Synthesis of an intermetallic compound based on Ti_5Si₃ by an explosive compaction of elemental powders was studied. The main experimental variable was the detonation velocity, and it was found that the relative density of the compacted compound increased with the detonation velocity. To enhance the density of the compound further, however, it was deemed necessary to consider variables such as the can, powder and the backup tube. From an X-ray diffraction analysis of the explosion-compacted compound it was confirmed that formation of the Ti_5Si₃ phase was complete. Apart from the needs to further improve the density and crack resistance of the compacted alloy, the present work indicates that the explosion synthesis has a potential to be developed as a consolidation method for Ti_5Si₃ intermetallic compounds.

This writer tries to examine the current situation regarding the sermon criticism of Korean churches and propose a few things to establish the foundation of biblical preaching in Korean churches through this paper. In fact, the word, sermon criticism is being used very rarely not only in the Korean churches but also in the Western churches. And it can not be easily found in the western homiletic world as far as books or papers regarding the sermon criticism are concerned. In the midst of this current situation, Korean churches begin to have a great interest in a sermon criticism.But the sermon criticism based on the wrong theology might be cause for wrong preaching and a great danger to impede wholesome words. On the other hand, the interest regarding the right sermon criticism based on biblical theology will play a far bigger part in making the pulpit as the word of truth. For this purpose, I will take a look at the history of sermon criticism in Korean churches. Then secondly, I would like to analyze the contents of the sermon criticism and evaluate its validity. Finally, I try to make five suggestions in order to make right sermon criticism settled in Korean churches. First, the biblical homiletic theology should be in a triangular position for the right sermon criticism of the pulpit of Korean churches. Second, for the balanced criticism, preachers and their sermon must be studied simultaneously. Third, sublation of criticism with a critic's viewpoint to his heart's content and a hermeneutical critique attitude toward analyzing the sermon with respect of preachers’intention must be provided. Fourth, the same interest not only in the preachers’body of sermon but also in the delivery of sermon must be needed as well. Fifth, a sermon must be comprehended under the live worship circumstance on account of a sermon being dynamic in the background of every service. The word of God through preaching is not an object of a critique but the object of obedience. But preaching can be developed by the creative criticism. I hope that the pulpit experiences the holy change in every sermon in accordance with sermon criticism positioning as a constructive academic field, and with the sermon of Korean churches putting down new roots in the Bible drastically, and permeating into auditors’lives accurately.

Using the Korean Translation of Disney’s Mulan to Learn About Cross-Cultural Awareness

This paper is an attempt to learn about cross-cultural issues using the Korean dubbed and subtitled translation of Disney’s Mulan. The concept of ‘Cultural Re-saturation’ is introduced as a form of domestication chosen as a translational solution when the target culture (TC) audience knows more about the source text (ST) context than the source culture (SC) audience. Mulan is created under distinct circumstances: although based on the Ballad of Mulan, a Chinese cultural legacy, it was scripted and made by the American animation studio, Walt Disney Pictures. The original English dialogue of the film, the dubbed version and the subtitles of the official Korean DVD of Mulan were analyzed to present a model for the study of cross-cultural awareness through translation. The resulting Korean target text (TT) tends to carry a lot more cultural nuances than the original American source text, as the text is adapted to suit an audience more informed of the cultural context. Defining this phenomenon as Cultural Re-saturation, this paper attempts to portray the prevalence of this tactic within the official translations of Mulan and aims to provide a means for gaining an enhanced cross-cultural understanding of the complexity and subtlety of culture and language.

일반화된 신호 압신법에 기반한 향상된 차분전력분석 방법

차분전력공격(Differential Power Analysis, DPA)의 효율성은 수집신호 정렬도를 비롯한 다양한 잡음에 많은 영향을 받는다. 최근에 Ryoo등은 잡음 신호를 극복하여 DPA의 분석성능 향상을 가져오는 효과적인 신호처리기법을 소개했다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 제안된 신호처리기법이 적용되지 않은 경우를 보이고, 이에 대한 해결방안으로 차분파형모델(Differential Trace Model, DTM)을 제안한다. 또한 제안된 DTM이 DPA 분석에 적합한가에 대해 이론적으로 증명하고 실험을 통해 검증한다. Differential Power Analysis is fully affected by various noises including temporal misalignment. Recently, Ryoo et al have introduced an efficient preprocessor method leading to improvements in DPA by removing the noise signals. This paper experimentally proves that the existing preprocessor method is not applied to all processor. To overcome this defect, we propose a Differential Trace Model(DTM). Also, we theoretically prove and experimentally confirm that the proposed DTM suites DPA.

이 논문은 자영업 선택에 대한 동학모형을 제시하고 있다. 이 모형은 노동자들이 임금부문 특수적인 능력은 비교적 잘 파악하고 있는 반면 자영부문 특수적인 능력 즉 기업가적인 능력은 실제로 자영부문에 종사해보기 전에는 잘 모른다는 점을 중심적인 특성으로 포함하고 있다. 이 모형에서 제시된 이론적인 예측은 자영업으로부터의 퇴출률이 나이와 별 관계없이 일정하며 자영업을 중심으로 음의 선택성(negative selectivity)이 작용하고 있다는 등의 경험적인 사실들과 부합된다. This paper formulates a dynamic model of self-employment choice. the model captures the idea that a worker has relatively good knowledge about his/her wage opportunity, while his/her entrepreneurial ability (or income opportunity in self-employment) is not well known before it is tried. A worker updates his/her belief regarding entrepreneurial ability after observing error ridden self-employment earnings and chooses to enter (or stay in) the self-employment sector based on that (updated) belief. This model yields implications that are consistent with empirical regularities : the exit rates from self-em-ployment which are independent of age and a seemingly negative selection into self-employment. The model also can be extended to resolve a seemingly paradoxical finding that average earnings of self-employed workers have declined, while the number of workers in self-employment has increased since the mid 1970s.

TESTING FOR SUNSPOTS IN THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET

It has been shown that the nonfundamental uncertainty called sunspots matters in many areas of the economy. Noting the fact that nationwide capital movement and the speculative demand for foreign currencies are rapidly increasing, this paper conducts empirical tests on the sunspot exchange rate model. The empirical result shows that the sunspot equilibrium exchange rate deviating from Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and interest Rate Parity (IRP) is consistent with the real data. More importantly, the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) over-identification test is shown to support the evidence that more general Euler equations are in favor of our sunspot equilibrium exchange rate model. Constraints in the Use of the Connective and in Korean EFL Students' Writing

The connective and is the most frequently used mode of connection at a local level of idea construction in text. The purpose of the present study is to examine how Korean EFL students use the connective and at the local as well as the global level in their written texts. More precisely, the study focuses attention on functional meanings of and in order to explore cognitive constraints in using it. The study further attempts to contribute to theorizing cognitive constraints in the use of and by Korean speakers of English. The study analyzes the corpus collected from two intermediate English composition classes in a Korean university. The framework adopted for this study is Schiffrin's (1986, 1987) descriptive analysis. The findings include: the students used and at the local level to simply add a coordinating conjunction and also to implicate the temporal or causal relation between clauses. At the global level, and was used to connect a list of events as a collective unit, to separate a conclusion from related ideas, and to signal a new topic.

The Moderating Effect of Media Synchronicity in the Communication Media Use and Knowledge Creation

Social communications using information and communication technologies (ICT) for social interactions have been making a significant impact on task performance in organizations. However, most of the existing studies on ICT (e.g., telephone and email) have only focused on technical improvement of communication efficiencies (e.g., information exchange and storage). In this paper, we claim that ICT may be another alternative source of knowledge creation that enables employees to work, find solutions, and achieve their goals faster and better. We investigate the impact of ICT in terms of both tasks and social aspects with knowledge creation as task performance. Also, we investigate the moderating effect of media synchronicity on these relationships. This study contributes to the understanding of contemporary communications media usage and its performance in organizations. We collected and analyzed survey data of 248 company employees, using PLS. The results indicate that task urgency and social influence directly affect ICT usage, and even knowledge creation. Also the media synchronicity moderates the relationship between the characteristics of a given task and ICT usage and the relationship between ICT usage and knowledge creation. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are also discussed in the paper.

Regulatory crosstalk between the oxidative stress-related transcription factor Nfe2l2/Nrf2 and mitochondria

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Mitochondria play essential roles in cellular bioenergetics, biosynthesis, and apoptosis. During the process of respiration and oxidative phosphorylation, mitochondria utilize oxygen to generate ATP, and at the same time, there is an inevitable generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). As excess ROS create oxidative stress and damage cells, the proper function of the antioxidant defense system is critical for eukaryotic cell survival under aerobic conditions. Nuclear factor, erythroid 2-like 2 (Nfe2l2/Nrf2) is a master transcription factor for regulating basal as well as inducible expression of multiple antioxidant proteins. Nrf2 has been involved in maintaining mitochondrial redox homeostasis by providing reduced forms of glutathione (GSH); the reducing cofactor NADPH; and mitochondrial antioxidant enzymes such as GSH peroxidase 1, superoxide dismutase 2, and peroxiredoxin 3/5. In addition, recent research advances suggest that Nrf2 contributes to mitochondrial regulation through more divergent intermolecular linkages. Nrf2 has been positively associated with mitochondrial biogenesis through the direct upregulation of mitochondrial transcription factors and is involved in the mitochondrial quality control system through mitophagy activation. Moreover, several mitochondrial proteins participate in regulating Nrf2 to form a reciprocal regulatory loop between mitochondria and Nrf2. Additionally, Nrf2 modulation in cancer cells leads to changes in the mitochondrial respiration system and cancer bioenergetics that overall affect cancer metabolism.
