete frame building. The primary system considered in this study is a modern 6-story RC moment frame building that was designed to current code provisions in a seismically active region. Both concentrated and distributed plasticity beam–column elements were used to model the building frame and several options were considered in constitutive modeling for both options. Incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) were carried out using two suites of ground motions—the first set comprised site-dependent ground motions, while the second set was a compilation of hazard-consistent motions using the conditional scenario spectra approach. Findings from the study highlight the influence of modeling decisions and ground motion selection in the development of seismic collapse fragility functions and the characterization of risk for various demand levels.

        Effect of wind time on the dispersal capacity of Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura (Hymenoptera Trichogrammatidae)

        The efficacy of Trichogramma against pests basically depends on the dispersal capacity of the wasps. A releaserecapture method was used in this study to evaluate the effect of relative wind speed (RWS) during the nighttime and the daytime on the dispersal capacity of postrelease population of Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura. Two repeated measurements were carried out, using sentinel cards with the host eggs and yellow sticky card traps on the third and the sixth day after wasp release. The results showed that: (1) both the number of recaptured wasps and parasitized eggs increased with the RWS in the daytime during the first three days. The number of parasitized eggs also increased with the RWS in the daytime over the latter three days. The distances that encompassed 98% recaptured T. dendrolimi adults (X 98 ) at the first three days was quadratically increased by the RWS of the daytime. (2) The number of wasps recaptured decreased with the distance from the releasing point during the first three days, but it was not influenced by the distance from the releasing point during the latter three days. (3) The average dispersal radius of the wasps during the first three days was shorter than during the latter three days. The present results will be helpful to improve release techniques based on the wind effects at different times.

      • Clinicopathologic and Prognostic Significance of Carboxyl Terminus of Hsp70-interacting Protein in HBV-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Background: Many factors, including molecular ones, were demonstrated to be associated with long-term prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thus far, the expression and clinicopathologic and prognostic significance of the carboxyl terminus of Hsp70-interacting protein (CHIP) in B-type hepatitis virus (HBV)-related HCC remain unknown. Materials and Methods: CHIP expression was detected by immunohistochemical staining of surgical samples from 79 patients with HCC with HBsAg positivity. In addition, correlations with clinicopathologic parameters and patient survival were evaluated. Results: It was found that positive CHIP staining was observed in tumor, but not non-tumor, tissues. High expression of CHIP was significantly related to larger tumor size, with marginally significant associations noted for presence of portal vein invasion and higher serum a-fetoprotein level. In addition, univariate analysis showed that high CHIP expression was a powerful predictor for dismal overall and disease-free survival. However, independent prognostic implications of CHIP were not proven in multivariate Cox regression test. Conclusions: CHIP is overexpressed in HBV-related HCC and is associated with unfavorable biological behavior as well as poor prognosis. However, its prognostic role needs to be further validated.

      • Clinical Significance of Expression and Amplification of the DcR3 Gene in Pancreatic Carcinomas

        This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of expression and amplification of decoy receptor 3 (DcR3) in pancreatic carcinomas (PC). mRNA expression was detected by PQ-PCR, and amplification was determined. DcR3 protein expression was detected by immunohistochemistry and ELISA. Correlations between DcR3 expression and clinical pathological factors were analyzed. The relative amount of DcR3 in PC tissues and non-cancerous tissues showed a statistically significant difference, 21 cases displaying more than two fold DcR3 amplification, while no such amplification was found in normal pancreatic tissues. DcR3 positive cell staining was located in the cytoplasm. The positive rate of DcR3 in PC and non-cancerous tissues showed a significant difference. DcR3 mRNA expression was correlated with clinical staging, size of the tumor, lymph node metastasis and histological staging, while protein expression was correlated with clinical data like tumor size. DcR3 gene amplification only correlated with tumor size. The level of DcR3 in serum of the PC resectable group before operation was $72.2{\pm}10.2$ pg/ml, showing a significant difference compared to gallbladder carcinoma group (GC) or pancreatic benign tumor (PBT) group (P < 0.01). In conclusion, DcR3 amplification is correlated with DcR3 expression in PC tissues, especially those clinical pathological factors which reflect tumor progression. Assessment of DcR3 level in sera of PC patients may be helpful for the early diagnosis and prognostic judgement.
