Which Motivations Influence Consumer Behavior?: Focusing on Second-hand Distribution Platforms

Purpose: The no-contact and economic downturn caused by COVID-19 have further grown the used market. The second-hand trading industry has established itself as a popular consumption culture, leading to exponential growth in the size of the market. This study aims to identify the types of shopping motivation for used products targeting Korean consumers, and to examine the relationship between shopping motivations for second-hand transactions, consumption values, and re-use intentions. Research design, data and methodology: The first study was conducted on 63 used trading platform users and the second study was conducted on 441 used trading platform users to identify the types of consumers' motivation for shopping for used products. Results: As a result of the first study, the shopping motivation types of Korean used product consumers were classified into convenience motivation, economic motivation, hedonistic motivation, information Acquisition motivation, and free time utilization motivation. As a result of the second study, it was found that convenience motivation had the greatest influence on functional values and hedonic motivation had the greatest influence on emotional values, and that functional values had a great influence on platform reuse intentions. Conclusions: This study provides practical implications for the establishment of marketing strategies for used trading platforms and academic implications for research related to used trading.

Elderly people living alone need smart care for independent living. Recent advances in artificial intelligence have allowed for easier interaction by a computer-controlled virtual human. This technology can realize services such as medicine intake guide for the elderly living alone. In this paper, we suggest an intelligent virtual human and present our virtual human toolkit for controlling virtual humans for a senior citizen living alone. To make the virtual human motion, we suggest our authoring toolkit to map gestures, emotions, voices of virtual humans. The toolkit configured to create virtual human interactions allows the response of a suitable virtual human with facial expressions, gestures, and voice.

<P>A new secondary metabolite, actinomadurol (1), was isolated along with the known compound JBIR-65 (2) from a rare actinomycete, Actinomadura strain KC 191. The structure of 1 was established as a rare member of the bacterial C-19 norditerpenoid class by NMR data and ECD calculations. The absolute configuration of 2, which was previously reported without stereochemical analysis, was determined by using the modified Mosher's method and ECD calculations. Actinomadurol (1) exhibited potent antibacterial activity against pathogenic strains, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Kocuria rhizophila, and Proteus hauseri (MIC = 0.39-0.78 mu g/mL), whereas JBIR-65 (2) showed no antibacterial activity.</P>
Different effects of prolonged β-adrenergic stimulation on heart and cerebral artery

<P>The aim of this review was to understand the effects of β-adrenergic stimulation on oxidative stress, structural remodeling, and functional alterations in the heart and cerebral artery. Diverse stimuli activate the sympathetic nervous system, leading to increased levels of catecholamines. Long-term overstimulation of the β-adrenergic receptor (βAR) in response to catecholamines causes cardiovascular diseases, including cardiac hypertrophy, stroke, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. Although catecholamines have identical sites of action in the heart and cerebral artery, the structural and functional modifications differentially activate intracellular signaling cascades. βAR-stimulation can increase oxidative stress in the heart and cerebral artery, but has also been shown to induce different cytoskeletal and functional modifications by modulating various components of the βAR signal transduction pathways. Stimulation of βAR leads to cardiac dysfunction due to an overload of intracellular Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> in cardiomyocytes. However, this stimulation induces vascular dysfunction through disruption of actin cytoskeleton in vascular smooth muscle cells. Many studies have shown that excessive concentrations of catecholamines during stressful conditions can produce coronary spasms or arrhythmias by inducing Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-handling abnormalities and impairing energy production in mitochondria, In this article, we highlight the different fates caused by excessive oxidative stress and disruptions in the cytoskeletal proteome network in the heart and the cerebral artery in responsed to prolonged βAR-stimulation.</P>
Eco-friendly cross-linked polymeric dielectric material based on natural tannic acid

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Until now, development of conventional electronic devices has mainly focused on performance, and e-waste disposal has been neglected. To alleviate e-waste disposal problems, the use of naturally degradable materials as electronic components has been studied. While most research on such materials has focused on the substrate, other components such as dielectric insulators have not been widely studied. Here, we developed a poly-methacrylated tannic acid (PMTA) naturally degradable dielectric material with good electrical breakdown strength (5.4 MV cm<SUP>−1</SUP>), good long-term stability in ambient, and a stable surface. Pentacene thin-film transistors (TFTs) with a PMTA dielectric insulator layer showed reasonable field effect mobility of 0.2 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> at −20 V of gate voltage (V<SUB>g</SUB>). In addition, the pentacene TFTs with a PMTA dielectric insulator layer and a polyvinyl alcohol substrate show a good degradability in natural; the TFTs were fully decomposed within 8 days in phosphate buffered saline (PBS buffer solution). Also, the TFTs with a PMTA dielectric insulator layer were fully decomposed within 19 days in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride solution, similar to seawater, which has a good potential for reduction of e-waste.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> PMTA is prepared as a naturally degradable dielectric material. </LI> <LI> PMTA dielectric has a good electrical properties and stability in ambient conditions. </LI> <LI> OTFT including PMTA shows a good performance and a great natural degradability. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Naturally degradable cross-linked dielectric material for electronic device, poly-methacrylated tannic acid, which was derived from natural tannic acid, was developed.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
