Antioxidant Activities of Functional Beverage Concentrates Containing Herbal Medicine Extracts

This study investigated the antioxidant activity of functional beverage concentrates containing herbal medicine extracts (FBCH) using various antioxidant assays, such as 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, and reducing power assay. The total polyphenolic content of FBCH (81.45 mg/100 g) was higher than Ssanghwa tea (SHT, 37.56 mg/100 g). The antioxidant activities of FBCH showed 52.92% DPPH and 55.18% ABTS radical scavenging activities at 100 mg/mL, respectively. FBCH showed significantly higher antioxidant activities compared to the SHT (DPPH, 23.43%; ABTS, 22.21%; reducing power optical density; 0.23, P<0.05). In addition, intracellular reactive oxygen species generation significantly decreased in a concentration-dependent manner following FBCH treatment. These results suggest that the addition of herbal medicine extract contributes to the improved functionality of beverage concentrates.
Intermediation Effect of Parental Support on the Psychological Emotion of School Dropouts

In this study, we wanted to examine the effects of social stigma on the psychological emotions of out-of-school youths and the mediating effects of parental emotional support in the relationship between these variables. To that end the National Youth Policy Institute dropout Youth Panel Survey of the Experimental (2017) 318 with data. The study method used the AMOS 7.0 program to check the suitability of the structural model and the significance of the direct and indirect effects. Through this study, we will first look at the relationship between social stigma and psychological sentiment of out-of-school youths, social stigma and parental emotional support. Second, we would like to examine how social stigma among out-of-school teens affects psychological sentiment. Third, we would like to examine the mediated effect of parental emotional support in the influence of social stigma on psychological sentiment of out-of-school youths. Based on the results of this study, we would like to support the existing prior studies related to out-of-school youth and further propose practical intervention measures that can be used in counseling and education sites. We would also like to discuss suggestions for further research.
Crystallographic and Magnetic Properties of the CoCr_2S_4-FeCr_2S_4 Series

X선 및 뫼스바우어측정법을 사용하여 혼성결정계열 CoCr_2S_4-FeCr_2S_4를 연구해 본 결과, 결정구조는 임방스피넬구조를 갖고 있으며 격자상수 a_0가 코발트농도가 더불어 일차함수적으로 감소함을 발견하였다. 이 성질체 이동치로 부터 철이온의 전하상태가 공유결합의 정도가 심한 2가 상태임을 알았고 또 큐리온도 이상에서의 전기사중극자 분열의 소멸로부터 철이온이 사면체자리를 차지하고 있음을 알았다. 특기할 점은 온도가 큐리온도 이하로 내려갈때 전기사중극자이동과 비대칭적 선폭증가 현상이 나타나서 온도하강과 더불어 증가하는 현상인데 이는 동적 Jahn-Teller 일그러짐과 이에 수반하는 완화현상의 존재를 암시하는 것이다. 또한 전기사중극자 이동이 코발트 농도증가와 더불어 증가하는데 반하여 초미세자기장은 감소해지는 현상도 발견하였다. The mixed series CoCr_2S_4-FeCr_2S_4 has been studied using x-ray and Mo¨ssbauer techniques. The crystal structure is found to be cubic spinel throughout the series, and the lattice parameter a decreases linearly with increasing cobalt concentration. The isomer shifts indicate that Fe ions are in a highly covalent ferrous state. Absence of quadrupole splitting above the magnetic ordering temperature T_C suggests that iron ions occupy only tetrahedral sites. It is notable that as the temperature decreases below T_C, both quadrupole shift and asymmetrical line-broadening appear and increase with decreasing temperature, suggesting the appearence of a dynamic Jahn-Teller distortion and accompanying relaxation effects. It is also found that the quadrupole shift increases with increasing cobalt concentration whereas the magnetic hyperfine field decreases.

The Neel temperature decreases rapidly with increasing cobalt concentration. suggesting that the superexchange interaction for the Co^2+-S-Cr^3+ link is much weaker than that for the Fe^3+-S-Cr^3+ link.

Melanin is a pigment produced from tyrosine in melanocytes. Although melanin has a protective role against UVB radiationinduced damage, it is also associated with the development of melanoma and darker skin tone. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in melanin synthesis, which regulates the rate-limiting step during conversion of tyrosine into DOPA and dopaquinone. To develop effective RNA interference therapeutics, we designed a melanin siRNA pool by applying multiple prediction programs to reduce human tyrosinase levels. First, 272 siRNAs passed the target accessibility evaluation using the RNAxs program. Then we selected 34 siRNA sequences with ΔG ≥-34.6 kcal/mol, i-Score value ≥65, and siRNA scales score ≤30. siRNAs were designed as 19-bp RNA duplexes with an asymmetric 3’ overhang at the 3’ end of the antisense strand. We tested if these siRNAs effectively reduced tyrosinase gene expression using qRT-PCR and found that 17 siRNA sequences were more effective than commercially available siRNA. Three siRNAs further tested showed an effective visual color change in MNT-1 human cells without cytotoxic effects, indicating these sequences are anti-melanogenic. Our study revealed that human tyrosinase siRNAs could be efficiently designed using multiple prediction algorithms.
MOSSBAUER STUDIES OF Co_XFe_(1-X)Cr_2S_4

The mixed spinel system Co_χFe_(1-χ)Cr_2S4 has been studied using the Mossbauer effect. Spectra have been collected over the temperature range 83-300K. The isomer shifts indicate that the charge states of Fe ions are ferrous in character throughout the series. Absence of quadrupole splitting above the magnetic ordering temperature T_c suggests that iron ions occupy only tetrahedral sites. It is notable taht as the temperature decreases below T_c, both quadrupole shift and asymmmetrical linebroadening appear and increase with decreasing temperature, suggesting the presence of electric field gradient and accompanying relaxation effects.
Weighable Lysimeter Study for Water Balance Estimation of Chinese Cabbage in the Fall Season

In this study, we estimated and compared the water balance and total water requirement for Chinese cabbage cultivation in the fall season using weighable lysimeters. The water balance of input and output were investigated according to by two different upland soils. In Chinese cabbage cultivation, the total input was different in precipitation and irrigation, and total output was different in evapotranspiration and drainage. The estimated total water requirement for Chinese cabbage cultivation in the fall season in 2017 and 2018 were lower as compared to that in normal years (1981 - 2010) because of large amount rainfall around transplanting in 2017 and several rainfall events in 2018. The total water requirements for normal years, 2017, and 2018 were 147.2 mm, 143.6 mm, and 135.5 mm, respectively, compared to the normal years, it decreased by 2% in 2017 and by 8% in 2018. The weighable lysimeter has provided a useful tool for the water balance and water requirement estimation of Chinese cabbage and could be developed for several crops in upland condition based on obtained data.
Factors Affecting Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated Transformation of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer

A protocol for the production of transgenic Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer was established via Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated genetic transformation of direct somatic embryos. A number of conditions related to the co-cultivation were tested with respect to maximizing transformation efficiency. The results showed that pH of the co-cultivation medium (5.7), the bacterial growth phase (optical density; OD600 = 0.8), co-cultivation period (3 days), and acetosyringone concentration (100 μM) had positive effects on transformation. Selected plantlets were cultured on the medium at an elevated hygromycin level(30 mg/l). Integration of the transgenes into the P. ginseng nuclear genome was confirmed by PCR analysis using hpt primers and by Southern hybridization using hpt-specific probe. The transgenic plantlets were obtained after 3-month cultivation and did not show any detectable variation in morphology or growth characteristics compared to wild-type plants.
