(Background and Purpose) There has been a heightened interest in realistic contents that provide information and experiences through human sensory organs amid the recent commercialization of 5G technology that enables creation of environment for immersive and real-time experiences. For such experiences, auditory experience, as well as visual experience, is important, and most of the studies thus far have focused on the modes of visual-centered interactions. Thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze actual cases of spatial audio interaction in VR contents so as to propose the possibility and courses for novel modes of interaction made by using the spatial sound, shifting away from conventional modes of visual-centered interaction. (Method) Based on literature review and Norman's model of interaction cycle by phase, we derived the behavioral characteristics of the process of interaction with user, experiencing the VR contents, through Spatial Audio in VR contents. (Results) The cases of Spatial Audio interaction showed the following characteristics. First, it was found that the directional type of Spatial Audio was used to indicate the location of the initial emergence of objets into the world from certain incident or to inform the user, experiencing the VR contents, of the position of storytelling. Second, it was found that the distance sense type of Spatial Audio was used as a method for alerting the user to the narrowing distance between the user himself/herself and the objets, or as a method for inducing certain behaviors according to the variation of the location of the audio and the user. Third, the predictability type of Spatial Audio was found to allow the objects to be predicted only with the sound that objets had in the same way as in virtual reality. Fourth, the attention type of Spatial Audio was short and the intensive led the user to avert the gaze of user instantly. Fifth, the communication type of Spatial Audio allowed the user, experiencing the virtual contents, to stare at the character telling the story or to be engaged in realistic conversation. (Conclusions) In VR contents, spatial audio was found to be an important element of suitable interaction design in developing the interactive tools. VR contents interact with participants who are using VR contents through sensory information similar to that of reality, but have limitation to their application of the existing modes of media interaction occurring on flat displays. This researcher hopes that the characteristics of spatial audio interaction, presented through this study, would help create a basis for designing the course for audio UIs in the period ahead and be utilized for auditory experience in VR contents.

<P>The Th2 locus control region (LCR) has been shown to be important in efficient and coordinated cytokine gene regulation during Th2 cell differentiation. However, the molecular mechanism for this is poorly understood. To study the molecular mechanism of the Th2 LCR, we searched for proteins binding to it. We discovered that transcription factor YY1 bound to the LCR and the entire Th2 cytokine locus in a Th2-specific manner. Retroviral overexpression of YY1 induced Th2 cytokine expression. CD4-specific knockdown of YY1 in mice caused marked reduction in Th2 cytokine expression, repressed chromatin remodeling, decreased intrachromosomal interactions, and resistance in an animal model of asthma. YY1 physically associated with GATA-binding protein-3 (GATA3) and is required for GATA3 binding to the locus. YY1 bound to the regulatory elements in the locus before GATA3 binding. Thus, YY1 cooperates with GATA3 and is required for regulation of the Th2 cytokine locus and Th2 cell differentiation.</P>

<P>Summary</P><P>GATA-binding protein-3 (GATA-3) regulates the T helper type 2 (Th2) cytokine locus through induction of chromatin remodelling. However, the molecular mechanism for this is poorly understood. To understand this mechanism better, we screened GATA-3 interacting proteins using affinity purification and mass spectrometry. We found that GATA-3 bound to metastasis-associated protein 2 (MTA-2), a component of the NuRD chromatin remodelling complex. GATA-3 and MTA-2 in turn bound to several regulatory regions of the Th2 cytokine locus and the <I>ifng</I> promoter. Cell transfection assay showed that MTA-2 acted as an antagonist with GATA-3 in the expression of Th2 cytokines, but co-operated with GATA-3 in the repression of the <I>ifng</I> gene expression. These results suggest that GATA-3 interacts with MTA-2 to co-ordinately regulate Th2 cytokine and <I>ifng</I> loci during T helper cell differentiation.</P>
ALPPS in a patient with periductal infiltrating intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Associating Liver Partition and Portal vein ligation for Staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) is a novel method to prevent post-hepatectomy hepatic failure. We present a case of periductal infiltrating intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma undergone ALPPS, that was conducted as intraoperative choice instead of conducting preoperative portal vein embolization (PVE). A 65-year-old male patient was to undergo extended right posterior sectionectomy, but the operation plan was changed to conduct right hepatectomy with/without bile duct resection due to invasion of the right hepatic duct. After deciding to conduct ALPPS, we stopped further perihilar dissection and liver was transected. The right portal vein was ligated and Surgicel was densely packed between the transected hemilivers. There was rapid regeneration of the left liver on computed tomography follow-up, thus the second-stage right hepatectomy was conducted 10 days after the first-stage operation. Bile duct resection (BDR) was not performed due to heavy perihilar adhesion and inflammation, but fortunately tumor-negative bile duct resection margin was achieved after meticulous dissection. This patient recovered uneventfully and discharged nine days after the second-stage right hepatectomy. Thereafter he underwent concurrent chemoradiation therapy. He is doing well so far without evidence of tumor recurrence for 20 months after operation. In conclusion, this case suggests that ALPPS may be applied to an unexpected situation requiring PVE, but ALPPS is not recommend for treatment of perihilar malignancy requiring BDR.
Exploring the Glycolipids on Cancer Cell Surface Using Negative Nano LC/MS

Gangliosides are anionic glycosphingolipids that contain one to several sialic acid residues. They participate in diverse biological processes such as cell-cell recognition, and the modulation of membrane protein function. Nonetheless of the biological importance of gangliosides, there are few studies on gangliosides due to their structural complexity and the lack of sensitive analytical tools. In this study, we have performed detailed profiling of gangliosides present on various cancer cell membrane to differentiate the cancer origins and subtype using negative ion detection mode nano LC/MS combined with membrane enrichment technique. Cell surface gangliosides were extracted from eight cancer cell lines originated from breast, lung, cervical, and lymphatic tumor and then analyzed by nano LC/MS. Extracted gangliosides were assigned based on accurate mass and the structures were further elucidated using tandem MS. GD1, GM1 and GM3 were commonly observed as major gangliosides in all cancer cell lines having various ceramide portion. Hierarchical clustering based on Pearson correlation coefficients were also used to compare and classify each cell line. Cancer origins and molecular subtypes could be distinguished based on distinctive ganglioside profiles. These results demonstrate that significant differences in cancer cell surface gangliosides can be used for potential application toward cancer diagnosis and treatment.
